Keir Starmer is facing demands from Labour MPs to reprimand Donald Trump’s administration after the US president falsely claimed London wanted to “go to sharia law” under its “terrible mayor”, Sadiq Khan. In an address to the UN general assembly, Trump said: “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed. Now they want to go to sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that.” The development will cause further discomfort in No 10 after Trump was last week honoured with an unprecedented...

"Yes I do," Trump told reporters when asked about whether he would support such moves. Trump made the comments to reporters before a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. More to follow...

He wants to push me into traffic, thinks puberty blockers aren’t blocking puberty, and believes if the government says it’s okay to sterilize kids, then it must be okay. Who am I to gripe about it? He is devastated that I’m Canadian and not American, because he idolized Canadians and is a standard America-hater. He says I’m bigoted, need to go back where I came from, need to reassess my life choices, my head is hollow, I’m probably a Christian nationalist, I must love guns, hate taxes (of course I do), and I look terrible and ancient because of my...

We hear constantly about the importance of the independence of the Federal Reserve. Fine: but what if the Fed isn’t independent of politics, it is just independent of, and hostile to, the administration that is in power? Some think that is the situation now before us. Stephen Moore comments on Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s most recent pronouncements: Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was full of doom and gloom yesterday [Wednesday], forecasting 1.6% growth for this year and closer to 1.5% next year. Was he talking about Afghanistan or the United States? In the second quarter of this year, the U.S. economy...

Next month, I'm gonna take a few days and take Amtrak down to Springfield Illinois. I wanna see Lincoln's Home, etc. Basically, everything I mostly want to do is right in downtown Springfield. I won't have a rental car. I've heard mixed stories about crime in Springfield. Can anyone tell me if the downtown is safe? What are food options? How are the hotels? Are there any other places or things you'd recommend? Would I be better off staying on the outskirts of Springfield and taking an Uber or cab in to downtown? I'd appreciate any advice.

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the prolonged Ukraine war is damaging Russia's image and accused China and India of funding the conflict by buying Russian oil. "Everyone thought Russia would win this war in three days, but it didn't work out that way. It's not making Russia look good. It's making them look bad," Trump said in his address to the annual UN General Assembly. The US leader said the war was "supposed to be just a quick little skirmish" but has continued for 3 1/2 years, asking: "How many more lives will be needlessly lost on both...

The positions underlying Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric are largely uncontroversial on the right. They say Charlie Kirk was a racist bigot and white supremacist because of his beliefs on race in America. They say he was a misogynist and male chauvinist because of his opinions about gender roles. They say Kirk was a fascist and white Christian nationalist because of his opinions on immigration and the LGBT movement. From prominent American politicians, pundits, and celebrities to the hordes of anonymous chairborne social media activists, all of them said these things about Kirk for years before his assassination, and they have said...

President Donald Trump’s administration has banned Iranian diplomats from shopping at wholesale club stores and purchasing luxury goods while in America for the UN General Assembly. Newsweek reported that the Iranian diplomats love Costco because they can purchase items in bulk that they can’t buy in Iran. According to The Associated Press, the diplomats need permission from the State Department: In notices to be published this week in the Federal Register, the department’s Office of Foreign Missions determined that diplomatic memberships in wholesale club stores...

A Canadian elementary school teacher was suspended after allegedly showed his students conservative political activist Charlie Kirk's assassination and suggested he deserved to be killed. Google on Tuesday promised to restore YouTube accounts that have been banned for political speech, admitting that the Biden administration pressured it to censor Americans that did not violate the company’s terms of service, in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH). “Reflecting the Company’s commitment to free expression, YouTube will provide an opportunity for all creators to rejoin the platform if the company terminated their channels for repeated violations of COVID-19 and elections integrity policies that are no longer in effect,” a lawyer representing Google wrote to Jordan. The letter would likely affect pro-Trump political commentators...

The level of brain-dead sludge disguised as economic news just plastered on the CNN.com website just to slam the so-called Trump “threat” is enough to subtract ten points from your intelligence quotient. CNN senior reporter Matt Egan — who’s made a name for himself for pushing some of the dumbest economic hot takes circulated by the network — is apparently trying to one-up himself. “The US economy has a new problem: Democracy is under siege,” cried Egan in a September 22 headline. Egan listed off a number of actions by President Donald Trump, to effectively compare him to a third-world...

Daily Readings from the USCCBThe mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” Luke 8:19–21The term “brothers” in this passage is obviously not to be understood that Jesus had blood brothers. It is a dogma of our faith that Jesus was the only Child of Mary. At that time,...

A Biden-appointed federal judge on Monday blocked the Trump administration from terminating federal grants to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The Trump administration has terminated more than $500 million in federal funding from the school, claiming it failed to address antisemitism after allowing a “Jew Exclusion Zone” to persist on campus and is continuing to engage in racially discriminatory admissions practices. The preliminary injunction granted by Judge Rita F. Lin, an appointee of President Joe Biden, said the administration likely did not follow the proper procedure in canceling the grants. All grants that were terminated by the administration...

Watched by the world, President Donald Trump returned to the United Nations on Tuesday, delivering a blistering rebuke of his predecessor and the U.N. "Six years have passed since I last stood in this grand hall and addressed a world that was prosperous and at peace in my first term," Trump said at the outset of his speech, despite a broken teleprompter. "Since that day, the guns of war have shattered the peace I forged on two continents, an era of calm and stability gave way to one of the great crises of our time. "And here in the United...

New research reveals that climate fairness calculations have long favored wealthy, high-polluting nations by letting them delay urgent action while shifting responsibility onto vulnerable countries. Credit: Shutterstock Scientists have uncovered a hidden bias in climate pledges that rewards big polluters and penalizes vulnerable nations. Past calculations allowed high emitters to dodge responsibility and delay action. The new approach emphasizes historical responsibility, demanding steep cuts from wealthy countries and funding for poorer ones. Climate Goals Under Scrutiny Climate efforts are falling short of the Paris Agreement’s targets. To stay on track, each country is expected to contribute its ‘fair share’ of...
