The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has, within a week of the revelation that Defense Distributed has managed to design and "print" a fully functional firearm, constructed (almost) completely of plastic, suddenly put on a brave face, saying that predictions of the death of "gun control," brought on by printed guns, are "hype." On their Facebook page, on the morning of Thursday, May 9:

The concept of a government "monopoly on force" may sound inconsistent with the political traditions of a country steeped in stories of its own revolution, but it is the fundamental organizing principle of any nation-state.

The socialists who love that crony-capitalist bond between government and their favored businesses have always supported the fundamental organizing principle of a government monopoly on force. Those of us who love freedom disagree.

The printed guns are hype. Criminals are lazy and cheap. They are not going to spend the money and learn the processes needed to create a plastic gun that can only fire less than a dozen bullets. It’s easier to create your own gun in a metal shop.
