An Indiana woman who accused her colleague of sexual assault has agreed to dismiss her case while publicly apologizing and paying the man an undisclosed sum. The Courier & Press reported that Rebecca Blair left her job at Deaconess Hospital as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist claiming she was sexually harassed by Dr. Nirmal Joshi. She filed a lawsuit against the doctor, an anesthesiologist also employed at two Deaconess hospitals, following her departure. In her public apology, Blair wrote that she apologizes to Joshi “and his family, and to all affected, for having made unfounded and false statements and allegations...

MADISON, Wis. — In 1992, Robert O. Barton was charged with having sexual intercourse with a 4-year-old child in Wausau. The child told authorities she was sexually assaulted at least 10 times, according to the disturbingly graphic court documents. Barton, 41 at the time, was charged with first-degree sexual assault of someone under the age of 13, and child enticement, sexual contact. He faced a maximum prison sentence of 70 years on the two counts. Two Wausau police officers testified to the validity of the child’s accusations. But the charges eventually were dismissed by Marathon County Judge Ann Walsh Bradley,...

Madison - The state Judicial Commission was unanimous in its decision to file an ethics complaint against Justice David Prosser in January, but split 3-3 a month later on whether to reconsider the decision, newly released records show. The commission went on in March to file the complaint alleging Prosser violated the ethics code for judges by putting his hands on the neck of Justice Ann Walsh Bradley during an argument in June 2011 Prosser contends he didn't violate ethics rules and that his hands touched Bradley's neck in a defensive reflex when she confronted him face to face. The Judicial...

A rally at the Capitol Tuesday sought to pressure Justice David Prosser to take a leave of absence. “In any workplace that I have ever been in, if somebody is accused of such serious allegations – putting a fellow co-worker into a choke hold – they would be expected to be on leave immediately,” said Lisa Subeck is a Madison common council member, and President of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin. “The alleged physical assault by Justice Prosser is completely unacceptable,” said former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk. “Justice Prosser should step down while the investigation continues.” The Dane County Sheriff’s Department...
  • More Details Emerge in Wisconsin’s ‘Chokegate’

With the Wisconsin Supreme Court devolving into a storyline only Vince McMahon could love, rumors are still swirling about what actually happened when two justices engaged in a physical confrontation behind closed doors on June 13. Justice Ann Walsh Bradley claims Justice David Prosser “choked” her. Prosser denies he choked Bradley, and claims she initiated physical contact. In the past two days, multiple sources with first-hand knowledge of the incident have been able to provide more details as to what exactly happened behind closed chamber doors. The week before the legislature was set to re-pass the collective-bargaining provision, three of...

A Wisconsin Supreme Court justice has accused another justice of choking her during an argument in her office earlier this month — a charge her colleague denied. Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Justice David Prosser put her in a chokehold during the dispute. She contacted the newspaper late Saturday after Prosser denied rumors about the altercation. "The facts are that I was demanding that he get out of my office and he put his hands around my neck in anger in a chokehold," Bradley told the newspaper. Prosser said in a statement the...
