The Big 12 extended membership invitations Friday to BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston to join the Power Five league that will be losing Oklahoma and Texas to the Southeastern Conference. The eight continuing members of the Big 12 unanimously approved the applications of the four schools. The moves come six weeks after the SEC invited Texas and Oklahoma to join its league in time for the 2025-26 season, though there remains the possibility that could happen sooner. For now though, the Big 12 appears focused on the additions.

The Oklahoma Sooner and Texas Longhorn athletic programs have requested an invitation to become members of the Southeastern Conference. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey received the request Tuesday and announced there will be a meeting between the conference presidents and chancellors to vote on sending an invitation to the colleges. A coalition of national LGBT advocacy groups is urging the Big 12 not to admit BYU as a new member, FOX Sports has learned. On Monday, Athlete Ally, a non-profit that conducts LGBT awareness campaigns for sports leagues, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, sent a letter to Big 12 administrators detailing what they believe are discriminatory policies by BYU, a religious institution owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Missouri football Coach Gary Pinkel was arrested by Boone County Sheriff's Department officers Wednesday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Pinkel was pulled over at 10:15 p.m. on Keene Street just north of Broadway, according to the incident report. He was stopped for lane and signal violations, Chief Deputy Major Tom Reddin said. The deputies developed probable cause that Pinkel was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the report. He was cooperative with officers and taken into custody at the Boone County Jail. He posted $500 bond for the first-offense DWI arrest.

The president of the University of Oklahoma says his school and Texas A&M both received invitations to join the Southeastern Conference during the last round of conference realignment. Two media sources -- Jackson, Miss., television station WJTV and A&M blogger/radio host Billy Liucci -- report that Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive is meeting with Texas A&M officials today in College Station, Texas.
