Here we are, in February 2023, nearly two and a half full years after the Hunter Biden laptop suppression, and the Washington Post "Fact Checker" column publishes a new report titled, "The Hunter Biden laptop and claims of ‘Russian disinfo.’" Glenn Kessler notes that among his media colleagues in October 2020, "few were willing to report information in the New York Post stories without their own due diligence, especially if Russia was once again seeking to meddle in the election." He then drills into the infamous former "intel community members" letter, which points to the laptop story as one that...

After a long hiatus from the first season of this steampunk series set in an alternative Late Victorian, set in the 1870s/1880s based on the ladies' fashions, world where humans live with sentient creatures from our mythology, for example, faeries, and magic is real, Amazon has been releasing episodes from season two. This review is based on a viewing of episodes one and two. I have noticed two big tonal changes from season one. Perhaps the showrunner or writer read my Freeper review of season one. So far there have been no gratuitous sex scenes. The second is the use...

In a new analysis of several polls, Gallup concludes that while Americans support the idea of diversity on college campuses, they “do not like the idea of colleges using race and ethnicity as a factor in decisions on college admissions.” The pro-diversity claim is that a student body filled with people of myriad backrounds — racially, ethnically, economically, religiously — enriches the higher education experience and produces stronger leaders. And while Americans in general support that goal, they do not support using race as a factor. For instance, Gallup reported, “In a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, for example, 58% of respondents...

Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted joined local officials in East Palestine over the weekend in drinking city water from the tap, in a bid to convince residents the municipal water supply is safe following a train derailment and chemical spill. Husted, a Republican, joined US Rep. Bill Johnson, Ohio EPA Director Anne Vogel, and East Palestine's mayor, fire chief and police chief in a joint event to drink the water on camera. 'You all just saw us drink a glass of water. Our municipal water here in East Palestine is safe,' said Mayor Trent R. Conaway. 'If you have well...

The American presidency is one of the strangest jobs in the world. Politicians aspire to it. The media focuses obsessively on the person who holds it and those who want to win it. Millions of books and articles have been written about it. And yet, most of the people who’ve held the job really weren’t that good. There are a few truly great presidents, some pretty good ones and a handful of complete disasters. But most can be summed up, as the Simpsons famously once did, as the “adequate, forgettable, occasionally regrettable, caretaker presidents of the U.S.A.” In fairness, the...

Once upon a time we mocked the Soviet Union for its gerontocracy. Aged party leaders, bundled up in overcoats and fur hats to the point of near-unrecognizability, would be wheeled out to sit, immobile, as parades passed or party congresses opened. Their withered, stale leadership was emblematic of the decaying USSR’s withered, stale ideology — and industrial base. But now the joke’s on us. A leading United States senator, Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), can’t seem to remember important things, like her just-taken vote on a judicial nominee and her just-announced retirement. “Did I vote for that?” she asked an aide Wednesday,...

For patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), treatment with talazoparib (TALA) plus enzalutamide (ENZA) is better than placebo (PBO) plus ENZA, according to a study. Neeraj Agarwal, M.D. and colleagues randomly assigned patients with mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic mCRPC, with disease progression and receiving androgen deprivation therapy and no prior life-prolonging therapy for CRPC, to receive TALA + ENZA or PBO + ENZA as first-line treatment (402 and 403 patients, respectively). The researchers found that the median imaging-based progression-free survival (ibPFS) was significantly improved in the TALA + ENZA arm compared with the PBO + ENZA arm (not reached...
