  • Houston Police Vow to Go After Anti-Gun Groups Calling 911 on Open Carriers in Texas

Texas will soon join the other 45 US states that allow open carry and anti-gun groups are not happy about it. At least one anti-gun group is attempting to make life miserable for all gun owners who choose to openly and legally carry their firearms by calling 911 and making false claims. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) is using social media to urge people to call 911 any time they see someone openly carrying a firearm.

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) yesterday launched an effort on its website and via Facebook to have Emily Miller, chief investigative reporter for WTTG, the Washington, D.C. Fox News affiliate, fired from her job for appearing at a gun rights rally several days ago in Virginia. CSGV said today on its Facebook page that more than 3,000 people have signed an on-line petition demanding that WTTG general manager Patrick Paolini pull the plug on Miller, who authored “Emily Gets Her Gun…But Obama Wants to Take Yours.” The book was a blistering account of Miller’s efforts to get a...

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has, within a week of the revelation that Defense Distributed has managed to design and "print" a fully functional firearm, constructed (almost) completely of plastic, suddenly put on a brave face, saying that predictions of the death of "gun control," brought on by printed guns, are "hype." On their Facebook page, on the morning of Thursday, May 9:

Kurt Hofmann is the St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner. Due to a horrorific traffic accident which left him in a coma for nearly a month, Kurt now gets about in a wheelchair. For someone for whom life has played such a cruel trick, he is remarkably well-adjusted, even-tempered, thoughtful, and full of life. This is especially true when you consider that at an earlier time in his life Kurt served our country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. I have had the pleasure to meet Kurt in person more than once and to have an ongoing correspondence with...
  • CSGV backs government 'right' to political violence against citizens

As discussed about a week and a half ago, this correspondent got into a bit of an argument, via Twitter, with the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), in which they called me an "insurrectionist," and basically accused me of "treason." When I pointed out that I couldn't very well be an "insurrectionist," given the lack of, well . . . an insurrection, their bizarre reply seems to claim that insurrection can come in the form of thought: There can be insurrection whenever individuals think their guns makes [sic] them above the law and the democratic process. Leaving aside the...

Back in May, 2011, this column had the great honor of being excoriated in a blog published by the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. A superb Claire Wolfe quote cited in the author's Twitter profile drew some of the criticism, but the cause for most of CSGV's anguished bleating was this article, particularly the following passage: If gun owners are indeed a minority in the U.S., so what? Does being in the minority make one's rights less worthy of defending? Such a situation would hardly be consistent with the values that are supposed to be an essential part of what...

Conservative journalist and perennial thorn in the "progressives'" side Andrew Breitbart has become the latest "insurrectionist," according to the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence(CSGV): "Insurrectionism Timeline" updated w/ Breitbart's fantasy about shooting war against Americans who disagree w/ him. We've talked about their little "Insurrectionism Timeline" before. That's where they chronicle every instance they can find (well--not every instance--they try to stick only to the "insurrectionism" of the "right wing") of what they consider "insurrectionist rhetoric," starting (for some reason), with the Supreme Court's Heller decision. Yes--to CSGV, the United States Supreme Court is "insurrectionist." Mr. Breitbart's "scary" words were...

In his first extended public apperance since getting out of prison, Plaxico Burress announced Monday in New York City that he has partnered with the National Urban League and the Brady Center to combat gun violence. “I want to see every child have a chance to succeed. I have an opportunity to make a difference,” Burress said via the New York Post. Quickly rehabbing his public image with a partnership like this is a page taken directly out of the Michael Vick playbook. So is the news Monday that Tony Dungy will serve as a mentor to Vick. Magic Johnson...

Yesterday, National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea reported that Josh Horwitz, of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) has described him as a "threat to the rule of law." You really need to read David's article--I promise it will be well worth the time, and I'll be waiting here, when you get back. OK--so now you know what what makes David so "dangerous," according to Horwitz. It's that he reminded enthusiastically statist journalist Ted Rall that sending American citizens--who have broken no laws--to be tortured, is likely to provoke a forceful reaction from the citizenry. More specifically, though, David...

STATEMENT OF CSGV EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOSHUA HORWITZ ON GUN INDUSTRY IMMUNITY BILL This bill is based on a series of fabrications and half-truths, and its supporters have twisted the facts in an attempt to defend the indefensible -- the idea that gun sellers should be shielded from the legal consequences of their own misconduct. The National Rifle Association and its allies have claimed that civil lawsuits are a threat to the U.S. firearms industry, yet many of the gun makers involved in irresponsible distribution practices that put firearms in the hands of criminals are foreign corporations. The supporters of this...

WASHINGTON – Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Executive Director Josh Horwitz today accused a pair of Texas lawmakers of “playing cheap political games” with the District of Columbia’s gun laws at the expense of democracy in the nation’s capital. Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, both Texas Republicans, held a news conference to announce the introduction of the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act of 2005, which would repeal the city’s gun laws, in the Senate. “The citizens of the District of Columbia should have the power to decide by democratic means whether and how firearms will be regulated...

Hidden Agenda The truth behind John Kerry`s record on your firearms rights. by Wayne LaPierre If you thought the eight long years of the Clinton/Gore administration`s war on firearms owners` rights were oppressive, they would pale in comparison to what John Kerry would have in store for us if he captures the White House and evicts President George W. Bush in November. John Kerry--whose record of words and misdeeds on firearms rights has earned him a key place among the most solid "F" candidates ever rated by the National Rifle Association--is now posing as a self-styled"lifelong hunter and gun owner,"...

Coalition to Stop Gun Violence: "KILLING MACHINES" The "Coalition to Stop Gun Violence" has just published a 13-page screed titled "Killing Machines", which purports to be about all the horrible evils of so-called "assault weapons". With the sunset of the 1994 "assault weapons" ban coming up in a year, it's no surprise that this sort of propaganda would be surfacing, and it this document is any indication, the anti-gunners are pulling out all the stops to maintain their fear-mongering grip on the minds of "average" Americans. Those of us who know the truth of this matter need to start preparing,...

CSGV Statement on Sniper Shootings in DC Metropolitan Area The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence extends its sympathies to the recent shooting victims and their families in the Washington, DC region. These sniper shootings have shattered our community's sense of well-being and safety. We live here, and like everyone else in this region, we are hoping the police will quickly capture the shooter. We do not know exactly the type of gun used in the shooting, nor do we know how the shooter obtained the gun. However, we do know that there are tools that could potentially help law enforcement...
