Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said Moscow had paid the Wagner Group around $1 billion over the past year Putin's admission of funding the mercenary group follows Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin's weekend rebellion against Russia. The mercenary boss claimed Russia's military had killed about 30 Wagner troops in a missile strike, and he ordered his men to march on Moscow. The brief mutiny ended after peace was brokered on the agreement that Kremlin charges would be dropped against Prigozhin if he agreed to go into exile in Belarus.

The smell of charcoal burning and meats cooking defines the summer for many people. As soon as the barbecue comes out, many will tuck into a juicy burger alongside fresh salads, delicious buns and veggie skewers. But now a Michelin starred chef has revealed you should never cook your burgers on the barbecue - describing it as a 'horrible' way to cook meat. David Chang, whose flagship restaurant Momofuku in New York has two Michelin stars, said a barbecue is just a 'marketing lie'. Speaking on his podcast, The David Chang Show, the chef, 45, explained: 'Grills suck for burgers....

Speaking via video link from Switzerland, Mr Luley told MPs that Swiss law was made clear in the European Court of Human Rights in 2011, in that “a person who is able to make up their mind accordingly has the freedom and right to decide on the time and manner of their own ending in life”. He added: “If you speak to experts in the field, you will see it’s a wide-held misconception or even prejudice that people who have some sort of mental illness are not competent. “But the law in Switzerland, and also by the way in the...

This week, the abortion up-to-birth group NARAL endorsed far-left Democrat U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez (NM-CD-02) for a second term, along with other “frontline” Democrats who face tough reelection prospects. The group’s president Mini Timmaraju wrote in a statement, “We’re proud to endorse this slate of leaders as the first endorsements of our 2024 electoral program. Ensuring they are reelected is essential to taking back the U.S. House of Representatives and moving one step closer to passing into law legislation that will protect and expand reproductive freedom (abortion).” The only way for a candidate to receive the radical group’s endorsement is...

A news release from the Census Bureau published on Thursday morning summarized three-quarters of a century of American history succinctly. It was titled, “America Is Getting Older.” This is the Census Bureau, so the assertion was backed up with data. The median age in the U.S. rose to 38.9 years in 2022, up 0.2 years from 2021. Over the past year, 46 states saw increases in their median ages. Four states (and D.C.) saw no change. This isn’t surprising but is, instead, a continuation of a long-standing trend. But there is an important detail that’s easy to overlook here: The...

By: Mary ChaoPosted at 2:28 PM, Jun 27, 2023 and last updated 1:31 PM, Jun 27, 2023 A loud shriek pierces the corridors of Terminal C at Orlando International Airport. A woman jumps from her seat yelling into her phone at the top of her lungs, swearing and pacing around the terminal. It’s 9 p.m. on Monday night, twelve hours after passengers for JetBlue flight 2528 began arriving for their flight to Newark, New Jersey. Tempers are short, patience is waning. Travelers are tired after sitting in uncomfortable chairs all day and purchasing expensive airport food. ...

“Money is Fungible.” We may disagree about all sorts of things in economics, but not this one. It’s one of the fundamentals. If you have a thousand dollars, you can buy something that costs $1000, or you can buy a hundred things that cost $10 each, or a thousand things that cost $1 each — or you can put your $1000 together with other money you already have, to buy something that costs more. This is so obvious it doesn’t seem worth bothering to mention, right? But it is necessary to delve into this issue, much more seriously than we...

A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday after allegedly opening fire during a dispute over a movie theater seat late Sunday, leaving one man dead. Michael Tenorio, 52, was killed and the suspect, Enrique Padilla, 19, was injured at Century Rio theater near Jefferson and Interstate 25. The shooting, in theater 15, sent patrons fleeing from the large cineplex. According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, Tenorio and his wife, Trina Tenorio, arrived at the theater and purchased tickets for the 8:50 p.m. showing of “No Hard Feelings,” a rom-com staring Jennifer Lawrence. The couple purchased seats 8 and...

And this is the updated version of the design.Flying is difficult enough. Between waiting in endless security lines, navigating delays, and squeezing yourself into irrationally small seats, it's enough to make you want to scream. And that's not even considering the stress behind planning a trip and getting to and from your final destination. But one airplane seat proposal has found a way to make the flying experience even more, let's say, cumbersome. The design isn't exactly new, having been published last summer in an exclusive with CNN. But the concept, created by 23-year-old Alejandro Núñez Vicente, has picked...

It is not easy, I think, for any Christian to come to a well-developed understanding of faith and works. The New Testament, if not read with faith, can seem contradictory. Jesus says over and over that people's faith and belief in Him saves them, but He also says over and over that people will be judged by their works. I know it took me some years of meditation to come to what I felt was a very good sense of how the two relate. Of course, this has been a major point of contention, too, between Protestants and Catholics. The...

Here's what it tastes like. We’ve all heard the expression “aging like a fine wine,” which implies that, like the best bottles, certain things get better with time. But what would happen if, say, that aging took place at the bottom of the ocean in a remote location just shy of the Arctic Circle? That’s the question that Norwegian boating company Hurtigruten wanted to test when it partnered with British Rathfinny Wine Estate to lower bottles of its 2018 Classic Cuveé to the ocean floor in hopes of bringing back a higher-quality, more mature product and, if not, to at least...

Eastern European NATO countries on Tuesday warned that a move of Wagner's Russian mercenary troops to Belarus would create greater regional instability, but NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance is ready to defend itself against any threat. "If Wagner deploys its serial killers in Belarus, all neighbouring countries face even bigger danger of instability," Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said after a meeting in The Hague with Stoltenberg and government leaders from six other NATO allies. "This is really serious and very concerning, and we have to make very strong decisions. It requires a very, very tough answer of...

"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; "And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow...

Lordstown Motors received $24.5 million to operate an Ohio factory. G.M., the factory's previous owner, received $60 million before shuttering it.Upstart electric vehicle (E.V.) manufacturer Lordstown Motors announced on Tuesday that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company simultaneously sued Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer Foxconn, its largest investor, for fraud and breach of contract. No matter how either scenario shakes out, it's all part of a long and shameful saga of crony capitalism. In March 2019, General Motors (G.M.) shuttered its plant in Lordstown, Ohio, open since 1966. Automobile factory closures are nothing new, but in 2009, amid high...
