After President Trump claimed Joe Biden was “against God” during a speech to his supporters yesterday, the media pounced. Over and over again journalists on the big three networks and cable news insisted Biden was a “devout Catholic.”This is the same media who feigned righteous anger at Trump standing in front of a church, yet demand you chuck the Bible out the window when it comes to Democrats’ antithetical beliefs on abortion and marriage. Thursday night, self-proclaimed Catholic host Chris Cuomo opened his show by bashing Trump as a fake Christian before going on to defend Biden’s religiosity, with former...

Remember Del Hall...the guy who gave up food for Lent and chose to adopt a beer-only diet? Ringing a bell now? Well, we're back with an update because his boozey mission is done and he didn't crumble once - and he's 44 pounds lighter for it. Del, who works at Fifty West Brewing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, has drank exclusively from an assortment of beers for 46 days - a plan which was inspired by the fasting rituals of 18th century Bavarian monks...

A change came over Tashfeen Malik two or three years ago. She started dressing more conservatively, wearing a scarf that covered nearly all her face, and became more fervent in her Muslim faith, according to some who knew her in Pakistan. But her path from there to the bloody events of this past week -- when she and her husband slaughtered 14 people in a commando-style shooting rampage -- remains a mystery. ...

The latest news reports indicate that Senator Edward Kennedy will receive the high honor of being laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery alongside the earthly remains of authentic American heroes who gave their lives in service to their country. No one in authority asked me if this an appropriate exclamation point to the seventy-seven year statement that is Kennedy’s earthly life, but just in case anyone was wondering; I would say that it may be more fitting to bury the former Massachusetts senator at sea. More specifically; I’m thinking of a private, if not secretive, late night send-off during...

(h/t Jody) As you know, Gov. Palin gave a speech last night at the Lincoln Dinner in Anchorage. We're still waiting for some audio or video of the speech, but we do have some "field reporting" from two people who attended the dinner. We got a play by play from "jasonthealaskan" who twittered the speech (until his phone died). Jason now has a blog post up about the dinner. He recounts a great joke from the governor's speech: The dinner was catered by the Hilton Hotel, they were serving pork. She said, and this was pretty funny, "I've just passed...

A couple of years back, the University of Colorado forged a nonbinding agreement with legislators, promising to protect and nurture ideological diversity on campus. In fact, it was only last month that CU president Hank Brown expressed his apprehension to regents about the lack of movement on this front. Well, if Brown is serious about this endeavor, he should make it a priority to investigate the firing of social conservative CU instructor Phil Mitchell - and not for the reasons you may suspect. Mitchell, whose plight I first wrote about two years ago, believes that publicity surrounding CU's initial attempt...

An American couple going out for two years have enjoyed their first kiss - at their wedding. Katie and Tim McAfee agreed to a sex ban and no kissing before they wed. The couple from Bismarck, North Dakota, are devout Christians. They prayed with their parents for God's strength before going out on dates. Tim, 25, touched his 24-year-old wife's lips for the first time at Bismarck's Evangel Temple. Tim said his kiss with Katie was great but added: "I don't have anything to compare it with." Katie's sister, Margie, 21, and her new husband Nadir Torres, 22 also took...

BRING BACK THE BELLS: MASS SEEN AS IN REAL NEED OF RETURN TO SENSE OF SACREDWe all remember that during the election of Pope Benedict XVI, the Vatican initiated a new backup system in announcing the decision. Instead of just using smoke, the Church instituted the ringing of bells as a confirmation. We suggest that the Church take it another step and institute (or should we say, "re-institute") the bells during Mass. Bring those bells back into the liturgy! Many of us remember how, before the reforms of Vatican II, bells were jingled during Consecration. There were three long rings as the...

In Angry Waves, the Devout See an Angry God BANDA ACEH, Indonesia, Jan. 4 - Aceh's highly influential Islamic clergy have explained the giant wave that devastated this overwhelmingly Muslim region as a warning to the faithful that they must more strictly observe their religion, including a ban on Muslims killing Muslims. The infusion of religious meaning into the tragedy, in a province already known as Indonesia's most fervently Muslim area, suggested the consequences of the Dec. 26 tsunami could extend well beyond the death toll. The sweeping destruction has torn apart the infrastructure on the northern part of Sumatra...

Devout Catholics show symptoms of compulsive disorder A new study claims devout Catholics are more likely to show symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. It compared nuns and priests with committed lay Catholics and others with virtually no religious involvement. Volunteers were asked to list symptoms like intrusive mental images and worries. Researchers from the University of Parma in Italy found the more devout Catholics reported the more severe symptoms. But they admit the study doesn't prove religious devotion in early life causes symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Claudio Sica and his team say it's equally likely people with those character traits feel...
