Superintendent: 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Will Not Be Shown Again
Moore Spokesman Says High School Students Should See Film
POSTED: 8:59 am CDT October 12, 2004

BEAUMONT, Texas -- The Beaumont school superintendent on Monday assured parents that Michael Moore's film "Fahrenheit 9/11" will not be shown again in district classrooms.

Carrol Thomas said the politically charged film, shown Friday at an alternative school, had no place in the Beaumont school system.

"We don't need to be showing biased viewpoints in BISD," Thomas said in Tuesday editions of the Beaumont Enterprise.

Parent Michael Kurth criticized the decision to show the movie, based on its R rating and political partisanship. His son Matthew, 17, said that he put his head on his desk and tried to sleep through it.

Moore's condemnation of President Bush's actions regarding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon became the first documentary to top the $100 million mark domestically. In the film, Moore examines the Bush administration's alleged financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family.

Michael Ryals, principal of Pathways Learning Center, said he previewed part of the film before he allowed the teacher to show it in class.

Thomas said a substitute teacher showed the movie. He said any discipline related to school employees' actions regarding the film would be a private personnel matter.

A spokesman for Moore said high school students should see the film.

"The results of the upcoming presidential election will certainly have a big impact on America's youth. Many believe that a Bush/Cheney victory could very well mean a reinstatement of the draft, so it is extremely important that voting-age men and women -- including those in high school -- participate in this election," Mark Benoit, a spokesman for Moore, wrote in an e-mail to the newspaper.

...its R rating...

R --"Restricted. Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian": The Rating Board applies this rating to movies the members believe contain a high level of adult content, such as harsh profanity, intense violence, explicit sexual content and extensive drug use. In some states, the minimum age to see an R rated movie unaccompanied is 18.

Showing this to under aged kids without their parents approval? That should be a crime...

Then again, these are the people who want to even take away your consent in the case of your child's having an abortion, so why should we expect them to care about consent on an R rated film?

Of course, this doesn't stand up to the facts. I think it is more likely that Kerry would reinstate the draft (assuming he keeps to his promise of adding two new divisions, and we all know the worth of a Dem. campaign promise).

I think all who saw it should now be required to watch Farenhype 911... to at least TRY to deprogram them.

If the principal admits that he let a teacher show a partisan political film in one of his classrooms shouldn't he be disiplined in some fashion by the parents?

I'd sue him.

That's nice, but the teacher who showed it should be fired.

The only way to truly make amends is for the school to show 'Fahren-hype 9/11' to the same students and teachers who viewed the scumbag's movie.

Is there something wrong with young men considering the fact that they might be called upon to defend their country?

Well Beaumont is my town and this has gotten a lot of people hot. Here is an exerpt from the original report that ran on October 9th.

BEAUMONT -- One local parent is upset that his son viewed the controversial and political film "Fahrenheit 9/11" in English class Friday.

Michael Kurth, a Beaumont business owner, described his reaction as "livid" that his son's class at Pathways Learning Center was shown the R-rated film, directed by Michael Moore, without parental consent.

His son Matthew, 17, said that he put his head on his desk and tried to sleep through it. "It bothered me," he said.

Kurth, 39, a veteran, said he was opposed to the film based on its rating and political partisanship.

"Well Beaumont is my town "

There may be a man from my church running for Congress in a district that includes Beaumont. If Ted Poe is on your ballot he's a good man

Judge Ted Poe's got my vote! that liberal babykiller Lampson has to go, it's going to be a tough race with the lawyers guild and the homo lobby behind Lampson (ò¿ó)

My parents live about 30 minutes from Beaumont and I have a friend that teaches at one of the high schools. I'm not surprised that this would upset people. This is southeast Texas not Massachusetts.

How do you figure that?....... Poe should win in a walk now that the district has been set up for a Republican.... Harris County [349,034] dominates the district with almost a 100,000 more residents than Jefferson County [252,051] (Lampson's home) and Liberty County with [50,535]..... The district as now configured has voted Republican in the last two Statewides by 60 - 40 and 62 - 38. Poe will have to be caught in bed with a boy or a dead girl to lose this, imo.

Everytime I see Michael Moore I imagine him in a couple of scenes from Animal House.

Moore shows up for ROTC in less than military shape. Neidermeyer wallops him and says, "You fat, disgusting slob...you're a (deleted) disgrace!" He then wallops Moore again, ordering him to straighten his cap, tuck in his shirttail, etc.

Then, Neidermeyer says, "What's that on your chest, mister?"

Moore stammers, "It..it's a flag pin, sir!"

"A flag pin??!!! Just what kind of a flag would a, ahem, 'man' like you wear?"

"It..it...it's a French flag, sir!" says a trembling Moore.

"A French flag??!!! You're gonna drop and give me twenty!"

Moore, seeing a pile of horse manure on the ground, says, "But...but..."

Neidermeyer wallops Moore again, knocking him face-first into the manure, and then grinds his face into it.

Hey, I'd love to see this!
