Although the potential drugs are still years away from being tested in cancer patients, a study published recently in the journal Leukemia underscores their potential and the innovative methods that led to...

Although Russia has reportedly invested $55 billion into its pipeline deal with China, natural gas imports through the pipeline have only totaled $3.81 billion since December 2019, according to China customs data as of June, accessed through Wind Information. The pace of Chinese purchases picked up in the first half of this year — nearly tripling from a year ago to $1.66 billion, the data showed.

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A 27-year-old man charged last month with murder for killing his grandfather is now accused of attacking a corrections officer and three inmates in the Kitsap County Jail... ...While securing Lippard-Taste, an officer reported that he “talked about getting respect and that he is a murderer,” and said those attacked were lucky they didn’t get killed, court documents said. When questioned how he would kill them, investigators wrote that Lippard-Taste said: “Check my cell. There’s a sharpened spoon in my cell. I could stab you through your eye.” Officers then searched Lippard-Taste’s cell and found a...

Researchers are investigating a drug used to treat neuromuscular weakness as a potential treatment for botulism. Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) are a family of bacterial poisons—the most poisonous substances known—responsible for the clinical disease known as botulism. These neurotoxins act within nerve terminals to destroy proteins necessary for muscle contraction, causing paralysis that develops into respiratory arrest and can lead to death. Currently, the only specific treatment for botulism is early administration with antitoxin. However, antitoxin is only effective if administered before prior botulism symptoms are evident. Once symptoms emerge, three out of four patients require long-term artificial ventilation for survival....

Well, I made it. I am 100 years old today. I wake up every morning grateful to be alive. Reaching my own personal centennial is cause for a bit of reflection on my first century — and on what the next century will bring for the people and country I love. To be honest, I’m a bit worried that I may be in better shape than our democracy is. I was deeply troubled by the attack on Congress on Jan. 6, 2021 — by supporters of former President Donald Trump attempting to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. Those concerns...

BERLIN/FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Russia delivered less gas to Europe on Wednesday in a further escalation of an energy stand-off between Moscow and the European Union that will make it harder, and costlier, for the bloc to fill up storage ahead of the winter heating season. The cut in supplies, flagged by Gazprom earlier this week, has reduced the capacity of Nord Stream 1 pipeline - the major delivery route to Europe for Russian gas - to a mere fifth of its total capacity. On Wednesday, physical flows via Nord Stream 1 tumbled to 14.4 million kilowatt hours per hour (kWh/h)...

The New York Times economics columnist Paul Krugman went from admitting he completely botched his “transitory” inflation calls to gaslighting readers over the possibility of a recession. Krugman took to Twitter to promote his new column that aligns with the White House’s latest strategy to cast confusion over the meaning of a recession just before the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) is set to release dreaded second-quarter GDP numbers tomorrow. The economy contracted an unnerving 1.6 percent in the first quarter. “Ignore the two-quarter rule,” Krugman bleated. “We might have a recession, but we aren't in one now.”. That’s despite...

An intelligence analyst behind the FBI’s botched Trump-Russia collusion probe is now accused of using the bureau’s authority to discredit reports about Hunter Biden’s criminal activity months before the 2020 presidential election. Meet Brian Auten. The FBI analyst is hardly a household name, but whistleblowers who contacted the office of GOP senator Chuck Grassley say he was behind an August 2020 report that FBI officials used as part of a "scheme…to undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation."

Putin's blundering forces have shot down their own helicopter in Ukraine after it mistakenly started firing at its own troops. The Ka-52 'Alligator' helicopter, which costs an estimated £12million, was gunned down in Kherson, Ukraine's General Staff revealed. The military bosses joked it was a 'gesture of goodwill' from the invading forces. They reported that three of the helicopters were flown over the occupied region and started to shoot at the Russian troops stationed below. They returned fire and shot down one of the choppers in what is just the latest embarrassing blow for Putin's men. Video of the wreck...

Not since the gruesome heyday of HIV/Aids has a virus been such a threat to the lives of men who have sex with men. As monkeypox rips through queer communities, particularly in London, the cruel legacy of that pandemic casts an unnerving shadow. Conversations in LGBTQ+ spaces – from Highgate men’s pond in the capital to bars and clubs in urban centres – turn anxiously to this new threat. Those who have had the virus share their experiences: some mild symptoms, others painful and miserable. WhatsApp groups ping with pictures of gay and bisexual men proudly displaying plaster-covered upper arms...

HARRISON's LANDING, Tuesday, July 22, 1862. Father O'HAGAN, of the Excelsior (Sickles) Brigade, who was taken prisoner by the rebels on the 30th of June, at Fair Oaks, has been unconditionally released, and joined his regiment in good health at this place, on Sunday morning last. He was confined a Richmond by order of the rebel Secretary of War one night, when through the intercession of the Catholic Bishop of that city, he was released and permitted to retire to the residence of his friend, the Bishop, who, aside from being a warm Secessionist, was imbued with a spirit of...

Many people saw this and wondered if Biden was juiced up on Adderall. I dunno, but he looks like he’s on something. Who doesn’t blink for 17-seconds straight? That’s weird. And why was he so hyped-up and angry, too? We also have the 20 seconds of a pre-recorded speech Joe Biden gave yesterday and things go downhill even more! He’s so angry about January 6th, which happened like two years ago, where the only person who died was an unarmed Trump supporter, but he doesn’t care one single bit about the left-wing “Summer of Love” where BLM and Antifa burned...

Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz said Tuesday he supports the right to same-sex marriage, making the statement as the Senate considers a vote that could codify that right into law. Several GOP lawmakers have stated support for “The Respect for Marriage Act” would codify at the federal level same-sex marriage and interracial marriage, both of which were legalized through Supreme Court decisions in 2005 and 1967, respectively, that remain the law of the land. “Dr. Mehmet Oz believes that same-sex couples should have the same freedom to get married as straight couples,” campaign spokesperson Brittany Yanick said in response to...

First came “Latinx.” Now comes “Filipinx,” the woke left’s latest attempt to gender-neutralize an entire ethnicity. And just like “Latinx,” the new term is proving to be massively unpopular among the very people it refers to — in this case, Filipinos and Filipino-Americans. San Diego Comic-Con is being widely ridiculed for using “Filipinx” in the title of its recent panel discussion “Filipinx Voices in Pop Culture,” which sought to explore “Filipinx influence behind your favorite media.” The panel discussion, which took place Thursday at the Omni Hotel in San Diego, offered the following description: “Filipinx/Filipinx-American influences can be found in...

The Department of Justice is investigating then-President Donald Trump’s actions leading up to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol as part of its criminal probe of efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, an administration official familiar with the investigation said. The inquiry is related to the department's broader probe of efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and not a criminal investigation of Trump himself, the official said. The Washington Post first reported that the Justice Department was investigating Trump's actions leading up to Jan. 6, citing four people familiar with the matter, whom it did not...

“Another of the disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.’ But Jesus said to him, ‘Follow Me, and allow the dead to bury their own dead’” (Matthew 8:21–22). This man, perhaps a hanger-on who had followed Jesus around the countryside for a while, makes what seems at first to be a reasonable statement. His seeking permission to go and bury his father, however, did not mean his parent was already dead. It was and is a common Middle Eastern figure of speech referring to a child’s (mainly a son’s) responsibility to help with...
