Brittney Griner was found guilty of drug charges in a Russian court on Thursday. Shortly after being found guilty, she was sentenced to nine years in Russian prison. The prosecution was reportedly seeking nine and a half years.
Griner is being used as a political pawn. Now, with the sentencing, it forces the hand of President Joe Biden to do something sooner rather than later and get the American citizen out of Russian prison.
The American justice system is far from perfect, but this outrageous sentencing should put things into perspective for everyone, including LeBron James, about how unjust other justice systems around the world operate.
America is attempting to trade the Merchant of Death Viktor Bout for the American basketball star, but it’s unclear if that’s going to happen or not.
Immediately after the sentencing, Biden released a statement saying “Russia is wrongfully detaining” Griner.

I am a 12-stepper. I know how addicts think. She thought she could smuggle a little THC into Russia by concealing it in vape pens or cartidges. Now, that’s clever.... but I’d have thought of the downside. I know a little about Russia and I’ve heard about it’s judicial system. It’s nothing like America. You don’t really have rights. Once the system has focused on you, you are very likely to go down. And Russian prisons are no f***ing fun.
So she knew damned well what she was doing, but didn’t do her homework on the downsides if she got caught.
She baked the fish, now she has to eat a plate.
I’m sure America will get her out somehow, but she might do a year or two first.

She broke their laws. She knew their drug laws, as everyone who goes there is told about them. She lost. Do the time. Maybe she’ll develop a more favorable opinion of the United States during her time in prison, hopefully in deep reflection.
What wouldn’t she do to hear the National Anthem right about now.
I have a feeling that Russia is not too keep about lesbian relationships in prison, either.

It amazes me that whomever wrote this doesn’t understand Joe Biden has already done what he can do. He had Blinken talk with Lavrov to make a deal and Russia didn’t like the deal at this point.
Blinken then tried to get the Germans to turn over a Russian prisoner as part of the deal the Russians requested and so far the Germans said no.
Goofy fool Griner is going to have to be patient and she could ask Blinken to quit insulting the people who he wants to deal with. It isn’t helpful under the circumstances.
Maybe a couple yeaars in the prison will mellow Griner out and make her more appreciative.
