This week's death toll from fires in Oregon, Washington and California now stands at 18, as at least 100 major fires burn in 11 western states. As flames push closer to the city of Portland, the mayor has declared a state of emergency — and state officials say they're now preparing for a "mass fatality incident." More than half a million people — 12% of the state's population — have fled from their homes in Oregon and mass evacuations are underway across the region. Oregon's governor said Thursday that dozens may be missing in her state. The monstrous fires are...

Both Democrats and Republicans came together this morning to vote on if Governor Ned Lamont's decision on extending the emergency declaration powers to February would be overturned In a vote 6-4, the special committee voted on party lines to allow Gov. Lamont's decision to move forward. The extension, which would be in place until February 2021, means certain COVID-19 measures will remain until changed otherwise by the governor. “The public health emergency is not over. Period. We have a duty to protect the people of this state. Politics cannot interfere with this duty. Wear your mask. Social Distance. Minimize large...

In certain situations you may be able to obtain emergency drinking water from fire hydrants. Should you do so, and is this even legal you may ask? For the most part, opening a fire hydrant on a municipal water line is against the law and should never be attempted. Secondly, if the hydrant is still pressurized, the force of the unregulated water could cause injury or even death. Also, if citizens begin randomly opening fire hydrants, this may result in a loss of pressure when it is needed for actual firefighting.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Gov. JB Pritzker’s emergency rules that aim to enforce mandatory masks and social distancing in businesses across the state are now in effect. The new rules were supposed to be approved and voted on by the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) on Tuesday, Aug. 11. A motion to suspend the rules was introduced by Rep. Steven Reick, R-Woodstock, but failed in a vote of 6 to 5. The failure to suspend the rules meant they officially went into effect. The six votes to suspend were all by Republican members of the committee.

Under a little-known regulation that dates back to the 1930s, the president has legal power over electronic transmissions. The FCC and the DCB were empowered by Section 606 of the 1934 Communications Act, which expressly gave the president full control over electronic transmissions in such circumstances. Section 606(c), in particular, gave the president full control to suspend and commandeer the country's entire electronic regulatory system. "Upon proclamation by the President that there exists war or a threat of war, or a state of public peril or disaster or other national emergency, or in order to preserve the neutrality of the...

The Michigan legislature is suing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for unilaterally extending Michigan’s coronavirus state of emergency, House Speaker Lee Chatfield, R-Levering, and Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clark Lake, announced in a Wednesday, May 6 news conference. The lawsuit is going to the Michigan Court of Claims with hopes for an expedited ruling, Chatfield said. The House and Senate declined to extend the state of emergency last week, but Whitmer later announced it would be extended from April 30 through May 28 – citing a 1945 law allowing her to do so. The 1945 Emergency Powers of Governor Act allows...

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) finds herself at the center of the news cycle amid COVID-19, on account of her far-reaching stay-at-home order. Gov. Whitmer’s order is one of the most strict, and is being criticized as a constitutional overreach. Michigan lawmakers, including Democrats, are evidently frustrated with Gov. Whitmer’s harsh order. Democrat Mike Duggan, Mayor of Detroit, called his state’s system for reporting COVID-19 “not reliable,” as hospital officials also blame the state government for an inefficient system that ultimately leads to longer wait times. Michigan State Rep. Karen Whitsett, a Democrat representing Detroit, alleged that Gov. Whitmer was...

Just days after the media was busy blasting President Donald Trump for not implementing a federal lockdown and instead leaving those decisions up to the states, the media is now busy blasting President Trump for stating that he could end all lockdowns before the states decide to. It’s nice to see the media rally to defend state rights for once, though unfortunately it’s in the context of them being total hypocrites. The states will ultimately decide when to re-open, and most actually do already have at timeline in place that span from April 15th to June 10th. Only six states...

She requested a transfer to a different floor which was denied by management. She responded that due to the...
