Hegseth: Pentagon moving ‘quickly’ on nuclear weapons testing

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon is moving “quickly” on President Trump’s directive to restart nuclear weapons testing to ensure the U.S. has the “most capable” nuclear arsenal in the world.

Hegseth said Friday, during his meeting with Association of Southeast Asian Nations Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, that the Department of Defense (DOD) will work with the Department of Energy (DOE) on nuclear testing and added that Trump has been “clear” the U.S. needs to have a “credible nuclear deterrent.”

“That is the baseline of our deterrence, and so having understanding and resuming testing is a pretty responsible, very responsible, way to do that. I think it makes nuclear conflict less likely if you know what you have and make sure it operates properly,” the Defense secretary said. “So it’s the right directive. We’re moving out quickly, and America will ensure that we have the strongest, most capable nuclear arsenal, so that we maintain peace through strength.”

Trump directed the Pentagon Wednesday night to immediately start testing nuclear weapons on an equal basis to Russia and China.

Putin is also thinking about restarting nuclear weapons testing.

His first test, will be on Kiev, with the explanation that, it was a mistake and that the ‘test’ went haywire from the west blocking their guidance systems.

But, in reality, Putin can no longer do any new nuclear testing, since Russia has run out of dough from the economy destruction effected by Ukraine on its oil infrastructure.

(Did I just commandeer this discussion and turned it into another Ukraine v. Russia argument? Hope not.) ;)

There have been posts recently all across the spectrum soeculating on the state of readiness and level of maintenance that Russia has performed since the Soviet breakup. While the technology is not new and well understood, the bombs, once built, and their delivery systems demand some expensive level of frequent upkeep. Have they been receiving it? No one wants to find out “yes” but stories of silos half full of water and questionable electronics are out there. I don’t hear that about our, ever. Thoughts?

From material i have seen the primary delivery systems across the two main countries are sea and air.

The russians land systems, long range, are mostly mobile. Ours are not.

Air delivery-aircraft, is secondary. Meaning after the initial strike, the secondary will be air.

The late reports about the “poseidon” tge Russians developed are not news really. They’ve been working on that for quite a while and just now announced it for effect. They tested that system before...and BTW Glen Beck, you stupid moron, its not a missile you idiot. Its a torpedo.
And its real save for one thing. It WILL NOT, cause a 1500 foot tsunami. At 5 megatons it might cause a 30 to 80 foot tsunami...all radioactive.
In the late 50s, we set off a nuclear device underwater around the Marshall Islands. It created about a 16 foot tsunami. Dont remember the kilotons of that test.

So...do the thinking. They set off a 5 meg device off our east coast and it creates a 30 foot tsunami. How much of the east coast will it cover? How far inland would it go?

The Russians are 10 years ahead in missile and submarine munitions technology.

That is where our investment in defense shoul focus. Submarine, missile, and drone technology. Only surface fleet we should focus is fast attack and highly maneuverable ships.
As for drone capabilities, all future fighter and attack aircraft should be made drones.

True. I’ve heard that Russia’s nuclear missiles and launch sites have not been well-maintained, and that the rockets and silos are rusting away and unusable.

Plus, with a piss-poor economy lately, and with no money to take care of them, chances are that those nuclear weapons are being abandoned and rust buckets. Russia needs every ruble available to continue the fight in Ukraine, even if it’s a losing proposition.

The Russians are 10 years ahead in missile and submarine munitions technology. Nonsense!

Russian boasted about having the best, state-of-the-art tanks, and they've turned out to be easily taken out in Ukraine. Imaging, Ukraine, a third-rate military able to make the Russian tanks seem like mere motorcycles easily turned into scrap metal.

The Russia Air Force was supposed to be one of the best too, but every time they get close to Ukraine, they're easily blasted out of the sky. And the Russian air defense is no longer able to stop Ukraine or any other military. It's gone bust. The S-XXX systems are basically junk.

The hypersonic missiles which Russia claimed to be unstoppable, have turned out to be just hype and not capable of causing any real big damage on the ground. The hypersonic speed was also pure hype, since, even if it flew at very high speed in the thin atmosphere, the descending speed would be just at the speed of sound or less, meaning, easily blasted out of the air.

Russia is full of propaganda, and even its entire military has been proven to be a paper-tiger.

It is estimated that at the current level, Russia is no longer a military super-power (not that it ever was), and that even Ukraine has a better military than Russia. The consequences of the invasion of Ukraine has brought Russia down to size, bigly.

The World is overdue for a Global War.

The globe is in a constant state of war, with regional wars just about everywhere. Trump has ended some 8 wars, and there are still others, and some waiting to get triggered into violent confrontations.

It's the nature of the beast. We have to always be fighting, especially if 'we' can't get along with our neighbors or our neighbors have something which we envy or want.

Weapons testing

Sounds like something more dangerous than a nuclear device and faster.

Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), nicknamed “Star Wars”. ?????????

Both Russia and China have been testing nukes for some time in a way that avoids detection - don’t ask me how but that was a report I read a few days back
