[Catholic Caucus] The Pope Cannot Depose Bishops Without Grave CauseEditor’s note: in light of the recent news that the Holy Father, after deposing Bishop Strickland, now allegedly intends to move against Cardinal Burke (again), we present this study in conjunction with Fr. Murray’s recent analysis of the Strickland case. Father Gerald Murray has excellently analyzed the canonical side of Bp. Strickland’s removal. He has demonstrated that the guarantee of due process has been violated. Canon 196 and other related canons were masterfully explained. I myself published a different article that I wrote before having read Father Murray’s analysis. I saw...

The last few years have been a whirlwind for Americans’ finances, with inflation, fluctuating unemployment, public health crises and natural disasters making it hard for people across the country to pay their bills. Ultimately, many people have ended up in financial distress, which WalletHub defines as having a credit account that is in forbearance or has its payments deferred, meaning the account holder is temporarily allowed to not make payments due to financial difficulty. In order to shed light on the financial troubles experienced by people across the U.S., and to show where those difficulties are most pronounced, WalletHub compared...

Last week, 80 out of every 100,000 children in the Netherlands between ages 5 and 15 were treated for pneumonia, reported the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL). Pneumonia cases among tots ages 4 and under were also on the rise, jumping from 124 to 145 per 100,000. This is the biggest pneumonia outbreak the Utrecht-based research institute has recorded in recent years. For comparison, at the height of the flu season in 2022, there were 60 recorded cases of every 100,000 children in the 5-to-15 age group.

ADeutsche Bank wealth management group managing director testified Tuesday that the bank anticipates that the net worth of high-wealth clients like Donald Trump can be elevated on self-reported financial statements, but it wouldn’t necessarily stop the bank from issuing the loan – and didn’t for Trump’s loans. New York Attorney General Letitia James has alleged Trump and his company defrauded Deutsche Bank by submitting his inflated net worth statements to get better rate and in doing so also violated loan requirements called covenants. In 2013, the bank’s underwriters adjusted Trump’s net worth by about 50% from more than $4 billion...

A federal district court in Rhode Island on Monday rejected a bid to disqualify former President Donald Trump from candidacy in the 2024 presidential elections, citing an earlier ruling by an appeals court that rejected a similar claim.Chief Judge John J. McConnell of the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island on Monday summarily dismissed a complaint by John Anthony Castro, a lesser-known Republican presidential candidate from Texas, who sought to disqualify President Trump from the ballot. That marked another defeat for Mr. Castro, who has filed lawsuits in more than two dozen states over the past few months, including the one...

The typical American household must spend an additional $11,434 annually just to maintain the same standard of living they enjoyed in January of 2021, right before inflation soared to 40-year highs, according to a recent analysis of government data. Such figures underscore the financial squeeze many families continue to face even as the the rate of U.S. inflation recedes and the economy by many measures remains strong, with the jobless rate at a two-decade low. Even so, many Americans say they aren't feeling those gains, and this fall more people reported struggling financially than they did prior to the pandemic,...

Ireland’s rate of deadly violence against women could fall dramatically through sensible migration policy and other basic programs.A 2022 report by RealClearPolitics confirmed what many Europeans had long suspected but could not prove because of data obfuscation by individual governments: Europe has a massive immigrant violent crime problem. The 10-year data study showed that across the EU, “each one percentage point increase in immigrant population is associated with a 3.6 percent increase in the homicide rate.” In Germany, where police and politicians fiercely guard immigrant crime statistics, an academic study found that asylum applicants were responsible for a massive 10.4...

The U.S. economy grew at a blistering 5.2 percent annual pace in the third quarter, the government said Wednesday. This was faster than the previous estimate of 4.9 percent, which was much higher than anticipated. Excluding the rebound from the pandemic, this is the fastest pace of growth in a decade. The upward revision reflects an increase in government spending and business investment. Consumer spending was revised down as were exports. This is the government’s second estimate of gross domestic product, the official government scorecard for the economy. In the second quarter, the government grew at a 2.1 percent annual...

A lead United Nations agency overseeing food and agriculture policy is expected to issue a road map in the coming weeks which will call on the West, including America, to dramatically reduce its meat consumption. The UN's Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) will publish its so-called global food systems’ road map during the upcoming COP28 climate summit in Dubai which will kick off on Thursday and extend nearly two weeks until mid-December. FAO's first-of-its-kind document will recommend nations that "over-consume meat" to limit their consumption as part of a broader effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Bloomberg reported.

After a much longer delay than I hoped would happen, I am very happy to say that Will Irwin's The American Newspaper is now available as a public domain audio book. For those of you who have strong feelings against media bias, this one is one you will not want to overlook. It's also a short work. There are only 15 segments, and the average runtime for each segment is often times in the 20-25 minute range making it both easy and quick to consume. Irwin properly frames how media use their power for political ends, and how their power...

These pro-Hamas folks are like lice: there are so many of them, and they’re everywhere. It goes beyond uber-liberal student activist groups—scores of professionals are among them. Hamas has allies in people who you would trust with life-and-death decisions. Health care providers, lawyers, and other professionals have been exposed as not just being pro-terrorist but rabidly antisemitic. Now, we have airline pilots riding on the Jihad train. United Airlines reportedly had to suspend one of their employees for heaping praise on Hamas for the October 7 attacks. If United Airlines isn’t beating people up, they’re hiring pro-Hamas pilots to transport...

Wake up to a concerning reality – the media is subtly pushing for Personal Carbon Allowances, urging you to accept it as a normal restriction and even your civic duty. But make no mistake, it’s neither normal nor your duty; it’s an encroachment on your freedom. Under the guise of environmental responsibility, governments are pushing Personal Carbon Allowances, attempting to normalize what is essentially a curb on your lifestyle. It’s a subtle move towards control, masquerading as a shared responsibility for the planet.

“One, it’s difficult enough as a Republican. But more importantly, having Trump, who seems like he is the probable nominee of the party, is going to be even more, I would say, destructive on any Republican running in Cook County based on his performance four years ago,” Durkin said.“If I’m gonna get in the race, I have to know I can win it. I can’t run to compete. I can’t run to make a statement. And I just see no pathway to success under the circumstances in this environment in Cook County,” he said.

A boy gestures at another male and calls him ‘hottie’ and another boy ‘cute’ in Disney’s TV-PG family movie about Christmas. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Disney is sexualizing kids and pushing LGBT identification even in a TV-PG family movie about Christmas. At the 11:55 minute mark of “The Naughty Nine,” released on Nov. 22, Disney portrays the lead female character’s home: Her four siblings are opening gifts around a Christmas tree and one child tells another to go to “Dad.” Dad is shown standing alongside a much taller man, who has his arm around Dad’s shoulder, which he then lingeringly drapes along Dad’s...

The Democrats and the media have long maintained that the 2020 election was “the most secure election in U.S. history,” but, according to court documents, the former general registrar of Prince William County, Va., who was indicted on corruption charges last year, is alleged to have "changed election results" in the 2020 election. "In a county where President Joe Biden received 54% of the vote in the 2020 presidential election to former President Donald Trump's 44%, an election official at the time allegedly 'altered election results"' in the state's reporting system, leading to three grand jury indictments last year,” reports...

In October 1789, President George Washington issued a thanksgiving proclamation “to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor….” This proclamation was thus not merely self-congratulation whereby the President and others applauded themselves for creating a new government provided by our Constitution. At that point we were transitioning from the Articles of Confederation which had neither three distinct branches of government nor the idea of federalism embodied in its organization. Would the new Constitution work? Would the misgivings of some leaders prove to be...
