As a battleground state in our national political contests, Arizona is also ground zero in the fight over the future of higher education in America. Higher-ed-reform advocates have notched several victories in Arizona recently, but the forces in favor of the status quo have stubbornly resisted many of these efforts, leaving much still to be done. Effective and lasting reform will require either a significant course correction by the state’s universities themselves, or else the direct intervention of the Arizona legislature or the Arizona Board of Regents (or both) to exercise more aggressive oversight, especially regarding curriculum and employment. For...

For years, aging Americans have looked south to Florida for their ideal retirement home to escape into retirement from their four-decade grinds in the U.S. workforce. But wealthy citizens are increasingly considering a life across the Atlantic, with an unappealing showdown between Joe Biden and Donald Trump being labeled as the reason. David, a 65-year-old lawyer from Chicago, is going to Portugal on a scouting trip next month with a $500,000 budget in the hopes of finding a new second home on the Silver Coast, between Lisbon and Porto. The lawyer, who asked to remain anonymous, citing concerns he might...

I'm getting concerned myself about this crisis and what's unfolding. Yes, the daily news reports are having an effect on me. Conditions look horrific and the charities are warning hundreds of thousands face famine or acute hunger within weeks or the next month. Aid is not getting through to them so yes, i'm concerned considering the numbers. Please try and show some compassion. I dont mind if you flame me for this. This could be a proper humanitarian crisis unless it gets resolved. I sincerely wish those idiots in charge there would do what we all want and release the...

House Republicans pivot their high-stakes impeachment inquiry Wednesday to public testimony, hoping that first-hand accounts from Hunter Biden's former business partners can convince Americans that the first family made millions in a scheme to "sell Joe Biden" to foreign clients. The House Oversight Committee prepared to solicit public testimony from at least two of Hunter Biden's former associates after months of gathering documents and information in closed-door interviews. Hunter Biden was invited to attend Wednesday's session but his lawyers signaled he was unlikely to show up.

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped” (Philippians 2:5-6). Christ’s coming to earth is the supreme example to us of humility. We can usually identify with what someone else has experienced when we have gone through the same thing. Even if we haven’t been through what the other person has, we can perhaps relate because we might someday have a similar experience. However, it is much harder to comprehend what Christ experienced when He stooped from...

Adele Andaloro inherited her family's home, located in Flushing, Queens, but she was left aghast when squatters moved into her childhood home last month. Andaloro confronted the squatters herself - and was subsequently arrested when one of the men inside called the police on her for changing the locks. FRESNO, CA (KMJ) When Governor Gavin Newsom suddenly pulled the plug on Monday’s annual State of the State speech with no explanation, insiders and analysts were quick to assume the reason may be due to the extremely close vote on Proposition 1.More than two weeks after the primary election, the race is still too close to call. President Biden on Tuesday wandered off stage, beelined toward a baby and sat in the crowd as he was being introduced at a campaign event in Phoenix. “Well, folks, I have to tell you straight up,” the 81-year-old president told his supporters after venturing back on-stage.“I like you all, but I couldn’t resist that little baby.” Biden campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez – the granddaughter of labor icon César Chávez – was about a minute into her brief opening remarks when the president bolted from the stage. Biden continued to sit in the booth next to the mother holding her...

Scientists say they have successfully eliminated HIV from infected cells, using Nobel Prize-winning Crispr gene-editing technology.Working like scissors, but at the molecular level, it cuts DNA so "bad" bits can be removed or inactivated. The hope is to ultimately be able to rid the body entirely of the virus, although much more work is needed to check it would be safe and effective. Existing HIV medicines can stop the virus but not eliminate it. The University of Amsterdam team, presenting a synopsis, or abstract, of their early findings at a medical conference this week, stress their work remains merely "proof...

A federal appeals court late Tuesday night put Texas’ controversial immigration law back on hold, hours after the Supreme Court had cleared the way for the state to begin enforcing the measure. In a brief order, a three-judge panel at the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to wipe away a previous ruling from a different panel that had temporarily put the law, which would allow state officials to arrest and detain people they suspect of entering the country illegally, into effect. The panel of judges that issued Tuesday night’s order is already set to hear arguments Wednesday...

Employers are posting seemingly open roles that were never meant to be filled at all. The labour market is tightening – and it's getting harder to find a job. In the wake of the Great Resignation, which drove more job vacancies than employers could fill, workers often had their pick of open roles. Now, they have largely lost their leverage among layoffs and budget cuts, and those open positions are increasingly rare. Still, roles do exist – or at least appear to. Job boards like LinkedIn and Indeed continue to advertise open positions, and workers are actively submitting applications. Yet...
