Steven Spainhouer rushed to Allen Premium Outlets — a shopping center in Allen, a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb, where the shooting happened — when his son called just after 3:30 p.m. local time and said he had heard gunfire. Just one problem… According to the Allen Police Department, Spainhouer is a total fraud. Spainhouer thought that he could make statements that would make him a material witness to mass murder and that they wouldn’t want to talk to him or investigate his claims. When Allen PD caught up with Spainhouer to discuss what he saw, it was determined that Spainhouer’s statements...

WASHINGTON — The limping conclusion to John Durham’s four-year investigation of the Russia inquiry underscores a recurring dilemma in U.S. government: how to shield sensitive law enforcement investigations from politics without creating prosecutors who can run amok, never to be held to account. At a time when special counsels are proliferating — there have been four since 2017, two of whom are still at work — the much-hyped investigation by Durham, a special counsel, into the Russia inquiry ended with a whimper that stood in contrast to the countless hours of political furor that spun off from it. Durham delivered...

SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER John 16:12–15Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to guide the Church through time. “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.”Since Jesus is the Son is God, it is impossible for us adequately to interpret him through our own powers of perception. We require a divine pedagogue through which the speech of the Father is to be understood. This is the advocate we call the Holy Spirit. The words of today’s Gospel...

We can change this by addressing the pay gap between child and adult medicineA photo of a female pediatrician looking at her laptop while a mother and son sit on the examination table. "Don't waste all that schooling on being a pediatrician. Pick a specialty that will actually pay back your loans." This is something future physicians hear all the time. Pediatricians have an average earning potential 25% loweropens in a new tab or window than their adult physician counterparts. Choosing pediatric medicine over adult medicine is an objectively poor financial decision, especially for students who are financing their education...

"And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation." Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is notorious for running a top-down operation, consulting on key matters with only a small, select group, including his wife. But as he tries to launch a presidential campaign amid weeks of bad headlines, flagging poll numbers and donors’ threatening to jump ship, his campaign-in-waiting is acknowledging that the closed-off practice isn’t working so well. Behind the scenes, aides are reassuring supporters that DeSantis’ circle of advisers is expanding to add more operatives with presidential campaign experience — and that DeSantis is listening to them, according to three people with direct knowledge of the matter. “Before,...
