Once the shooting begins, there is little place for rational conversation. Alas, recently in Nashville, TN, a 28-year-old disturbed woman, calling herself a male, walked into the Covenant School, which she had attended as a youth, and executed three adults and three nine-year-old children: Evelyn Dieckhaus, Mike Hill, William Kinney, Katherine Koonce, Cynthia Peak, and Hallie Scruggs. We note the names of those slaughtered and pray for their bereaved families. Recently, there has been a call to violence among progressives. Already, violent speech and the refusal of dialogue has taken over college campuses, where screaming and physical threats bring an...

Former President Trump on Sunday compared himself to former President Nixon, touting the support he has in Congress and within his party as he weathered impeachment proceedings and now faces ongoing legal battles. “I’ll never forget: When that happened, we had such great support. Nixon had no support. You know, he just didn’t have support. He was very, very tough with people. I get along with people. I mean, I have great Jim Jordan, and all these congressmen are great. They’re really incredible people,” Trump said in an interview with Mark Levin, aired on Fox News. “Nixon didn’t get along...

The U.S. Army is changing its terms of service guidelines and denying soldiers scheduled discharges, a letter signed by 61 aviation officers alleges. Recruitment and retention failures have beset all five branches of the U.S. military in recent years, with a 2022 Pentagon study finding that 77% of Americans aged 17 – 24 are unfit to serve due to obesity, drug use, or other health issues. The Army missed its 2022 recruiting target by 25%, and Secretary of the Air Force Gen. Frank Kendall said in March that his branch is likely to miss its 2023 target by 10%. The...

Joe Biden is enfeebled and evil, a dishonest man who promotes hate and division, and who threatens the very heart and continued existence of the United States of America. His only equal is Donald Trump. Both are insurrectionists who have violated the letter and spirit of their oaths; both are Vietnam draft dodgers risen through vile manipulations to the top of the dung heaps which are our two political parties. One ignores election results and the other ignores Supreme Court decisions and each is a tyrant of such vanity as to place all other interests beneath personal ambition. And so...

A new report has found that the millions of taxpayer-funded Chromebooks that flooded schools during the pandemic are being discarded because of their expiration dates. Chromebooks were an affordable way to help educate students during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they weren’t programmed to last. Chromebooks have a built-in “death date,” after which software support ends. Once laptops have “expired,” they don’t receive updates and can’t access secure websites. The U.S. Public Interest Research Group Education Fund shows replacement parts are both expensive and hard to obtain. In numerous cases, replacement keyboards would cost around $90, roughly half the cost of...

Sauna heat therapy reduces blood pressure in middle-aged people, according to researchers at Brigham Young University in Utah. High blood pressure can lead to serious health challenges, such as heart disease and stroke, eye problems and kidney disease. It could also damage your arteries, restricting blood flow and oxygen to the heart. The current study was based...

New research into “terminal lucidity” could revolutionize dementia care. New research into terminal lucidity — a strange phenomenon in which people with severe dementia suddenly regain their mental faculties right before death — could transform our understanding of dementia, and maybe even point to a way to reverse it. Terminal lucidity Dementia involves the loss of memory, cognition, and speech. It’s caused by changes in the brain due to injury or disease, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, and it’s progressive, meaning the symptoms get more severe over time. More than 55 million people are living with dementia, and the condition...

A number of prominent youth organizations are pressing President Biden to run on a progressive platform in order to galvanize Millennial and Generation Z voters in 2024, according to a letter first obtained by The Hill following Biden’s reelection announcement on Tuesday. The letter, which was signed by March for Our Lives, Gen Z for Change, the Sunrise Movement, and United We Dream Action, calls on Biden to deliver and run on “bold” policies, including combatting climate change, enacting gun control restrictions, and protecting immigrants rights.

New research indicates that for patients with advanced skin cancer, it may be important to maintain normal vitamin D levels when receiving immunotherapy medications called immune checkpoint inhibitors. Vitamin D has many effects on the body, including regulation of the immune system. To see whether levels of vitamin D might impact the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors, investigators analyzed the blood of 200 patients with advanced melanoma both before and every 12 weeks during immunotherapy treatment. A favorable response rate to immune checkpoint inhibitors was observed in 56.0% of patients in the group with normal baseline vitamin D levels or...

While campaigning in 2019, Joe Biden guaranteed “we’re going to end fossil fuels.” What he didn’t say is that eliminating fossil fuels will create a troublesome scarcity of electricity. He also didn’t say that was part of the plan, even though it just might be. Now with the power of the presidency behind him – again we ask, how could such a disastrous event happen? – Biden is just a few pages of paperwork away from forcing natural gas- and coal-fired power plants to sharply cut their greenhouse emissions. If the emission caps can’t be met, power plants will then...
