::Sigh:: Anybody know why my Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox isn't working?

You all know that I've been having computer problems. My old computer died and this is a used one I bought to replace it, and it spent a week in the shop as well.

Anyway, one of the great things about the Internet is getting to listen to radio and watch television in exotic foreign languages. But for some reason suddenly my Mozilla Firefox can't support live streaming via Windows Media Player. And I have the plugin! I downloaded it myself. It's there; I checked! So please don't tell me to download what I already have.

I just want to know why it isn't working!

In Firefox.....go Tools, Options, click on the Applications tab. Ensure you have FF set to utilize WMP for .mp3’s or other media you wish to play in WMP.

I don't think you understand. I'm referring to live streaming broadcasts, not playing mp3's. And my Firefox doesn't even seem to know it has the plugin on it, even though it does!

I don't know what "utorrent" is.

Is your new computer 64 bit versus 32 bit? A lot of plug ins for Firefox don’t work on the 64 bit version (such as Flash player).

It was working, but quit?

Do you get an error message when you try to run a live stream?

What version of FF and what version of MSPlayer?

I don't know. And it's a used computer, about five years old, I think.

Flash works just fine.

I think it was working. But this thing's only been out of the shop for over a week. This might be the first time I've tried it.

No. There's just no wmp thingie on the page, as if the browser doesn't know it's there (but it is there).

What version of FF and what version of MSPlayer?

The latest Firefox, I think. And I don't know about the wmp, but we're not talking about the separate wmp but about the embedded plug-in that's supposed to play live streams.

Then, when did you download the plug-in?

Have you tried downloading and re-installing Windows Media Player?

Have you tried downloading and re-installing Windows Media Player?

Yes. I just upgraded to wmp 11 and then unintalled and reinstalled the Firefox plug-in.

It still doesn't work.

I give up.

Then, when did you download the plug-in?

Today, several times. In fact, I just uninstalled and reinstalled it again (after upgrading my wmp).

It still doesn't work.

I quit.

Could be a codec thing. Have you tried running other videos in the new WMP?
If all else fails, try re-installing an older version of WMP.

I had the older version until just a few minutes ago. It didn't work. Neither does the new one.

I don't think you're understanding what I'm talking about. I don't mean the main wpm interface. I mean pages that have embedded live broadcasts where the embedded player is supposed to appear on the page and play the broadcast. The Firefox on my old computer worked like a top. But now looks like I'll have to switch to IE if I want to listen to live streaming radio.

From the Mozilla website:

Type about:plugins into the location bar. There should be an entry for Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library (File name: npdsplay.dll) and two entries for Microsoft® DRM (File name: npdrmv2.dll and File name: npwmsdrm.dll).

If some or all of the files are missing, you can download the individual files from dlldump.com and place them in the Windows Media Player directory (usually C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player):

npdsplay.dll: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/N/npdsplay.dll/3.0.2.629/

npwmsdrm.dll: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/N/npwmsdrm.dll/9.00.00.3250/

npdrmv2.dll: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files_new.php/dllfiles/N/npdrmv2.dll/9.00.00.32508/

Sorry I can't get into a technical discussion with you, but for what it is worth Firefox is running extremely slow for me today - especially for pictures or videos.

Good luck!

I have a feeling if you were actually here you could solve the problem. Unfortunately, I look at the information you have posted and my head spins.

My "about" has npdsplay.dll, but it doesn't have one Microsoft® DRM, much less two.

::Sigh:: Looks like I'll be using my IE browser a lot more than I used to.
