It is expected – unless the vote fraud is even worse than usual this time – that the Republicans will win back both the US House and the US Senate in November 2022. This is not certain, and nobody should count their chickens before they’re hatched, though every poll points to it. Even so, it’s not too soon to talk about what the next GOP Congress needs to do. And this time, some of the absolute musts are unusual. First, a few ground rules: 1. Republican legislators have a tendency to say “if we don’t hold the executive branch, there’s...

On April 18, 1521, Martin Luther was on trial and said “Here I stand, I can do no other, God help me”. At the risk of his life, he was standing for the truth of Ephesians 2:8-9, that we are saved by God’s grace alone and not by our good works. What would Luther say if he could see today's Protestant churches? I believe he would cry out against “grace abuse.” Grace abuse says “Because we are saved by grace alone, we can live like the devil.” Luther would say that nothing could be further from the truth. Luther would...

Tiny turtles are undoubtedly adorable creatures, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning people to steer clear of giving them a cuddle and a kiss following a salmonella outbreak. The agency said 15 people have been infected with salmonella with five hospitalized, though no deaths have been reported yet, according to an investigation notice. People can get salmonella by touching a turtle or something in its environment and then touching their mouth or handling food, regardless of the animal’s size, the CDC said.

If you’re surprised that the most outspoken Christians on social media for “justice” are not rejoicing over the most important Supreme Court ruling in our lifetime — you shouldn’t be. If you’re surprised that many woke “Christians” are angry that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — you shouldn’t be. You shouldn’t be surprised many woke “Christians” support abortion. As a pro-life advocate and a critic of woke ideology within the Church — I’ve been warning about Woke Christians’ implicit support for abortion for many years. Three years ago, I said: “One of the biggest indictments against the social...

Taiwan controls most of the world's chip manufacturing capacity, and that worries US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. Raimondo believes the US would go into a "deep and immediate recession" and face great security risks if it lost access to the island nation's chips The Commerce Secretary made the warning in a Wednesday interview with CNBC as part of her plea for Congress to aid a major US semiconductor manufacturing expansion by passing the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Act, which would unlock $52 billion in subsidies for new plants and research efforts. "If you allow yourself to think...

Attorney General Bridget Hill notified Gov. Mark Gordon on Thursday that Wyoming’s trigger abortion ban “would be fully authorized” under the U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade last month. That clears the way for Gordon to enact the ban. It is unknown when he will do so. “I have received the Attorney General’s analysis,” Gordon said in an emailed statement late Thursday afternoon. “I will give it prompt attention, review it overnight, and consult with the Attorney General before proceeding.” After Roe’s reversal, there was much speculation about when Wyoming’s ban would actually take effect. Hill’s report...

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Canadian abortion advocates and activists have not stopped worrying about what's next. "It's like a horror show. We're all going through the shock and trying to just grapple with what the consequences will be," said Joyce Arthur, Executive Director of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada. Arthur, whose work focuses on protecting legal abortion rights and access to services, says abortion clinics haven't started booking appointments yet from Americans but have received increased inquiries about if they'd have the capacity to make room for them. Kemlin Nembhard,...

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed a bill Thursday to fund abortion travel assistance. As a result, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt sued the city. Jones was joined by several aldermen and advocates in signing a bill to create the reproductive equity fund in response to Missouri’s ban on abortions. “Abortion bans hurt the young girls who have to cross state lines to get abortion care because their state no longer makes an exception for rape or assault,” said Jones. After the bill was signed, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt immediately filed a lawsuit to block the...

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Marilyn Mosby, a high-profile prosecutor who aligned herself with criminal justice reformers but ended up with legal problems of her own, has lost the Democratic primary for Baltimore state’s attorney to Ivan Bates, a defense attorney. Baltimore is heavily Democratic, and there is no Republican candidate in the race. Roya Hanna is an unaffiliated candidate who has filed to run in November’s general election. Mosby, who was a two-term incumbent, rose to national prominence in 2015 when she pursued criminal charges against six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray, a Black man who suffered...

Explanation: Beautiful spiral galaxy Messier 74 (also known as NGC 628) lies some 32 million light-years away toward the constellation Pisces. An island universe of about 100 billion stars with two prominent spiral arms, M74 has long been admired by astronomers as a perfect example of a grand-design spiral galaxy. M74's central region is brought into a stunning, sharp focus in this recently processed image using publicly available data from the James Webb Space Telescope. The colorized combination of image data sets is from two of Webb's instruments NIRcam and MIRI, operating at near- and mid-infrared wavelengths. It reveals cooler...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky judge has granted a request to block the enforcement of abortion bans amid a lawsuit. That means abortions in Kentucky continue to be legal for now. The ACLU, Planned Parenthood and EMW Clinic in Louisville filed a lawsuit after a sweeping abortion ban went into effect across the state triggered by the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The groups were granted a temporary restraining order to halt the ban last month by Jefferson County Judge Mitch Perry. Friday's ruling, also by Perry, is a temporary injunction that will keep abortions legal at...

[Catholic Caucus] Persecution in DC: One Young Catholic’s Journey in the Faith, and His (Now Eliminated) Parish Mass I attended my first Tridentine Mass at the age of thirteen (I am now twenty). My new, young pastor convinced me to come, challenging me to kneel on marble for an hour (I had to prove my physical strength—he certainly understood the psyche of the teenage boy). This experience ignited a love affair with Christ and the liturgy that revolutionized my entire life—in the faith and otherwise.I would say I had never been pious before this moment, but that would be...

President Biden made a previously unscheduled appearance Friday afternoon as part of an apparent effort by the administration to demonstrate that he remains healthy enough to lead the nation during his second day of treatment for COVID-19. Biden, 79, gave a thumbs-up as reporters shouted questions about how he was feeling — moments after emitting a phlegmy cough as White House economist Cecilia Rouse spoke. Reporters were allowed into the afternoon event in the White House-adjacent Eisenhower Executive Office Building on short notice to see Biden speak about gas prices via video feed from the second-floor White House residence

More than 880 Detroiters who applied for the city’s municipal ID program may have had their personal information exposed to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Detroit ID program was launched in 2016 to provide photo identification for city residents regardless of citizenship status. Immigration advocates say the program’s vendor sells data to credit agencies, which shares the information with ICE. The city used a company called MoCaFi to run the Detroit ID program. Christine Sauvé, a chair of Detroit’s immigration task force, says MoCaFi has a working relationship with the government. “They share data with clearinghouses that are...

Russia claimed Friday to have already destroyed four of the long-range rocket systems sent to Ukraine by the US — but Kyiv says Moscow is lying. The Russian Defense Ministry said Friday that four US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) had been destroyed in the fighting since July 5, all in the Ukrainian province of Donetsk, part of the Donbas region that has seen the heaviest fighting of the war. Russian Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov told reporters the four rocket launchers and one support vehicle had been taken out by “high precision weapons,” according to Russian state-run news outlet TASS.

The entire staff of a small North Carolina police department has suddenly resigned, citing a 'hostile' work environment created by the town’s newly elected manager. The mass exodus transpired Wednesday, and saw five cops, including the force's chief of 20 years, hand in resignation letters to the town manager and city council. The maneuver left the town of Kenly, home to about 2,000 residents, with just three part-time officers to man the waning force. Even before the resignations, the department had been short-staffed, down from a norm of eight officers to five, the cops said - one of several complaints...

Environmental protesters have glued themselves to the glass protecting Sandro Botticelli’s Primavera which is on display at an art gallery in Florence. The activists, from the climate activist group Ultima Generazione (Last Generation), said the protest was the first in “a new season of actions” targeting museums. It appeared inspired by Just Stop Oil activists in the UK who recently conducted a similar campaign of protests in art galleries. Two protesters stuck their palms to the exhibit at the Uffizi gallery beforehand, with the help of a third, unfurling a banner reading “Ultima Generazione No Gas No Carbone (Last Generation,...
