Mentally ill people ‘have as much right to assisted dying as the terminally ill’
The Telegraph ^ | 6/27/2023 | Gabriella Swerling

Speaking via video link from Switzerland, Mr Luley told MPs that Swiss law was made clear in the European Court of Human Rights in 2011, in that “a person who is able to make up their mind accordingly has the freedom and right to decide on the time and manner of their own ending in life”.

He added: “If you speak to experts in the field, you will see it’s a wide-held misconception or even prejudice that people who have some sort of mental illness are not competent.

“But the law in Switzerland, and also by the way in the UK, says that everyone is assumed to have capacity [...] Nobody needs to prove that they are competent, but the other way around.

“The starting point is people are competent and people have the right to decide about their end of life.”

Asked about whether people who are mentally ill have the capacity to make such a decision, he replied: “Nobody needs to prove that they are competent, but the other way around.”

Serious cases would be ‘investigated’

Adults have more rights to die than the un-born.

It’s just comical, that they want the right for the mentally
ill to be able to choose euthanasia.

They’re not of a right mind, but hey, they can choose this.

It’s about as bright as letting a seven year old choose to
change their sex.

There is a massive effort to cause total chaos in this
nation, and sadly it’s working its magic.

So now, they’ll just declare that all Trump supporters are “Mentally Ill”.

Who decides who is mentally ill?

I have a feeling Christian constitutional conservatives will be conveniently (for them) deemed bat-shit crazy and in need of a mercy killing.

Exactly. Watch out for the definition of “mentally ill.”

And watch out for the definition of “assisted dying.”

I heard a Catholic priest Fr. Robert Spitzer,
(retired President of Gonzaga University) describe some assisted suicide cases overseas. Europe and Scandinavia.

Several were patients given drugs in the hospital that caused depression symptoms and hopelessness which the doctors did not oppose as they identified the patients as candidates for termination. They convinced the relatives it was for the best and had the patient sign the orders.
Others were people who were a burden to a family and the government health system with apparently not much chance at what the government decided was a worthwhile quality of life. Some of them were given the unwilling version——which is a growing type-—of suicide in which the doctor injected them and they died.

Saddest was an elderly woman heard in the hall saying in her bed “No. No. I don’t want to die. Don’t do it.” She was given the unwilling version by a doctor and nurses and died.

They must’ve discovered there is a lot of money in ‘assisted suicide’ aka...murder.

So once this is passed, that mentally ill people can make ‘informed consent’

then so do those underage for all sorts of things...surgeries, sexual consents...even assisted suicide!

Yes.

After we’ve endured Whoopi, Rosie, AOC, Adam Shift and all the trans, drag queens and others, now they’ve decided we aren’t normal to them?

One sniper shot of a summary, that right there.

There are probably a lot of politicians in DC and elsewhere who this interpretation could be applied to, but I prudently won't list any specific names here.

Conclusions
Drawing on data from the Netherlands on the use of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide and on available U.S. data on costs at the end of life, this analysis explores the degree to which the legalization of physician-assisted suicide might reduce health care costs. The most reasonable estimate is a savings of $627 million, less than 0.07 percent of total health care expenditures. What is true on a national scale is also likely to be reflected in the potential savings for individual managed-care plans. Physician-assisted suicide is not likely to save substantial amounts of money in absolute or relative terms, either for particular institutions or for the nation as a whole.

An old man had a massive stroke and was rushed to the hospital.

The ER doctor soon approached his wife and informed her while her husband was alive he was, sadly, brain dead.

“No!” the old lady cried, “It can’t be! We’ve never yet had a liberal in our family!”
