Pennsylvania emergency call system is experiencing periodic disruptions on Friday because of problems with the state’s 911 connection vendor, according to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). The issue was first noticed around 2 p.m. by the state’s Next Generation 911 provider, PEMA director Randy Padfield said at a Friday news conference. “The system continues to have some intermittent connectivity issues at this point in time that they’re still trying to troubleshoot,” Padfield said, although as of recently “it seemed like a majority of the calls were being delivered.” If callers can’t connect to 911, PEMA advises them to bypass...

The building in Kyiv´s Solomianskyi district took a direct hit and collapsed during the deadliest Russian attack on Kyiv this year. Authorities said that 23 of those killed were inside the building. The remaining five died elsewhere in the city. Workers used cranes, excavators and their hands to clear more debris from the site, while sniffer dogs searched for buried victims. The...

In 1970, the State of Florida passed sweeping emergency measures laws which conferred enormous powers to Sheriffs and Municipal officials (Mayors and Chiefs of Police). The law was meant to contain and prevent riots and the widespread breakdown of the rule of law. The officials could declare an emergency under the “imminent threat of violence”, which gave broad discretion. The emergency could only be in effect for 72 hours, after which time the county commission or the city council would be required to approve any extension of the emergency. There were many riots during the Vietnam era, particularly at universities.Part of...

Bangkok -- Search teams in Myanmar recovered more bodies from the ruins of buildings on Friday, a week after a massive earthquake killed more than 3,100 people, as the focus turns toward the urgent humanitarian needs in a country already devastated by a continuing civil war. United Nations humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher, who is also the emergency relief coordinator, will visit the area on Friday in an effort to spur action following the March 28 quake. Ahead of the visit, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the international community to immediately step up funding for quake victims “to match the...

A group of people continued marching and circling around the main gate of Columbia University on Monday afternoon, banging loud drums and chanting, "Long live the intifada." Their actions come shortly after Columbia University professors held what they called an "emergency vigil" in response to the college's agreement to implement a host of policy changes, including overhauling its rules for protests and conducting an immediate review of its Middle Eastern studies department following demands from the Trump administration. The group gathered outside the university's gates on 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, holding signs that read "defend democracy," "defend teaching" and...

President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly declare a national energy emergency to boost American energy production and lower energy prices. Politico wrote that an incoming administration official said that the soon-to-be 47th president will sign a series of executive orders to speed up energy development. “The rationale for this national energy emergency is that high costs of energy are unnecessary. They are by design. It is a cause of policy. We can address that,” the official told reporters ahead of Monday’s inauguration.

One of the most important parts of an emergency action plan is a go bag filled with everything you need in case of an evacuation... Firefighters created a phonetic list, dubbed the "6 P's of Evacuation," to remember everything that should go with you and your emergency kit: People, pets and papers; phone numbers & important documents; Prescriptions, vitamins & eyeglasses; Pictures & irreplaceable memorabilia; Personal computer, hard drive & disks; "Plastic" (credit cards, ATM cards) & cash.

The Biden administration has quietly extended a controversial “emergency declaration” under the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act until December 31, 2029. “Secretary Becerra signed the 12th amendment to the declaration under the PREP Act for COVID-19 Medical Countermeasures. The Secretary issues this amendment pursuant to section 319F–3 of the Public Health Service Act to extend the duration of the Declaration to December 31, 2029, and to republish the Declaration in full,” according to the announcement. The timing? Conveniently, it ensures that Big Pharma and mRNA vaccine makers remain shielded from liability throughout President Trump’s second term and beyond.

The Biden administration’s “climate envoy,” John Kerry, claimed that the United States was “on the brink of needing to declare a climate emergency.” During a forum hosted by the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics last week, when asked what people who care about the climate and are concerned about the future “should be doing,” Kerry stated that people needed to “start focusing” on the arguments that went with President-elect Donald Trump’s transition. Kerry added that there were “seven million people” who were dying each year due to poor air quality.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre affirmed that President Biden plans to serve out a full second term if he wins on Nov. 5 and shrugged off concerns about him handling a hypothetical nuclear attack on the country after 8 p.m. Last week during a private meeting with Democratic governors, Biden, 81, informed them that he’s asked his team to refrain from scheduling events after 8 p.m., the Washington Post reported. The president’s apparent curfew became the source of questioning at Tuesday’s White House press briefing. “He also said he’s sharpest before 8 p.m. So, say that the Pentagon at...
