A long-running battle between a pair of famed Italian eateries over the “Patsy’s” name has exploded once again, with a Harlem pizzeria with the name receiving a $300,000 penalty for repeatedly violating a two-decade old court order barring them from trademarking the disputed moniker. Frank Brija, who owns uptown’s Patsy’s Pizzaria, was found in contempt of the court order for the third time since it was issued in 2001 — a move that will cost Brija $300,000, plus attorney’s fees, according to a decision released last week. Patsy’s Pizzeria owner Frank Brija was found in contempt of an injunction for...

[Catholic Caucus] The Rise and Fall of the Cristeros | Part 3The Rise and Fall of the CristerosPart III“The country is a jail for the Catholic Church. In order to be logical, a Revolution must gain the entire soul of a nation. They will have to open a jail for each home, and they don’t have enough handcuffs or hangmen to bind up the hands and cut off the heads of the martyrs. We are not worried about defending our material interests, because these come and go; but our spiritual interests, these we will defend because they are necessary to...

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are one of the most iconic and legendary teams in the history of college football. However, it looks like one of the team's iconic logos will look a little bit different this season. Notre Dame has two primary logos. The primary logo is its "ND" wordmark, which features an "N" layered on top of a "D," which obviously stands for Notre Dame. The secondary logo has long been a cartoon Leprechaun with its fist up, appearing ready for a fight. Ahead of the 2025 college football season, Notre Dame is making a significant change to...

Wired and Business Insider have deleted articles that had been supposedly written by a freelance journalist named Margaux Blanchard – after allegations emerged that they were actually penned by an AI bot and were filled with apparent fabrications. Several other US and UK publications have published – and some have paid for – articles from Blanchard on everything from feature stories on couples getting married on video games to a personal essay on having her first child at 45. But the alleged ruse fell apart when Blanchard emailed a pitch to Dispatch editor Jacob Furedi about “Gravemont, a decommissioned mining...

10 Stories They Don’t Want You to Read Today #10 - Scott Jennings uses John Bolton’s own words to hang him after the FBI raid on his home. Jennings reminded everyone what Bolton said after the Mar-a-Lago raid on Trump. Now, those words have come back to haunt him. Bolton said: “There is no evidence there is a partisan motive here. I think everybody just ought to calm down, whether you’re pro-Trump or anti-Trump, and let the process work its way through.” The process just worked its way through as Bolton’s morning began with FBI agents pounding on his door,...

Former Vice President Kamala Harris' announcement she was going on tour to promote her new book was ridiculed on social media Thursday. The book, "107 Days," is about Harris' short, failed 2024 presidential campaign against President Donald Trump. "107 Days is my candid and personal account of the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. Over the next few months, I will travel our country to share behind-the-scenes moments, lessons learned, and how we keep moving forward together. I'll see you out there," Harris wrote in a post on social media. The former vice president announced in July that the book...

A stray dog massacred 23 newly hatched sea turtles on a North Florida beach just hours after the babies emerged from their nests, sparking calls for locals to leash their pets. The tiny carcasses were discovered during a routine survey by the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol in Atlantic Beach, officials announced in an August 21 Facebook post. The slaughter occurred near Second Street as the vulnerable hatchlings made their first desperate crawl toward the ocean, investigators say. Evidence at the gruesome scene pointed to an unleashed pet as the culprit behind the carnage. ... The suspected canine remains at large,...

Top O' the Briefing Happy Friday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. The Sine Qua Non Sequitur is participating in an Ayahuasca cheese-rolling "Weekend of Discovery" somewhere in Great Britain. In yesterday's Briefing we took a broad look at the current moribund state of the once-formidable Democratic Party. The contributing factors that have brought the Democrats to this point are many, but one really stands out — the mind-numbing mediocrity of its major players. We've often discussed the fact that the Democrats are out of ideas and have nothing to offer the disaffected voters who they've been pushing away for over...

Three youths were arrested in connection with the assault of a bus driver in northeast Calgary last week. Calgary police say they heard from Calgary Transit that a bus driver had been assaulted in the early morning hours of Aug. 15. The female driver told police that three children were leaving the bus at Rundle CTrain station when they hit the side of the bus and then pointed a gun at her. Officers were able to find the three suspects who were getting on a train at the station. The group was arrested. Police say officers seized two replica guns...

The information that provided the basis for the warrant to search John Bolton’s home Friday was based on intelligence collected overseas by the CIA, according to people who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing criminal investigation. John Ratcliffe, the CIA director, provided Kash Patel, the FBI director, with limited access to the intelligence. It involved the mishandling of classified material by Bolton, the people said. The search of the home and office of Bolton, who was national security adviser during President Donald Trump’s first term, was a major escalation of a long-running inquiry into whether he collected...

"Democracy," H.L. Mencken once wrote, "is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." Mencken probably would feel right at home among Californians in this age. Or, perhaps more accurately, among the Californians who haven't left yet.According to a new poll from Politico and its partners, California voters want graft and fraud on a massive scale to continue. And lucky for them, they've elected a governor who can deliver! For example, slightly more than six in ten Californians want Gavin Newsom to keep funding the high-speed rail project that hasn't...

It's time, Mr. President. In fact, it's the perfect time; there's likely not going to be a better one. Yes, you have your reasons for hesitating to endorse Winsome Earle-Sears for governor in Virginia; it's understandable that you might not want to put your personal seal of approval on a candidate who didn't have your back in 2022 when you announced you were running for a second term. Politics is an ugly game, and there are few who've experienced that more keenly than you. But, that was then, and this is now. This past week—and Thursday night in Arlington, in...

We saw great news earlier with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell hinting that interest rate cuts will be coming. Then, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that tariffs on foreign countries will likely reduce the deficit by $4 trillion over the decade. Those stories likely helped to send the stock market soaring, with the Dow Jones hitting its all-time high. Now there's more positive news. President Donald Trump and Canadian leader Mark Carney had a phone call on Thursday on trade issues. As a result, Carney announced on Friday that Canada would be dropping most of its retaliatory tariffs on...

Greece is moving ahead with a controversial proposal that would make it the first country in the European Union to allow 13-hour workdays for a single employer. Set to be presented in September, the draft law has already drawn sharp criticism from unions, while the government insists it will provide much-needed flexibility in the labour market. This plan builds on recent reforms, one of which includes the introduction of a six-day workweek last year. Previously, employees were allowed to work up to 13 hours per day for two employers. However, under the new framework, employees could work up to 13...

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has paid an emotional tribute to soldiers killed while fighting for Russia in its war against Ukraine, saying his ‘heart aches’ in a rare admission of military losses. Kim made the comments on Thursday at a ceremony in Pyongyang, where he met with commanders of a unit that had fought for Russia in the western Kursk region, according to North Korean state media KCNA. He praised them as “a heroic army,” with state media photos showing Kim pinning commendation badges on soldiers’ uniforms. Photos released by KCNA also showed Kim pinning badges on the...

A Burlington family wants answers after their 16-year-old son died after waiting hours for care at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital last year. The family is suing the hospital, calling for an inquest, and also wants new legislation to set a limit on how long children can wait to be seen in an emergency room. Finlay Van Der Werken's mother remembers his death all too well. She remembers the eight hour wait, the lack of care and the helplessness.

Democratic friends, let’s try a thought experiment. Imagine you woke up one morning and all your media sources were produced by Christian nationalists. You sent your kids off to school and the teachers were espousing some version of Christian nationalism. You turned on your sports network and your late-night comedy, and everyone was preaching Christian nationalism. That’s a bit how it feels to be more conservative in the West today — to feel drenched by a constant downpour of progressive sermonizing. What would you do in such circumstances? Well, at least at first, you’d probably grit your teeth and take it...

A former DEI staffer at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire will receive a $265,000 settlement after she sued the school, alleging discrimination for being White. Rochelle Hoffman, a former employee at UW-Eau Claire, brought the case in 2023 after she was promoted to interim director of the campus's Multicultural Student Services office. The school's former vice chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Student Affairs, Olga Diaz, was allegedly told by students that a White woman was not fit to preside over a position intended to serve students of color. "You hired a White woman as the interim director?" one...

Complaint filed against teacher over 2023 incidentDuring the meeting, the mother — who identified herself as Crystal Marull — said that her son was targeted by a teacher at Gainesville High School. “My older son’s history teacher allowed students to label him a ‘Naziphile’ simply for his interest in history and participation in ROTC,” she said. “She later nominated my son for ‘Most Likely to Become a Dictator’ and had his classmates vote on it and try to force him to the front of the class to receive the certificate, which he rightly refused.” While Marull testified before the board,...
