Treasury-market liquidity is drying up and it’s going to get worse. The problem is bigger than it seems. Liquidity in the U.S. bond market, the world’s largest, has been deteriorating since the Federal Reserve began raising interest rates earlier this year. The end of massive monthly bond purchases followed by the start of quantitative tightening has worsened the problem as the Fed tries to extricate itself from Treasury and mortgage markets after buying a third of each. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen recently said she was “worried about a loss of adequate liquidity in the market,” as Treasury supply booms to...

National Nut Day is observed annually on October 22nd. This day is NOT about the neighbor that lives down the street or the co-worker who sings with their headphones on. It is a food holiday celebrating a healthy and nutritious snack. #NationalNutDay Nuts are a highly prized food and energy source and are a primary source of nutrients for both humans and wildlife. Many of them are used in cooking, eaten raw, sprouted, or roasted as a snack food, and pressed for oil that is used in cookery and cosmetics. The fats found in nuts, for the most part, are...

In August, the Biden administration, utilizing the HEROES Act of 2003, canceled $10,000 of student-loan debt for most students and $20,000 for those who previously received federal Pell Grants. Not only was this policy deeply regressive, but, more importantly, it worsens the bad incentives of higher-education financing that are at the root of this policy dilemma. Since 1980, tuition prices have increased 250 percent, adjusted for inflation. At the same time, federal and state aid funding has grown more than 50-fold, from less than $3 billion in 1970 to almost $150 billion today (in current dollars). This is no coincidence....

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), a member of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, reacted to the news that the committee formally issued a subpoena to former President Trump on Friday with a pithy tweet. “Donald Trump, you’ve been served,” Kinzinger tweeted. Donald Trump, you’ve been served. https://t.co/ttsBFxYM2I — Adam Kinzinger (@RepKinzinger) October 21, 2022 Kinzinger also re-shared the official release from the House Jan. 6 select committee’s Twitter account in his tweet. The Illinois congressman, one of just two Republicans on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S....

Tedisco spokesperson Adam Kramer called Ostrelich’s remarks a baseless distraction and insisted that the state senator has run a positive campaign against the Niskayuna Democrat. “Someone needs to tell her that whatever is happening is originating from inside her own house and not from Republicans, but by disaffected Democrats who know her best and clearly believe she’d be a train wreck for taxpayers if elected,” Kramer said. “It’s easy to make false and baseless accusations. Let’s see any proof that our campaign had anything to do with this — because there is none!”

The cost of Thanksgiving turkey has spiked by 50 percent this year due to inflation and an avian flu outbreak, as the cost of the average the holiday meal rises by 12 percent. Last year, Americans forked over an average of $53.31 on a holiday dinner for ten, but rampant inflation has this year's estimated cost set for $67.78. While the increase comes as the price of stuffing, gravy, green beans, pumpkin pie and all the usual Thanksgiving treats soar, the biggest jump comes in the cost of the turkey.

President Joe Biden's approval rating remains deep underwater in Iowa, where only 20 percent of people believe the country is headed in the right direction, according to a new poll. With only 18 days until Democrats have to defend control of the House and the Senate, it spells more bad news for Biden in a state with several crucial races. The Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll found that 61 percent of Iowa adults said they disapproved of Biden's presidency, while 35 percent approve.

On Morning Joe, liberal Fordham prof Christina Greer Greer tried to cast aspersions on those making crime a prime issue: "[W]e know that the fears of crime are just kind of latent sub-texts that have a racialized history in this country. And so, walking voters through the perception of crime and where there actually is crime." Good luck running on that, Democrats — telling voters concerned about crime that they are basically a bunch of racists who perceive crime where it might not actually exist! On Jan. 6, 2021, a large group of evangelical Christians attacked the U.S. Capitol on the understanding that they were fighting for God's president. (Not all of those who stormed the Capitol were driven by religious convictions, of course, but a large proportion were.) They were ready to kill for their president, take down a democratic system that has endured nearly 250 years, and follow Donald Trump at God's supposed direction until America became a Christian theocracy. As the House Jan. 6 committee concludes its investigation, I think the power and significance of these evangelical believers have been overlooked. Most...

I'm posting a vanity to try to get this discussion going. Congressional committee "hearings" or "investigations" are required to have a discrete legislative purpose (separation of powers). Congress is not a permanent Grand Jury or a Star Chamber. The practice of making "criminal referrals" to avoid breaching the authority of Article II (Executive) or Article III (Judicial) co-equal branches is not one of the "Legislative powers herein granted" when we created Congress. In fact, Congress is FORBIDDEN from Bills of Attainder against individuals for the exact reason that Congress is NOT an Executive or a Judicial body. It appears that...

A Florida man who robbed a bank while armed with a machete was sentenced to federal prison. Herve Fils Viaud, 31, was sentenced today by United States District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas to 78 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for robbing TD Bank in Delray Beach, Florida. On February 1, 2022, Viaud walked into a TD Bank wielding a machete. Viaud threatened to hurt several bank employees with the machete unless he was given money. Fearing for their lives, the employees gave Viaud approximately $1,234. A bank customer called 911 and reported...

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol released its full subpoena to former President Trump, detailing 19 areas of inquiry it wishes to discuss with the former president and asking him to appear for a deposition on Nov. 14. “As demonstrated in our hearings, we have assembled overwhelming evidence, including from dozens of your former appointees and staff, that you personally orchestrated and oversaw a multi-part effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power,” Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) wrote in the letter...

Police in North Las Vegas shot and killed a man in a Michael Myers mask over the weekend after he allegedly continued to pull a gun on innocents in a convenience store. Michael Myers is a fictional killer in David Gordon Green’s trilogy of Halloween films. Local 12 reports that the masked man, Christopher Earl Smith, allegedly pointed a gun at customers in a convenience store and then walked toward five innocents in a park. The New York Post notes that police intervened as Smith approached the individuals in the park. Officer Anthony Malear ordered Smith to put his hands...
