Denise DosSantos, the director of City Council Relations under Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, sent out a mass email invitation to a plethora of council members for an “Electeds of Color” holiday party. However, the email was mistakenly sent to the whole council by mistake, not just members who are people of color (POC).The invitation read: “On behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu, I cordially invite you and a guest to the Electeds of Color Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Parkman House, 33 Beacon Street.”DosSantos then issued an apology after she discovered that she had accidentally...

In a recent turn of events, the Mayor of Boston has stirred controversy by hosting a holiday party exclusively for “electeds of color,” a move that has raised eyebrows and legal questions about racial discrimination. The controversy escalated when the email invitation, intended only for non-white city council members, was mistakenly sent to all council members, including their white counterparts. The party, which is still scheduled to take place, has become the focal point of discussions surrounding racial inclusivity and legal implications. The Mayor’s decision to exclude white council members from the event has been met with criticism, with one...

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) once claimed he had only a "vague recollection" of and hadn't looked at the anti-Semitic speeches made by his uncle in the 1990s, but a 1992 editorial by the Democratic leader uncovered by CNN shows he defended his uncle, his comments, and notorious anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Jeffries’s uncle, Leonard Jeffries, faced backlash in the 1990s for his comments accusing "rich Jews" of being responsible for the slave trade and alleging the existence of "a conspiracy, planned and plotted" by Jewish executives in Hollywood to portray black people poorly. Farrakhan...

In case you haven’t fully gotten the message, African-American Democrats are really angry with any African-American Republican that embraces President Trump. Then, if an African-American Republican runs for an elected office, well, the racial slurs fly… from the Democrats. The race for Kentucky’s Attorney General is no different – just ask Daniel Cameron. Daniel Cameron is an African-American Republican candidate for attorney general in Kentucky. He came under attack by Dawn Elliott, a liberal female African-American lawyer and co-host of a political talk radio show, this week. Cameron is running against Democrat Greg Stumbo, a 67-year-old white Democrat who is...

Former Vice President Joe Biden maybe be reconsidering his harsh criticisms over President Donald Trump’s cuts to Medicare. The Trump administration unveiled its budget proposal for 2020. As IJR previously reported, the budget aims to decrease the annual deficit and secure the final funding needed to complete the southern border wall. As part of Trump’s proposed budget, the administration decided to keep cuts proposed by the Obama Administration when it comes to Medicare. According to a report by Axios, Trump’s team proposed cutting around $800 billion over ten years, with the majority of the spending cuts coming from renegotiations of...

Sen. Joe Donnelly (Ind.), a conservative Democrat in one of the tightest reelection battles in the country, made a cringeworthy and puzzling statement about some minorities on his staff during a debate Tuesday night. To begin, here’s a quick vocab refresher. The definition of the word “but,” according to Google, is “to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned." So it was strange when Donnelly, in what seemed like a genuine effort to compliment his aides, said this when asked how he would bring diversity into his staffing: “Our state director is Indian American, but he does an...

A senior policy adviser to Democratic senator Patty Murray (Wash.) said her office in the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions does "not care about anti-Semitism," according to two people who attended the meeting. "We don't care about anti-Semitism in this office," Murray's senior adviser said. "We care about transgenders, we care about blacks, we care about Hispanics, we care about gays, we care about lesbians, we care about the disabled." "We don't care about anti-Semitism in this office," he said.

At the same annual event where former mayor Rudy Giuliani famously dressed in drag, things got awkwardly racial For the uninitiated CPT is an acronym for colored people time, an old stereotype African-Americans have employed in jest amongst each other to excuse tardiness. Unfortunately, I found out on Monday that the shorthand CPT is no longer just an inside joke, but such a commonplace referral that even Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are publicly joking about the term. At a charity event Sunday night, the Democratic presidential candidate apparently decided her campaign had successfully brushed...

Chicago Public Schools’ plans to close under-enrolled schools to save money could lead to lawsuits. An analysis of the 129 schools that CPS could close finds that African Americans will bear a large burden of the closures. The Sun-Times report found 117 of the 129 schools that could close are made up of a majority African-American students. Nine of the schools are majority Hispanic. In comparison, CPS, as a whole, is 41.6 percent African American, 44 percent Hispanic and 8 percent white. Meanwhile, the commission reviewing the district’s plan is siding with CPS in its final report. However, while CPS...

The President of the Coalition of African-American Pastors says supporters of traditional marriage are facing the same discrimination that blacks faced during the civil rights movement. “Some people are saying because of the position that Chick-fil-A has taken - they don’t want them in their cities,” Rev. House Democrats said Tuesday they will offer an amendment to push to overturn stand-your-ground self-defense laws in states like Florida. The amendment, which would withhold some grants from states that have such laws, will come as part of the House's debate on the Commerce Department spending bill. Emphasis added

Buried in a recent New York Times profile of Attorney General Eric Holder is this revealing tidbit: But Mr. Holder contended that many of his other critics — not only elected Republicans but also a broader universe of conservative commentators and bloggers — were instead playing “Washington gotcha” games, portraying them as frequently “conflating things, conveniently leaving some stuff out, construing things to make it seem not quite what it was” to paint him and other department figures in the worst possible light. Of that group of critics, Mr. Holder said he believed that a few — the “more extreme...

You know he’s getting desperate. (NYT) — For nearly three years, Republicans have attacked Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on national security and civil rights issues. For months, they have criticized him over a gun-trafficking investigation gone awry, with dozens of leaders calling for his resignation. Last week, more than 75 members of Congress co-sponsored a House resolution expressing “no confidence” in his leadership. [...] In the interview, Mr. Holder offered a glimpse of how he viewed the criticism. He said he thought some critics — like Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who favors allowing the military...

When the Civil War ended, and after Republican President Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, Democrats initiated Jim Crow laws to keep the black man down. Democrats didn’t much like blacks. In fact, the KKK, as you know, was founded as the the terrorist wing of the Democrat Party. Setting the Record Straight A group of black activists led by Wayne Perryman has filed a brief against the Democrat Party for its long history of racism and discrimination of the black community.

No one expects African-Americans to vote in anywhere near their numbers from 2008, when their 65 percent turnout matched that of whites for the first time. But that isn't stopping Democratic organizers and supporting groups from using aggressive, even racially charged, tactics to get them to the polls Tuesday. The Democratic Party, organized labor and civil-rights organizations are investing more money in campaign advertising and field work compared with previous midterm elections to break through widespread voter apathy and reach arguably the party's most loyal group of voters. If trying to overcome the Republicans' strong momentum in congressional races isn't...

This case of voter rights abuse was already won, and all that remained was the sentencing. And then suddenly - at the last moment - someone under Obama-appointed Attorney General Eric Holder came in and dropped all charges. New Black Panther leader Samir Shabazz stood outside the door of a voting location clad in a threatening uniform and bearing a police-style baton. Several witnesses testified that he made a number of threatening racially-charged references. He's not guilty in Obama's hopey-changey America. Because overt acts of racism are fine, as long as the perpetrator is black and the victims are white....

"President Obama quickly forgave (Harry) Ried for saying he was an okay presidential candidate because he had lighter skin and didn’t speak negro, "unless he wanted to." You've heard that story. But did you know about the other democrats in power who have made racist remarks? They include Barack Obama himself, Vice President Joey Biden, Sonia Sotomayor, and Dick Durbin. So you have the President, the Vice President, a Supreme Court Justice and the top two democrats in the U.S. Senate! See the comments the others made here. So why is racism tolerated on the left? Why don't so-called Black...

One of the enduring mysteries of the 2008 campaign was what got Ted Kennedy so mad at Bill Clinton. The former president's entreaties, at some point, backfired, and the explanation has never quite emerged. I've finally gotten my hands on a copy of Game Change, in which John Heliemann and Mark Halperin report: [A]s Hillary bungled Caroline, Bill’s handling of Ted was even worse. The day after Iowa, he phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy. Recounting the conversation later...
