Since last September's update, the Java in my mom's 'puter has not worked properly, and she is unable to go use her "Pogo" site. I have tried using the MS uninstaller, and the Oracle site's uninstaller with no success. The folks at Staples went through the programs line by line and removed Java that way, but that only lasted a week, and the problem came back. No further Java updates have been able to install themselves, and she is stuck with a non-functioning Java v7.7 Help, if you can. Snide apple and linux comments will be ignored

You all know that I've been having computer problems. My old computer died and this is a used one I bought to replace it, and it spent a week in the shop as well. Anyway, one of the great things about the Internet is getting to listen to radio and watch television in exotic foreign languages. But for some reason suddenly my Mozilla Firefox can't support live streaming via Windows Media Player. And I have the plugin! I downloaded it myself. It's there; I checked! So please don't tell me to download what I already have. I just want to...

I did a little research and found a ton of info and a lot of people complaining about problems, would you recommend a person with mediocore pc problem solving skills install this?

For the last couple of months my computer has periodically been freezing up when not in use. It locks everything, even the clock. I've not added any new programs. I even have uninstalled Symantic and went with Avast/Spybot/Windows firewall. When it happens I can't even use ctrl/alt/del. (It's a Windows XP OS.) I have to manually shut down the computer and reboot. Any suggestions? Thanx.

Well, my experiences of both types of laptop this week has left me reeling. Where do I start? Let’s start with the Mac, a MacBook with OSX preloaded. The MacBook was a joy to look at, very well finished with a glossy white sheen that looked and felt good in the hand. And light. On opening the thing had obviously been placed in suspension, and it just started. It found my network and was ready to use. The interface, OSX, with its one button for the mouse, threw me for a few minutes as I am VERY used to Windows...

When I turn my computer on and the screen appears, all I get is the hourglass (The mouse pointer turns into an hourglass whenever I move it towards the START menu or taskbar) and I'm unable to access my START menu. I usually turn the power off several times before it works again. I just did a virus and spyware scan and they came back clean. Yes, I have Windows XP (Cue the "Get a Mac!" responses). Please advise.

Thanks for any help. This morning I was online (using dail-up) and it forze up on me. I have windows 2000. So I hit the restart again and unplugged and replugged my keyboard (that's worked in the past for the mouse). Well now the monitor seems to start but goes immediately to like power save, with the the monitor light going from green to light yellow. Its on but not showing anything. Any suggestions? Its at home so I will...
