A put its demographic ambitions in writing. The long-term goal of its Welcoming Communities initiative was to build a system that would: “support immigration and in-migration to southern Vermont and an increase in demographic diversity.” That language appeared in an April 7, 2021 announcement bylined Alex Beck, then the initiative’s coordinator at the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, or BDCC... ...The organization is a private nonprofit serving as a state-certified regional development corporation. ... ...Increasing demographic diversity was an explicit objective of an initiative supported with public money.... ...UVM described a dual purpose: improving the local program and: “serving as a...

People who sat in that room and the papers that quoted them in 1991 describe an unemployed man who liked the $15 a day and the free meals as the lone holdout in the case. The Post reports: But 35 years ago, jurors told The Post, Newsday, the Daily News and the Associated Press that the actual holdout was an unemployed man who wanted to keep the trial going so he could continue getting paid by the court for his civic duty. A law enforcement source from the time also told The Post this week that the holdout was a...

...satellite imagery shows the jet has not been seen since at least May 17. The aircraft in question, which originally carried the U.S. Air Force serial number 61-7980, was the last Blackbird produced and the last one to fly, taking to the skies for the final time in 1999. NASA has now provided TWZ with the following statement in response to our queries for more information about SR-71 tail number 844: “NASA has a long history of pushing the boundaries of experimental aviation, and we continue to explore opportunities to build on that legacy. As Administrator Isaacman has said, we...

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Islamist architecture in Canada is manifested in an interlocking network of student organizations, advocacy groups, and charitable entities, which create permission structures for the normalization of anti-Western sentiment, extremism, terrorism, and antisemitism. The success of this ideologically driven campaign to alter Canadian values and torque Canadian institutions has been broadly visible since Oct. 7, 2023, and can be measured concretely in street demonstrations and in violence directed against Jews, both of which have been driven by the mobilization networks, the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy documented in a report published last month. The...

It's 9/25, and America has every reason to pour itself a cup of ambition. Friday marks Dolly Parton Day in cities and states across the country, exactly one month after the country music legend died. The date, of course, is no accident. September 25, or 9/25, is a nod to Parton's 1980 hit "9 to 5," and cities are using it to celebrate a woman whose legacy grew far beyond country music. Nobody is leaning into it quite like Nashville. Music City is going pink for the day. Participating venues will play "9 to 5" at 5 PM, businesses and...

Nick Shirley takes his viral Minnesota fraud investigation directly to Congress, describing daycares with blacked-out windows, public funding and no children visible during his visits. He says federal action followed his reporting, including a freeze on $185 million in child-care funding.

A Pennsylvania doctor was stabbed to death as he slept by a near-naked intruder claiming to be God as his critically injured wife rushed to save their children and find help. Dr. Idris Evans and his wife were found suffering from multiple stab wounds inside their home in Edgewood, Penn., just after 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Allegheny County Police said. The couple had been sleeping in their third-floor bedroom when suspect Elijah Hemingway, 32, allegedly broke into the home from a back window and launched his overnight attack. “It was a very violent scene. The bedroom furniture broken, mirrors...

An American tech CEO allegedly helped Russian nationals hide their ownership of a digital forensics company so it could land lucrative US government contracts — including a deal with the Secret Service. Federal prosecutors announced Wednesday that Oxygen Forensics CEO Lee Reiber, 52, allegedly joined forces with Moscow-based Russian national Oleg Sergeyevich Davydov, 52, in a Cold War-style scheme to conceal the company’s Russian ties while pitching its software to US agencies. And now Reiber is headed for a Los Angeles federal courtroom. The alleged deception could have given Russian agents a foothold inside a company providing technology used to...

President Donald Trump, probably more than any politician in recent memory, understands that the United States must be energy dominant with constant access to abundant, affordable, and reliable energy for myriad reasons. President Trump also understands that the only surefire way to ensure that the United States has uninterrupted ample energy on hand is by going all in on the only energy sources that can supply dependable power no matter the weather conditions or time of day. Under present circumstances, based on a recent Heartland Institute energy scorecard, “natural gas makes the most sense according to the affordable, reliable, and...

"Danger" Will Robinson-Smith at Spaceflight Now! SpaceX is on the cusp of sending its massive Starship rocket to orbit for the first time in program history. The Starship Flight 14 mission will carry 26 Starlink Version 3 satellites into low Earth orbit, but only if the flight teams deem the rocket healthy enough to make call on performing an insertion burn. In this video, Spaceflight Now Reporter Will Robinson-Smith dives into what changed from Flight 13 to 14, the goals of this upcoming mission, and the hope of those watching from the outside to see how it all plays out....

The leaders of an unrecognized University of Wisconsin fraternity were arrested after cops found around 30 partially clothed teen pledges smeared in condiments and huddled in a sweltering, filthy basement. Fraternity president Brayden J. Klein and vice president Samuel N. Vane, both 20, were arrested Wednesday for misdemeanor hazing and misdemeanor disorderly conduct after police discovered the troubling scene while acting on an anonymous tip. Police entered the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house in Madison around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, and found the men, some of whom had “visible injuries consistent with being physically assaulted,” covered in food, condiments and other...

Fifteen years ago, a dark movie called We Need to Talk about Kevin told the story of a mother struggling to understand why her sociopathic teenaged son had gone on a murder spree at home and at school. In the same vein, we need to talk about Democrats. We should have had a national conversation about Democrat violence back in 2017, when an Illinois Democrat and Bernie Sanders supporter attempted to assassinate an entire baseball team of Republican members of the U.S. House and Senate. While the would-be assassin failed to murder anyone before being neutralized, he did manage to...

The Democratic nominee for mayor of Providence, RI, is vowing to enact a controversial rent stabilization scheme to help working families, as the capital of America's smallest state ranks second worst in the nation for affordability and homebuilding. State Rep. David Morales, a 27-year-old Democratic Socialist endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), made local history this month by becoming the first challenger to defeat the incumbent mayor of Providence in a primary. Housing affordability has emerged as the cornerstone of Morales' campaign, with the progressive candidate saying that if he wins in November, he will work toward putting into effect...

Nearly 200,000 people paid to care for disabled loved ones through Gov. Kathy Hochul’s $11 billion Medicaid-funded homecare program will hold a vote on whether to unionize — a move that could mean higher costs for taxpayers. The politically influential 1199 SEIU union would also grow in sway and net a big payday from the new members’ membership dues from those paid through the terminally troubled Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, or CDPAP. The union vote would massively boost SEIU’s 450,000 member ranks in what would be the largest union vote in history, according to the organization. Critics fear unionization...

Elon Musk is making a sky-high prediction for artificial intelligence. The SpaceX CEO says computing will eventually move almost entirely off Earth. “The amount of compute in space will obviously round up to 100% of all compute,” Musk wrote on X in response to a video about Google’s Project Suncatcher. The project explores whether solar-powered satellites carrying Google’s AI chips could work together as an orbital data center. In the video Musk responded to, researchers describe satellites flying in tight formation and linking their chips to handle larger computing tasks. The idea is still in the testing stage. Google has...

New York Attorney General Letitia James’ legal battle against President Donald Trump over DOGE-linked access to sensitive Treasury systems ended Wednesday with a federal judge dismissing the lawsuit she spearheaded with 18 other states. The case stems from Trump’s January 2025 executive order establishing DOGE, which directed executive agencies to create DOGE teams and set July 4, 2026, as the termination date for the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization. James led a coalition – which included New York and 18 other states – that sued the following month after Treasury gave DOGE-affiliated employees access to Bureau of the Fiscal Service...

A mass walkout of delegates before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly prompted a fiery response from the Israeli leader. As Netanyahu took the stage, dozens of delegates from across the globe could be seen streaming out of the chamber in New York City. Chants of protest could also be heard in the hall as the U.N. president called the assembly to order. After taking the stage, Netanyahu said, "Before I begin, just a quick announcement, if there are any other moral cowards who haven't yet left this hall, please do so now," as...
