Liz Cheney's pardon from former President Joe Biden might be keeping her warm at night as she wanders the frozen political wasteland of her own making, but she might not want to get too comfortable with her current situation. On Wednesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced the formation of a new J6 subcommittee that will be tasked with continuing the investigation into "all events leading up to and after January 6." This new committee replaces the Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight, and will once again be chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA). Here's the interesting...

On his first day in office, President Donald Trump on Monday commuted or pardoned all individuals convicted of offenses related to the “events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.” Trump’s mass-pardon actions followed then-President Joe Biden’s extensive use of the pardon power. On his last day in office, Biden issued preemptive pardons for the members and staff of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack and for several members of his own family. Trump stated in his proclamation that the clemency would start the “process of national reconciliation.” On Tuesday, a...

Burdick v. United States, 236 U.S. 79 (1915) The only pardon that has any real validity is that for Hunter. All of these “preemptive” pardons are not valid. However, nobody pressed the issue because it would have torn the country apart. So they let sleeping dogs lie, as they say. It is by no means a precedent for Biden, but this showed that everyone he pardoned is, in fact, guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors. The...
