Video of meteorologist predicting severe Texas weather two days before it occurs and showing the Doppler beams ionizing the atmosphere. The Doppler radar towers put in a couple of decades ago have ten times the power going to them required for weather forecasting. The order of magnitude of power is for weather control.

Tourists and native New Yorkers can reach new heights for a limited time on an all-new ride called The Beam. Located in Rockefeller Center, The Beam Experience opened today for visitors looking to recreate an iconic New York photo of 11 ironworkers taken 91 years ago at the same building. The 1932 black and white picture shows all the men sitting on a steel beam during their lunch break 69 stories high with a spectacular view of Central Park in the background. The lucky visitors who try this new ride at the Top of the Rock are guaranteed a picture...

A NASA spacecraft has beamed a near-infrared laser nearly 10 million miles into space breaking new ground for the agency. The laser, which is encoded with test data, was fired from NASA’s Psyche spacecraft and then sent back to Hale Telescope at Caltech’s Palomar Observatory in San Diego County, California, the agency said. The test data was transmitted about 40 times farther than the distance between the moon and the earth, which NASA says is about 238,900 miles. The SpaceX Starship, for context, traveled around 93 miles into space last week. The successful laser transmission, which NASA describes as a...

Thai actor Papangkorn Lerkchaleampote, better known as Beam, died suddenly in his sleep on Wednesday (March 23). He was 25. According to Thai media, he was found motionless in his bed by his mother, who realised he was not breathing when she tried to wake him up. He was sent to hospital and pronounced dead after attempts to revive him failed. According to the Bangkok Post, the Thai police found no signs of struggle in his room and no evidence of foul play. Preliminary investigations showed that Beam had played football on Tuesday night and eaten at a food stall...

Pennsylvania’s next COVID-19 vaccine crisis may involve a lack of people who want vaccine rather than lack of vaccine. The solution will involve convincing people, especially in rural areas, that they want and need vaccine, according to Pennsylvania Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam. “How do we collectively partner on making sure folks understand that the facts and science are there, that the health and safety of our communities is reliant upon us getting vaccinated? And that the freedom that so many folks want, and the local control, will be facilitated best when we have the most folks vaccinated in...

A Neutrino Beam Beaconby Paul Gilsteron May 17, 2019 If you want to look for possible artifacts of advanced civilizations, as do those practicing what is now being called Dysonian SETI, then it pays to listen to the father of the field. My friend Al Jackson has done so and offers a Dyson quote to lead off his new paper: “So the first rule of my game is: think of the biggest possible artificial activities with limits set only by the laws of physics and look for those.” Dyson wrote that in a 1966 paper that repays study today (citation...

Beam-Riding and Sail Stability by Paul Gilster on June 23, 2017 Breakthrough Starshot, the ambitious 30-year plan for launching small interstellar craft to a nearby star, depends critically on the sails that will ride a laser beam to 20 percent of lightspeed. In the essay below, James Benford takes a hard look at where we are now in the matter of sail stability, a subject he and brother Gregory have analyzed in their laboratory work. But as Jim points out, there is a great deal we still don’t know, emphasizing the need for a dedicated test facility in which deep...

Explanation: The International Space Station is the largest object ever constructed by humans in space. The station perimeter extends over roughly the area of a football field, although only a small fraction of this is composed of modules habitable by humans. The station is so large that it could not be launched all at once -- it continues to be built piecemeal. To function, the ISS needs huge trusses, some over 15 meters long and with masses over 10,000 kilograms, to keep it rigid and to route electricity and liquid coolants. Pictured above, the immense space station was photographed from...

It might seem like more of a magic trick than real science, but physicists have successfully made a 'cloud' of atoms exist in two separate places at the same time. The laws of standard physics dictate an object can't be in two places at once, but the researchers have exploited a quirk of tiny particles that exist in the quantum world, and applied this to atoms. Their breakthrough raises the prospect of being able to send not just information but perhaps even 'recreate' physical objects over large distances in a form of teleportation.

An oversized tractor-trailer hit a beam of an overpass under construction on Interstate 35 in Salado, causing several beams to fall onto the roadway, according to Texas Department of Transportation officials. One person was killed and three others were taken to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple with injuries that were not life threatening, Bell County authorities said.

The 104th floor of the tallest building in the western world features steel signed by the president The steel beam signed by President Obama during a visit to One World Trade Center was installed on the 104th floor Thursday. Obama, along with First Lady Michelle Obama, Govs. Chris Christie and Andrew Cuomo, and Mayor Bloomberg signed the beam during a visit to the construction site on June 14. The beam was installed on the 104th floor as the tower continues to inch closer an expected completion date of late 2013 or early 2014.

The research arm of the US Department of Justice is working on two portable non-lethal weapons that inflict pain from a distance using beams of laser light or microwaves, with the intention of putting them into the hands of police to subdue suspects. The two devices under development by the civilian National Institute of Justice both build on knowledge gained from the Pentagon's controversial Active Denial System (ADS) - first demonstrated in public last year, which uses a 2-metre beam of short microwaves to heat up the outer layer of a person's skin and cause pain.'Reduced injuries' Like the ADS, the...

For several decades scientists have been using telescopes to scan the heavens for unnatural-looking radio or optical transmissions coming from intelligent alien life. With this search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) having so far failed to pick up a single signal, however, researchers in the US now believe it is worth extending the search beyond electromagnetic waves and start paying attention to neutrinos. John Learned of the University of Hawaii and colleagues have worked out that advanced alien civilizations could send messages within the Milky Way using neutrinos, and that these messages could be picked up using neutrino detectors currently under...

Johnstown Sunday paper:“Local guys with global mission” “Beam and Minnick – much like Murtha – have deep roots in the region” –Johnstown Tribune-Democrat [EXCERPTS] Why would two guys you had never heard of take on political powerhouse John Murtha? Harry Beam, a Vietnam War veteran, and Craig Minnick, who served in the Persian Gulf, say they are not interested in political debates. The believe that the congressman was wrong to call for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, and wrong to publicly denounce Marines charged with murdering civilians at Haditha, Iraq. That's why they worked together to organize the "Boot...

The Star Trek vision of analysing rocks and minerals with the sweep of a handheld device has taken a step towards becoming science rather than science fiction. "We are developing a tricorder," said Robert Downs, associate professor of geosciences at The University of Arizona in Tucson. Professor Downs is using a technique called Raman spectroscopy to compile a library of spectral fingerprints for all the Earth's minerals. About 1,500 of the 4,000 known minerals have been catalogued so far. Although the current Raman spectrometer takes up an area the size of a tabletop, Professor Downs's colleague M. Bonner Denton, a...

A super-powered neutrino generator could in theory be used to instantly destroy nuclear weapons anywhere on the planet, according to a team of Japanese scientists. If it was ever built, a state could use the device to obliterate the nuclear arsenal of its enemy by firing a beam of neutrinos straight through the Earth. But the generator would need to be more than a hundred times more powerful than any existing particle accelerator and over 1000 kilometres wide. "It is really quite futuristic," Alfons Weber, a neutrino scientist at Oxford University, UK, told New Scientist. "But the maths and physics...
