Vance is one of the least popular vice-presidential picks this century. It's important to make a good first impression — whether you're on a first date, interviewing for a job or running to be vice president of the United States. And the two men who recently joined the Republican and Democratic presidential tickets have made very different first impressions. According to 538's new polling average of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz's favorable and unfavorable ratings, the Democratic candidate for vice president has an unusual quality for a modern politician: He's well liked. As of Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. Eastern, 38...

“White people don’t use spices” is the Harris Campaign’s message with just 82 days until Election Day. Kamala Harris and her running mate stolen valor Tim Walz won’t speak to the press but they will post a racist, cringey ‘chat’ to YouTube. Harris and Walz sat down for a conversation about their campaign. They discussed “white guy tacos,” “hot peppers” and their childhoods. Kamala Harris has not given a press conference or answered any questions since she forced Joe Biden off the ballot 25 days ago. Tim Walz is also dodging the press like he dodged his deployment to Iraq....

Kamala Harris is going to make a major economic speech on Friday. A centerpiece will be plans to blame inflation on “price-gouging” in food, medicine, housing, and more, and to go after said price gougers with all the tools of the regulatory state. ... In 301 AD, the roman emperor Diocletian faced a large inflation. According to Mike Duncan’s history of Rome podcast which I’ve been listening to lately, that inflation, we now know, had a simple cause: The Empire didn’t have enough tax revenue to pay soldiers. Not paying soldiers was very bad for the longevity of emperors. So,...

The new and more dangerous strain of the mpox virus has been detected in Sweden, health authorities announced Thursday, marking the first time the pathogen has been found outside continental Africa. A person who sought clinical care in the Stockholm region was found to have mpox -- previously called monkeypox -- caused by the rapidly spreading variant known as Clade I, Sweden's Public Health Authority announced. The World Health Organization this week classified the spread of mpox Clade I in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring countries as an international emergency and a threat to human health. It's the...

The Israeli military has touted that their forces have killed more than 17,000 Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip since the war began, with US officials saying the Jewish state has achieved “the vast majority” of its goals against the terrorists. IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said about 56% of Hamas’ estimated 30,000 forces have been wiped out since Israel waged war following the Oct. 7 massacre. Hagari said the blow has greatly affected Hamas’ ability to regroup and recover as small battalions have continued to resurface across Gaza after months of intense fighting. The latest death count is...

Hackers at a conference last weekend found numerous vulnerabilities in election machines while the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) confirmed that current voting systems to be used in the November election have not been tested by third parties for vulnerabilities. While many vulnerabilities were found in election machines at the conference, Georgia is set to use outdated election machines for the November presidential election, and the EAC doesn’t have a standard testing process in place to search out vulnerabilities in election equipment. At the annual DEF CON hacker conference in Las Vegas this past weekend, hackers hacked into election equipment from various...

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday directly responded to a proposed effort from the Biden administration to lower prescription drug prices that the president announced alongside Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, likening her proposals to the policies of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.Biden on Thursday announced the move during an event in Prince George's County."Now, Kamala is reportedly proposing communist price controls. She wants price controls," Trump said at a press conference at his Bedminster, N.J., estate. "If they worked, I'd go along with it too. But they don't work. They actually have the exact opposite impact and effect, but...

Hello and happy Thursday. There are 81 days until the election, and today we are talking about stayin’ alive — for the Harris campaign, the Trump whatever-it-is and for us voters who have 11-plus weeks to go.And for democracy. Don’t forget democracy!First, I know you’ve seen the AI-generated video of Donald Trump and Elon Musk dancing to the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive.” Trump also posted it on his Truth Social, where truth goes to die. This bromance is hard to watch. Musk’s power and privilege seem to be veering him into Howard Hughes-weird territory, where his crazy theories are matched...

Ukraine’s incursion into a sliver of Russia is likely to make it harder for Moscow to mount a major renewed offensive in Ukraine’s east and is the kind of surprise operation that could eventually impose real costs on the Kremlin, according to U.S. officials. The Ukrainian strike, and its continued success, could ultimately have strategic significance, though U.S. officials caution that they will need to see how it plays out to draw firmer conclusions. It could also help rebuild sagging morale among Ukraine’s troops and war-weary population, the officials said. The incursion, into the Kursk region of Russia, stands in stark contrast...

The New York City Council unanimously approved a plan that would radically transform a section of the Bronx, replacing low-slung industrial buildings with thousands of new apartments as the city contends with its worst housing shortage since the late 1960s.The rezoning plan will remake a 46-block corridor around the Morris Park, Van Nest and Parkchester areas, adding about 7,000 housing units near four new commuter rail stations, which are scheduled to be completed by 2027. In the years that follow a new neighborhood would emerge, made up primarily of mid- and high-rise residential towers. The plan is the latest rezoning to...

2024 Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump speaks at a 'Fighting Antisemtisim' event in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Some of the most important and alarming reporting during the 2024 election cycle has centered on what used to be one of the sleepiest and least divisive corners of election administration — the vote certification process. Specifically, the nationwide effort by Republicans to install state election officials who are prepared, if not motivated, to undermine and possibly block the certification of vote totals. If that were to happen in the right counties in the right states, it could tip the outcome of the entire election.Republicans are not being secretive about this. According to an investigation by Rolling Stone, nearly 70...

It’s been nearly a month since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee and the sitting vice president has yet to take any more than a few shouted questions from reporters in between campaign stops. Her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, has been no more forthcoming when it comes to press access. But not to worry! The pair are finally set to sit for their first interview… with each other. And based on the teaser for the sit down, the Harris-Walz campaign may be once again cribbing from the Trump-Vance ticket. On Thursday’s show, Megyn was joined...

Griffin, who as recently as last year had been viewed as a rising star at ESPN, had two years remaining on his deal.. ESPN has fired “Sunday NFL Countdown” host Samantha Ponder and analyst Robert Griffin III, ... The buyouts of Ponder and Griffin are the only moves ESPN is making at the moment, but it could choose to shed more salary by the end of September. However, the cuts are not expected to be anywhere near the bloodletting in which around 20 big names were let go last June, including stalwarts like Jeff Van Gundy, Suzy Kolber and Jalen...

Amazon MGM Studios is hoping to score a touchdown with a dramatic look at the sports and video game legend. After months, if not years of development, David O. Russell’s Madden looks to be nearing the end zone. Nicolas Cage is set to portray John Madden, the storied football coach and sports commentator, in a drama from Amazon MGM Studios to be directed by Russell, the filmmaker behind Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. But this is not a biopic of the man in the typical way, nor a sports drama, a genre Russell took on with boxing movie The Fighter....
