CBS has done it again, and this is happening too much under the radar. I mean, some people know about this, and more and more people are learning about it, but I want to add an exclamation point to it. CBS News did a report recently, and I think it was late last week or early this week, this is already Thursday, so it probably was early this week. Dan Rather did it, in fact, quoting sources that there's a secret move to reinstate the draft after the election, that the Bush administration is working on it. And Rather's sources...

WASHINGTON - Rumors of a post-election restoration of the military draft - this time with women as well as men facing a call to arms - have circulated widely on the Internet and among young people. And in the midst of a presidential campaign the draft has popped up again, with Democratic nominee John Kerry raising it as a possibility and the Bush administration countering that there are no such plans. "If George Bush were to be re-elected," Kerry said last week, "given the way he has gone about this war and given his avoidance of responsibility in North Korea...

has the once venerable name in news turned over its studios for partisan political activism? September 29, 2004 Tuesday, September 28, 2004, just 3 weeks after the widely discredited story by 60 Minutes II using forged memos, CBS is back at it again. This time the claims are carefully crafted in such a way that they could easily be considered political propaganda. Goebbles might have been impressed.

Clearly, this is about politics, not soldiers. Congresswoman Diana DeGette kicked up some dirt and found prized national attention with her recent call for a congressional investigation into complaints that soldiers in Fort Carson's 3rd Brigade Combat Team have been threatened with deployment to Iraq unless they re-enlist. "How widespread is this?" DeGette asked at a recent news conference. "How deep does it go into the Pentagon? How far does it go up to the Oval Office?" The Oval Office? Wishful thinking will get you nowhere, congresswoman. The more pertinent question: How much of this is legitimate, and how much...

The trap has been set for tonight’s debate. With the aid of the mainstream media, and an old fiend by the name of Rather at CBS, Democrats think they have President Bush set up perfectly for John Kerry’s sucker punch. The inquisition will be, “ Mr. President, can you assure the parent’s of America here and now that there will not be a military draft in your second term?” Of course, as an honorable Man and responsible Executive, the President can NOT say ‘No’. The Democrat’s key issue will be christened, complete with a positive confirmation from Bush, which will...

“Kerry Youth”: The Indoctrination of America’s Children By Michelle S. Levy, Hofstra Law In the 1930’s, a phenomena overtook Germany. In 1931, the Nazi party won the election in Germany, catapulting Hitler and his party into a position of power. The years that followed included the rise of organizations such as Hitler Youth, aimed at bringing German youth under the wing of the Nazi party. By careful and insidious manipulation of the contemporary media, such as movies, radio, and literature, the German government brainwashed German children into believing that Hitler’s way was the right way, the only way to think. Any other...

CBS News is again under fire for a story which aired Tuesday evening by CBS News Correspondent Richard Schlesinger purporting to compare the views of President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry on the possibility of reinstituting the military draft. "It's no secret, the all-volunteer U.S. military, especially the Army, Marines, and many Reserve units, are stretched thin in Iraq and Afghanistan," CBS News anchor Dan Rather said leading into the segment. "So what about bringing back the draft? A lot of Americans are worried about that. Where do the presidential candidates stand?" The story was presented as part...

Wednesday, September 29, 2004 I'm coo-coo for Cocco puffs! (And so's CBS News!) While drafting (pun recognized but not intended) and following up on my post below about CBS News' scandalous broadcasts intended to create fear among voters over the return of conscription, I stumbled upon an interesting chronologic sequence, prompted by Rathergate.com's reprint of a September 9th letter to the editor from CBS News' star draft-fearful soccer-mom, Ms. Beverly Cocco of Walton Park, PA, to the Northeast Times, which appears to be a Philadelphia News-owned local-events supplement (proudly serving "Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties and the Main Line")....

On the draft. Much has been made lately from a mass email campaign the John Kerry Campaign and CBS about a possible draft, the truth of the matter is that its the Democrats and John Kerry who want the draft, not President Bush and the Republicans as stated by those various sources, here is my proof. John Kerry's website: Many Americans do full time service. John Kerry believes that in these times, we need to bolster these efforts with a nationwide commitment to national service. Whether it is a Summer of Service for our teenagers, helping young people serve their...

Twenty-year-old Jeremy Tor, a junior at the University of Arizona, got the scare of his life recently — an e-mail that told him if George Bush is re-elected, he will reinstate the military draft. "I thought, this is incredible. You know, to suggest that a draft is going to be instituted, harkening back to the days of Vietnam, is a scary, scary thought," he says. Wednesday, Vice President Dick Cheney strongly denied it. "The notion that somebody's peddling out there that there is a secret plan to reinstitute the draft — it's hogwash, not true," Cheney said on the campaign...

Are You Going To Be Drafted? Here we go again. Ever since the First Gulf War (1990), hardly a year goes by where we aren't inundated by rumors of re-instatement of a military draft. This year, of course, is no different, as we are in the middle of a presidential race. Vice presidential candidate John Edwards recently publicly stated that there would be no draft under a Kerry presidency. That alludes, without actually stating it, that a draft is likely if President Bush is reelected. There is an email floating around which specifically states (without any credible evidence) that Bush...

CBS News has tacitly admitted wrongdoing in not identifying that Beverly Cocco, the woman featured in its story about the draft. In the original CBS report, Cocco's membership in an anti-war group, People Against the Draft, was not disclosed. In a CBSNews.com piece based on the TV story, Cocco's membership was not revealed, either. After RatherBiased.com debunked the CBS report and criticized the network for once again featuring a member of a liberal group without revealing her political background, CBS News has since gone back and changed the online version of Richard Schlesinger's story. It now informs readers that Cocco...

Five weeks before the election, Tuesday's CBS Evening News attempted to legitimize baseless Internet rumors that President Bush secretly plans to revive the draft. Reporter Richard Schlesinger focused his piece around how one mother "is petrified about a military draft, and she's not alone. Mass e-mails are circulating among worried parents," as if the political spam had any merit. Instead of trying to allay the woman's fears with facts, Schlesinger instead asked: "Would you vote for a Democrat?" She replied: "Absolutely. I would vote for Howdy Doody if I thought it would keep my boys home and safe."

Reinstating the DRAFT -- a Bill After the Elections! Mandatory draft for boys and girls (ages 18-26) starting June 15, 2005, is something that everyone should know about. This literally effects everyone since we all have or know children that will have to go if this bill passes. There is pending legislation in the house and senate (companion bills: S89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin as early as spring, 2005, just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention...

CBS Does It Again Network Uses Phony Documents to Promote Draft Conspiracy September 29, 2004 09:03:12 EDT For months now, left-leaning interest groups have been trying to scare America's young people into believing that the Bush Administration is eager to bring back the draft if President Bush is reelected. For the most part, this story has been spread by word-of-mouth and through the internet--rumors in other words. Up until this month, CBS News has shown no interest in a story that has basically no basis in fact. That changed last week after Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry was asked about...

September 29, 2004 Old dog, old tricks Ratherbiased.com (whose site is down now) and Little Green Footballs detail how CBS News last night used discredited documents to attack President Bush: In a story that was a textbook example of slipshod reporting, CBS reporter Richard Schlesinger used debunked internet hoax emails and an unlabeled interest group member to scare viewers into believing that the U.S. government is poised to resume the draft. At the center of Schlesinger’s piece was a woman named Beverly Cocco, a Philadelphia woman who is 'sick to my stomach' that her two sons might be drafted. In...
