On the draft.

Much has been made lately from a mass email campaign the John Kerry Campaign and CBS about a possible draft, the truth of the matter is that its the Democrats and John Kerry who want the draft, not President Bush and the Republicans as stated by those various sources, here is my proof.

John Kerry's website:

Many Americans do full time service. John Kerry believes that in these times, we need to bolster these efforts with a nationwide commitment to national service. Whether it is a Summer of Service for our teenagers, helping young people serve their country in return for college, or the Older Americans in Service program, John Kerry's plan will call on every American of every age and every background to serve. John Kerry will set a goal of one million Americans a year in national service within the next decade.

From Bloomberg

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry called for 40,000 more U.S. troops in Iraq, saying he would ``modernize our military to match its new missions'' in the war on terror and homeland security.

How will John Kerry accomplish such a thing without reinstating the draft?

From FR:

I have been sending this out as much as possible.

NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO COMMIT FRAUD IN AN ELECTION. THE FOLLOWING LINKS COME FROM THOMAS ( http://thomas.loc.gov/ ) A SERVICE OF THE US LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. The email about the draft being sent out as well as the media reports on it is a complete fraud. First of all, only Congress can reinstate a draft, not the President. Secondly, there are two bills with only Democrats sponsoring and cosponsoring. This is a political DIRTY TRICK!!!!!!!!!

DAN RATHER is more credible. Republicans do not want a draft. DEMOCRATS DO !!! Click on the links and see for yourself . Don't be manipulated. Don't let the slimy media people lie to you! Know the TRUTH! SENATE BILL Sponsor: Sen Hollings, Ernest F. [SC] (introduced 1/7/2003) [DEMOCRAT] Cosponsors (None)

Im a college student and Ive gotten 5 or 6 of these emails. 2 in the last week. Both times I easily debunked this. One of those times I got it as a mole on the Democrats list. Let's just say those people who sent it out both times ate their words, sheepishly apologized for misleading people, and encouraged everyone to not send it around. One of the dems even said, naturally I was skeptical so I looked into but managed to not look at who sponsored/cosponsored it. This whole email is really politics at its lowest.

Excerpt from The Draft : Questions and Answers / People Against the Draft / www.nodraft.info

Will it make any difference if the Democrats win in November? Probably not. John Kerry, a member of the hawkish Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), supports escalating the war in Iraq and calls for enhancing US military presence worldwide. As a former war hero and Vietnam protester, Kerry would be a far more effective advocate for conscription than Bush. Though Kerry has said he would not call for a renewed draft, as President he would be subject to the same military logic as Bush -- he cannot sustain globally aggressive policies without finding the bodies. Kerry calls military service "the highest form of national service." Not coincidentally, a proposal for universal "National Service" is available on his campaign web site. Significantly, the proposal closely resembles a recent DLC blueprint (Magee, From Selective Service to National Service: A Blueprint for Citizenship and Security in the 21st Century, 2003) that antidraft advocates see as a steath plan for staged reintroduction of conscription. Kerry's proposal does not mention a military draft -- yet -- but it appears to makes financial aid for college contingent on two years' national service beginning at the age of 18. Incenting youth to join the armed forces is manifestly the heart of the initiative. Even without a draft as such, Kerry's program represents a massive militarization of young men and women that provides ample opportunities for indoctrination, along with near-coercive incentives to join up.

These people admit that the bills in Congress, HR 163 and S 89, are being sponsored first and foremost by DEMOCRATS. For the full text, go to:

FOX has been running the story with lots of the RIGHT information and an (R) spokesperson stating the facts. They have run the story 4 times already .. showing the shoddy reporting of CBS in not revealing the woman they interviewed is an activist against the draft.

A Hollingsworth spokesperson has made the statement that the senate "bill is collecting dust".

Rush just said that the Senate would require 60 votes and there is no way the dems can get that number of votes for a draft.

Ooooh .. and to top it off .. guess who was Secretary of Defense when the DRAFT WAS STOPPED - - - - RUMSFELD!!

Rangel has been all over the TV this morning trying to backtrack from this .. saying that he only wrote the bill to make people realize that if they have to send their own children for the WAR then suddenly they will not want to support the war. And thus (though they never vote) the dems are expecting these people to suddenly jump up and run to the voting booth in order to save their children from being drafted. What a scam!!

This is a HOAX and a FRAUD. Is this all the democrats can come up with .. hoaxes and fraud ..?? This is what they are willing to do in order to help the democrats get back in power.

Charles Rangle admitted he is trying to stir things up with this bill. It is a dirty trick on the American people by the Dems. Nothing more.

re: Kerry's national service fantasies

Nice idea. We live in a FREE society, however, not a socialist dictatorship. National social service for high school students is a nutty idea. College tuition is way too high, along with the rest of the current cost of living, to coerce people to do "volunteer" work.

We don't need more socialism in America. If people CHOOSE to get involved in their communities, they may do so through their churches or other philanthropric and civic organizations. If they choose to WORK in the private sphere and concentrate on raising healthy families, that is also our constitutional right.

The problem with liberals is that they seem to think CHOICE and PRIVACY only have to do with perversion and killing the unborn. Fortunately, the Founding Fathers and the Framers thought otherwise.
