More New York City families are foregoing traditional public schools in favor of homeschooling, state data analyzed by The Post shows. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Big Apple homeschool students has more than doubled, to roughly 12,900 kids, according to the data. The surge in city parents opting to homeschool coincides with a nationwide trend sparked by the pandemic — one that has continued even with the return of in-person classes. “I like being engaged and involved in their lives,” said Julie Kvyatkovsky, a single mom of 9 year old twin daughters in Brooklyn, who...

The U.S. is running out of time to prevent a cataclysmic war in the Western Pacific. While the world has been focused on Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine, Xi Jinping appears to be preparing for an even more consequential onslaught against Taiwan. Mr. Xi’s China is fueled by a dangerous mix of strength and weakness: Faced with profound economic, demographic and strategic problems, it will be tempted to use its burgeoning military power to transform the existing order while it still has the opportunity. This peaking-power syndrome—the tendency for rising states to become more aggressive as they become more fearful of...

The left’s obsession with centering everything on race and sex has reached a new and despicable low with an upcoming movie called “The Woman King.”The “historical epic film” centers around the real African kingdom of Dahomey, which existed during the Scramble for Africa in the age of empires, around 1800 to 1904.Viola Davis plays General Nanisca, leader of an all-female band of warriors known as the Dahomey Amazons, as she struggles against European attempts to conquer the kingdom....The weirdest thing about this controversy surrounding the trailer is that the story of Dahomey is a genuinely interesting historical narrative....Maybe I’m all...

The Biden administration has again declared a national ‘public health emergency’ — this time, over monkeypox. As of August 2nd, there have been no monkeypox deaths in the United States and fewer than ten deaths reported worldwide. President Biden’s health secretary Xavier Becerra declared the monkeypox outbreak a ‘national health emergency,’ a once-rare designation that has become a political weapon for elected leaders who want to obviate the law or implement unconstitutional measures. Last week, the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency over the outbreak. The Biden administration’s declaration of the ‘national health emergency’ will authorize federal agencies...

[Catholic Caucus] The Death of a ParishSaint Francis de Sales in Benedict, MarylandAs of September 21st Catholics in the Archdiocese of Washington who prefer the traditional Latin Mass (TLM) will be herded like prisoners of war into three officially designated camps, like native Americans onto a federal reservation. This while Pope Francis parades through Canada on an official apology tour for the Church’s role in doing the very same thing to the children of indigenous peoples in the residential schools. One of these is a crime and the other a necessity for the spiritual good of those who just don’t...

Brittney Griner was found guilty of drug charges in a Russian court on Thursday. Shortly after being found guilty, she was sentenced to nine years in Russian prison. The prosecution was reportedly seeking nine and a half years. Griner is being used as a political pawn. Now, with the sentencing, it forces the hand of President Joe Biden to do something sooner rather than later and get the American citizen out of Russian prison. The American justice system is far from perfect, but this outrageous sentencing should put things into perspective for everyone, including LeBron James, about how unjust other...

Four current and former Louisville Police officers have been charged by the FBI in connection with the deadly raid at Breonna Taylor’s apartment in 2020. Ex-LPMD detectives Joshua Jaynes, 40, and Brett Hankison, 46 are all facing federal civil rights charges for their actions in the Taylor investigation. Current LMPD Sergeant Kyle Meany, 45, and detective Kelly Hanna Goodlett are facing the same charges. Jaynes was fired by the Louisville Metro Police in January 2021, in Kentucky, for adding a false statement to his sworn affidavit for the 'no knock' warrant to search Taylor's apartment over her drug dealer ex-boyfriend....

I want to put before you some thoughts on the meaning of the crucifix (Lat., “A crucified is my beloved”). I have in mind the standard crucifix found in a parish church, with a white unblemished corpus, depicting Our Lord still alive, and “INRI” written above. Like all Christians, I love a plain cross of wood, which invites us to embrace it. But the crucifix seems an even superior object of devotion. Can we say why? There are two traditional reasons. First, the crucifix – more than a plain cross -resembles the serpent on a stake: “as Moses lifted up...

I am not a doctor of theology, but I never realized Whoopi Goldberg was a theology expert. Per Jewish tradition, I pray to God three times a day. I get the feeling the big guy upstairs does listen to my appeals despite that his answers aren’t always yes. I learned yesterday that when Whoopi prays to God, she gets an answer, not via a feeling in her heart, but a real direct answer…God told Whoopi that he supports Abortion. Whaddaya know? The guest on The View was former castmate Elizabeth Hasselbeck: who is pro-lifePer Fox News:The clash began after the conservative...

A jury in Austin ordered Alex Jones to pay $4.1 million to the parents who lost children in the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School who sued the InfoWars host for defamation. Jones was sued by the parents after the radio host and conspiracy theorist said the Sandy Hook massacre, the deadliest mass shooting at a U.S. elementary school, was “completely fake” and a “giant hoax” during a 2017 radio show. Opening statements and testimony for the trial began last week, and the jury broke for deliberations on Wednesday.

My kid had rear Tire blow up on his 96 ranger xlt in middle of nowhere, and in another state far from me today. The killing of the al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in Kabul by a US drone strike on July 31 raises some crucial questions. It appears the ruling Taliban were aware of, and gave their blessing to, al-Zawahiri staying in one of the residential areas in Kabul. But did someone in their hierarchy turn him in to the US – and if so, who and why? It’s worth thinking about what this means for the relationship between the two groups: one an ailing global terror network, the other an insurgent group trying to gain international legitimacy for its takeover in Afghanistan. A...

The post-COVID recovery will be change not restoration. We’ll be forced to rebuild where we are.Years ago, I moved from a somewhat larger small town (pop. 30,000) in upstate New York to a smaller small town (pop. 2,500) 15 miles east in order to establish a little homestead with gardens, fruit trees, and chickens. I found this three-acre property literally on the edge of town, a five-minute walk to the center of Main Street. If you’ve been following this column on urban design the past year, you know I’ve said we’re entering an era of stark economic contraction that will...

Thursday’s CBS Mornings followed yet another segment extolling Kansas voters for defeating a pro-life referendum by similarly cheerleading leftist spending in Congress through the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” and fretting that Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) “could torpedo the whole plan.” “Well, a bill covering other big elements in the Biden agenda could be close to getting a vote after months of negotiations. But Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema has not promised her support, and that could torpedo the whole plan,” fretted CBS Saturday Morning co-host Michelle Miller. Usually obsessed with January 6, congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane lamented that Sinema hasn’t committed...

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz’s campaign got a boost on Wednesday when he received the endorsement of the Pennsylvania State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police. During a campaign swing through Erie, Oz dropped in on the PA FOP’s conference and accepted the endorsement of a group that represents 40,000 active and retired members. In a statement released by his campaign, Oz said he was honored to have the FOP’s endorsement. “We owe each and every officer who bravely serves our deepest thanks,” said Oz. “Throughout my career as a cardiothoracic surgeon, I operated on brave police officers who...
