I was watching John Kennedy grill a bureaucrat about the billions in budget increase he'd requested and Kennedy asks him about the $5 bill that the Dept. of Commerce included in the National Survey of Children's Health. I received mine in June but never opened it, intending to mock it here as a waste of public resources. Frankly, it almost got shredded. I finally opened it just prior to starting this post: $5 as depicted below.

[Catholic Caucus] PopeWatch: No ChurchThe best insights into what the Pope thinks, and what terrifying journeys into his brain these tend to be, is when he is giving one of his airplane interviews or speaking to Jesuits. Phil Lawler looks at the latest brain droppings of the Pope to some Canadian Jesuits:Here, I believe, is the ultimate expression of the “hermeneutic of rupture.” In his July 29 conversation with Jesuits in Canada, Pope Francis seems to have said that the Roman Catholic Church ceased to exist!Read his words and check my logic. The Pope said that “the Church is either...

Francis: The First Anti-Pope in Centuries? It is well known that orthodox minded Catholics have felt considerable consternation with Jorge Mario Bergoglio, known to the world as Pope Francis. On issue after issue, year after year, Catholics have had no shortage of occasions to feel perplexed, alarmed, and alienated – justifiably so. There’s been his positioning on the issue of remarriage and Holy Communion, for example, or his punitive attacks on the traditional liturgy. Even if non-Catholics may be indifferent to those matters, anyone of good will would also be troubled by his oblivious stance vis-à-vis Islam, his kowtowing to the...

The city of New York is fighting to find solutions to the ongoing homelessness crisis. Almost 50,000 people are said to be occupying New York shelters right now. Besides inflation and abnormally high rental prices, another barrier to housing is criminal records factoring into applications. As the New York Times reports, a piece of legislation seeks to end that practice that has abnormally affected people of color. The Fair Chance For Housing Act would ban landlords and brokers from seeking a person’s criminal records and stop them from denying housing because of prior arrests or convictions. In New York alone,...
