Just a question of curiosity. If people were allowed to forego paying their taxes on their personal incomes, but paid taxes on their investment incomes created by the personal income that they aren't paying taxes on, would it be a net positive for the government over the long-term or a net negative in taxes paid for the government over the long-term?

Committee investigation.. The House Oversight Committee is investigating the use of the autopen in Biden's administration. The committee is seeking interviews with four former Biden staffers and Biden's physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, to determine whether the autopen was used to sign executive orders and pardons without Biden’s knowledge. Staffer involvement.. Explanation: Grand spiral galaxies often seem to get all the attention, flaunting young, bright, blue star clusters and pinkish star forming regions along graceful, symmetric spiral arms. But small galaxies form stars too, like irregular dwarf galaxy Sextans A. Its young star clusters and star forming regions are gathered into a gumdrop-shaped region a mere 5,000 light-years across. Seen toward the navigational constellation Sextans, the small galaxy lies some 4.5 million light-years distant. That puts it near the outskirts of the local group of galaxies, that includes the large, massive spirals Andromeda and our own Milky Way. Brighter Milky Way...

We have been frequent critics of Donald Trump’s tariffs, but we understand that there is a case to be made for reconsidering some of our trade policies. The place to make that case is Congress — not by unilateral presidential declaration of open-ended worldwide “emergencies.” The Founders rebelled against taxation without representation; they did not mean for the executive to control the duties on all imports by daily whim. It is Congress that was granted power by the Constitution to “lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises” and to “regulate Commerce with foreign Nations,” and for good reason. It...

Partisan targeting or legitimate antitrust inquiry? The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking documents from the left-leaning nonprofit Media Matters to determine whether the self-styled watchdog conspired with other organizations to orchestrate illegal advertiser boycotts of conservative news sites in violation of antitrust laws. In 2024, Elon Musk sued the company for allegedly costing his X platform billions of dollars in lost advertising revenue, leading some observers to criticize the current FTC inquiry as a Musk-inspired alliance. What FTC SeeksThe FTC seeks communications between Media Matters and the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) — a cross-industry initiative of the World Federation...

Last week, unelected District Court Judge Brian Murphy told the Trump administration that it must bring back an illegal alien who was deported because, according to Murphy, the alien needs due process — and the Trump administration buckled. In court filings on Wednesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said it would bring back the illegal alien, designated by the initials O.C.G., after Murphy ruled that the administration “ignored” certain steps in the removal process. But Trump should buck rogue judges, not buckle to them. Just this past week, another district court judge ordered the Trump administration to continue to allow...

Elon Musk is stepping away from his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). But the technocratic system he helped construct is only gaining momentum. On Wednesday night, Musk thanked President Donald Trump for “the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” and added that “DOGE’s mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.” Indeed, beneath the early theatrics — silly memes, chain saws, and talk of rooting out fraud — the true mission of DOGE was clear: modernize the federal government by embedding artificial intelligence (AI) into its core functions. And in...

Preaching climate justice while arriving in a half-a-billion-dollar superyacht? The Amazon founder’s fiancée made her Cannes debut while being honored at the prestigious Global Gift Foundation charity gala for her environmental efforts through the Bezos Earth Fund and her work in social justice with This Is About Humanity, an organization that reunites families separated at the US-Mexico border. This month, 1,700 years ago, was one of the most significant and consequential events in all of Church history. Across the Bosporus Straight from Constantinople, in Nicaea, a Council met to settle a question plaguing the Church: Who, precisely, is Jesus? Their work shaped the future of Christian theology. In the first few centuries after Christ’s resurrection, Jesus was understood in a variety of ways. Only the Gnostics doubted His humanity, arguing that Jesus was a purely spiritual being who only seemed human. Others suggested that Jesus was an angel or archangel, or specifically the Angel of the Lord mentioned...
