The newspaper "Le Monde" covered the assassination of the Secretary General of Hezbollah and the terrorist with flattering descriptions of his love for sports: "a die-hard fan" • Journalist Alba Ventura was outraged and responded on the local TV channel: "to read and vomit". Sports Staff. 1/10/2024, 01:50, updated 1/10/2024, 01:53 Shame and disgrace. The assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General and terrorist Hassan Nasrallah, a welcome move that was one of the significant bright spots in light of the tense security situation in recent times, was widely covered in Israel as well as in the world. However, not all media...

The presidency of Joe Biden ushered in a new era of politics, one set to perpetuate under Kamala Harris; an era of idiocy. Kamala is dumb. I don’t intend this as an insult but as a cool-headed diagnosis. We could use more refined terminology, such as “intellectually unexceptional,” but we have a perfectly suitable, one-syllable word for her condition: dumb. I don’t mean that she would likely score in the mentally handicapped range on an IQ test, in the lowest decile, be legally considered in need of a guardian ad litem. Rather, relative to formally educated leaders, she is a...

Former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) said Monday on CNN’s “The Source” that Vice President Kamala Harris is more conservative than former President Donald Trump on “free trade” and “rule of law.” Host Kaitlan Collins said, “A lot of people who are watching this show and have watched it are familiar with Republicans who come on who say Donald Trump is not fit for office. But I like his policies better than I like Harris’s. I mean, I think the first, maybe most prominent is the former attorney general, Bill Barr, who has certainly argued that. I wonder, what do you...

Voting starts Wednesday in the annual Fat Bear Week contest at Alaska’s Katmai National Park and Preserve, with viewers picking their favorite among a dozen brown bears fattened up to survive the winter. The contest, which is in its 10th year, celebrates the resiliency of the 2,200 brown bears that live in the preserve on the Alaska Peninsula, which extends from the state’s southwest corner toward the Aleutian Islands. The animals gorge on the abundant sockeye salmon that return to the Brooks River, sometimes chomping the fish in midair as they try to hurdle a small waterfall and make...

Tim Walz and J.D. Vance debated Wednesday night. The debate was gracious on both sides. The moderators of the debate asked a number of policy questions, and each candidate answered giving some deference to the other candidate and in most cases suggesting there was some room for compromise on specific laws/policies that would need to be enacted during the next four years. Yet the tone of good will and compromise that each tried to establish to some degree was false and misleading. The differences between the two candidates and the presidential candidates with whom each is running could not be...

Ukrainian forces are withdrawing from the front-line town of Vuhledar, perched atop a tactically significant hill in eastern Ukraine, after more than two years of grinding battle, military officials said Wednesday. Vuhledar, a town Ukrainian forces fought tooth and nail to keep, is the latest urban settlement to fall to the Russians as the war stretches deep into its third year and the Ukrainian army is gradually being pushed backward in the eastern Donetsk province. The tactical significance of the town, situated at the confluence of two major roads, is two-fold. Dominant heights and proximity to railway lines offer Moscow...

Things should be what they are, in higher education as elsewhere. Colleges advertising a liberal-arts curriculum should immerse their students in literature, history, and philosophy. STEM giants such as Georgia Tech should provide, to the extent possible, world-class labs. Community colleges should offer affordable credits to local residents. The University of Alabama should teach football. (I’m joking. Mostly.) This principle is particularly true for religious schools, which have a special obligation to be faithful to their stated purposes. Zaytuna College, a Muslim institution in California, should (and does) teach the Koran. Jewish Yeshiva University ought not to shill for “Palestine.”...

In Brief: The court dismissed claims against Fani Willis in her personal capacity but kept claims in her official role. The case accuses the DA's office of not fully complying with public records requests related to Trump’s case. Fulton County remains part of the case due to its role in managing the public records portal. The DA’s office claims the lawsuit aims to remove Willis from the Trump prosecution. FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - The Superior Court of Fulton County and Judge Rachel Krause has made a decision related to the complaint that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her...

OWASSO, OKLA (KTUL) — A man with dementia at an Owasso nursing home allegedly had his voting party changed by staff without permission from his guardians. With just 10 days left to register to vote, a family said they caught this in time after they saw staff at The Highlands Nursing Home switch their loved one's party affiliation. The Family said this isn't about party, but rather avoiding election fraud. As November elections are coming up fast and the deadline to register is days away, Tracy Hopkins' family said they're worried about how many other people in nursing homes who...

An elementary school principal is on administrative leave, and the Bellevue School District is now investigating after parents complained about comments she made after a swastika was found... In an email addressed to "The Phantom Lake Elementary Community" Monday, the principal described a swastika as a symbol of hate and as a symbol of peace. She apologized for not acknowledging sooner that a swastika in some cultures is a symbol of 'peace and prosperity,' including she said in ‘Buddhism and Hinduism.’

Deaths from fentanyl appear to be going down for the first time in a decade after reaching astronomic levels - but experts warn there's a 'horrific' reason behind it. They say the drug is simply running out of people to kill, after claiming the lives of around 320,000 Americans in the last decade. Last year, around 75,000 people in the US were killed by the lethally potent drug, which was slightly down on the previous year and the first time deaths have fallen annually since 2011. Dr Caleb Banta-Green, an addiction expert at the University of Washington, says King County,...

Contract proposals from the International Longshoremen's Association could "lock America back in the Stone Age for another six years," the CEO of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors warned on Tuesday. Appearing on FOX Business, NAW head Eric Hoplin told Maria Bartiromo the union's push to ban automation at gates and for cranes moving containers and unloading cargo is "unrealistic."... "Look around the globe. ...Rotterdam started moving to automation 30 years ago. We're already three decades behind," he said.... "The fact that the president is not intervening is a mistake," Hoplin continued. "So I've joined 200 other trade association CEOs representing...

Microscopic granules of sweet potato starch (kūmara) have been discovered with Asia-Pacific taro and Pacific yam (uwhi) at Triangle Flat, a site located on the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island, according to an RNZ report. Researchers from the University of Otago – Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka determined that the Māori cultivated these crops as early as A.D. 1290 to 1385. "The first people who came here, came here to garden as well as to hunt things and they demonstrated from the outset that they were really sophisticated gardeners and they continued to be sophisticated gardeners over time," said archaeologist...

Rescuers are pleading for Nibi the beaver to remain in captivity until at least next spring. Typical of rural and small-town Wisconsin residents, Chase Melton loves fishing and hunting waterfowl and whitetail deer, and he’s used to seeing wolves in his state’s great outdoors. “I’ve never have had any trouble with them,” he told Cowboy State Daily. So he was completely unprepared for what happened last weekend. He and two other duck hunters were surrounded by a pack of wolves in northern Wisconsin, and he had to shoot and kill one in self-defense. “When it first happened, I thought, ‘Oh my God, what did I just do? I just killed a wolf!’” said Melton, 19, who...

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Tuesday claimed that Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel was self-defense. In a post on social media site X, Araqchi also said Iran would not attack Israel again, unless Israel “invites further retaliation”. “Earlier this evening, we exercised self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, targeting solely military and security sites in charge of genocide in Gaza and Lebanon,” claimed the Iranian Foreign Minister. “We did so after exercising tremendous restraint for almost two months, to give space for a ceasefire in Gaza,” he continued. Araqchi then warned, “Our action is concluded unless...
