The president of the University of Oklahoma says his school and Texas A&M both received invitations to join the Southeastern Conference during the last round of conference realignment.
Oklahoma ended up remaining in the Big 12. University president David Boren said Wednesday that the Sooners had offers from both the SEC and the Pac-10.

Now that the Big 12 no longer has twelve teams, the conference will change its name to the DeLoss Dodds Conference.
Notwithstanding their recent bowl game results against major and minor conference opponents, OU might have been fairly competitive in the SEC within a couple of years. But the Aggies would have been the SEC butt-monkeys for the foreseeable future, even longer than the Razorbrokebacks were. Both schools were wise to stay out of the SEC.
Nah, you got the PAC10 with twelve teams, the Big Ten with twelve teams and the Big 12 with ten teams. Conference realignment will promote math learning the same way that March Madness Regional placements promote geography learning.
The Big Ten and the Big Twelve should simply swap names. :0)
I actually think Texas A&M would be a good fit for the SEC. The strong military tradition would be much more welcome in the Southeast than on the Left Coast. That said, I wouldn;t mind OU either. I would have doubts about UT and the UT ego.
TAMU would be a decent cultural fit with the SEC, much moreso than with the PAC-10. That doesn’t change the fact that TAMU would be the SEC butt-monkeys for years, just like Arkansas was when it left the Southwest Conference for the SEC 20 something years ago.
I don’t think they’d be the “butt-monkeys” as you put it for years to come. The Aggies would at least be as competetive as Ole Miss, the Hogs, USC, and UK. Probably more so.
Don’t forget Arkansas won the SEC West in 1995- their fourth season of SEC play.
