Explanation: A now famous picture from the Hubble Space Telescope featured these star forming columns of cold gas and dust light-years long inside M16, the Eagle Nebula, dubbed the Pillars of Creation. This James Webb Space Telescope NIRCam image expands Hubble's exploration of that region in greater detail and depth inside the iconic stellar nursery. Particularly stunning in Webb's near infrared view is the telltale reddish emission from knots of material undergoing gravitational collapse to form stars within the natal clouds. The Eagle Nebula is some 6,500 light-years distant. The larger bright emission nebula is itself an easy target for...

The Senate has voted to ratify a global climate treaty that will phase down the use and production of hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, the climate-warming chemicals widely used in air conditioning and refrigeration. The Senate voted 69-27 on Wednesday to move forward the 2016 Kigali Amendment, an amendment to the 1987 Montreal Protocol climate treaty that dramatically curbs the use of HFCs, which are thousands of times more potent than carbon dioxide at heating up the Earth. Forty-eight Democrats and 21 Republicans voted in favor; four members of the Senate did not vote. “This is a win-win in our fight against...

Ukraine’s defense minister is brushing off House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) recent comments that Republicans in the lower chamber will not write a “blank check” to Ukraine, chalking them up as campaign tactics. “Political statements from the so-called opposition right now in different countries just means that they continue their election campaigns, and I know they have to say something for their electorate trying to criticize the authorities of the moment,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov told Politico in an interview.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's vaccine advisory committee has recommended that the COVID-19 vaccine be added to the childhood immunization schedule, a list that many states use as a guideline when crafting vaccination requirements for schools and day care. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted unanimously Thursday to include the COVID-19 vaccine on the 2022 Child & Adolescent Immunization Schedule, which is seen as a recommendation for parents and health providers on when certain vaccines should be administered. The schedule does not dictate what vaccinations are required for school entry, as only states can decide that, but...

Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele warned his party against legitimizing some Trump-aligned figures as political leaders, calling them “fleas” and “blood-sucking ticks” whom potential House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., would have to “lay down with.”

Meeting federal emissions goals may require federal agencies to acquire about 30,000 emissions-free vehicles per year and about 25 times the current number of charging ports, according to the Government Accountability Office (GAO). The Biden administration in December issued an executive order mandating all new federal vehicle acquisitions be emissions-free by 2035, with the requirement applying to all light-duty vehicle acquisitions by 2027. The order covers about 380,000 vehicles, including about 260,000 light-duty vehicles, according to the GAO report.

“‘. . . so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life’” (John 5:23–24). The Father’s purpose in entrusting all judgment to Jesus is “so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father.” It is only fitting that those equal in nature (vv....

Amid concerns that a new Congress could take a more skeptical view of aid to Ukraine, lawmakers from both parties are looking to lock in billions of dollars in military assistance to Kyiv before newly elected members are sworn in in January, according to a lawmaker and congressional staffers. Today, I was impressed to speak to those who are emotionally and intellectually bending beneath a burden too heavy to bear. The promises of God do not seem to be working for you or your family. You have tried to please God; you pray; you truly love him, but you are right now at the end of your strength and endurance. Your trials increase as you hold on to your faith. It seems to you that God is silent toward you. Beloved, you are not alone. Multitudes of godly people are suffering in like manner, and Satan whispers, “God’s Word...

McCarthy told Punchbowl News earlier this week that House Republicans will not write “a blank check” to Ukraine if they take control of the lower chamber next year. “I think people are gonna be sitting in a recession and they’re not going...

The US has told OPEC that a proposed cap on Russian oil prices won't later be repurposed to also target the cartel, a Treasury official told Reuters. The official also said that the price cap plan isn't the beginning of a buyers' cartel that's meant to counter OPEC's sway over oil markets. The US reassurances could help remedy increasingly strained relations between the US and de facto OPEC leaders Saudi Arabia. Earlier this month, OPEC and allies non-member allies like Russia slashed its oil output quota by 2 million barrels a day despite pleas from Washington to boost production. The...
