NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Illegal immigrants living in New Bedford and Fall River said they're scared to cross into Rhode Island, following Gov. Don Carcieri's enforcement of immigration laws. Under the governor's executive order, Rhode Island State Police have been directed to process immigrants, which could fast track an illegal immigrant's deportation. Civil Rights Groups Call Governor Insensitive To Minorities PROVIDENCE -- A report by civil rights groups has charged Gov. Don Carcieri with insensitivity to minority groups, but the governor's office called the claim misplaced. The report charged Carcieri has regularly given short shrift to the interests of nonwhites, and has failed to consider their views in decision making.
