A survey from the respected, Left-leaning Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi) shows that British undergraduates have caught up with the craziness of their North American counterparts. If policymakers don’t act quickly, Britain is likely to become a substantially less free society. The Hepi report finds that 61% of British students think that “when in doubt” their university “should ensure all students are protected from discrimination rather than allow unlimited free speech”. Just 17% back the free speech position. This 61-17 slant represents a big change from the already illiberal 37-27 margin recorded in 2016. Among the other findings: The proportion...

NEW YORK, June 30 (Reuters) - Wall Street slid into the finish line of a dismal month and quarter on Thursday as a continued sell-off put a grim punctuation mark at the close of the S&P 500's worst first-half in more than half a century. All three major U.S. stock indexes were down but off session lows on the last day of the month and the second quarter, putting S&P 500 has set a course for its steepest first-half percentage drop since at least 1970. The Nasdaq was on its way to its worst-ever first-half performance, while the Dow appeared...

President Joe Biden on Thursday tried to distance himself once again from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, saying he would only meet with him as part of a larger group when he's in Jeddah next month. And, the president emphasized, the purpose of his trip was not to meet the Saudi royals - including aging King Salman - but to attend a meeting of the GCC plus 3 summit to talk oil production. Biden pushed back when asked if he would hold Saudi Arabia accountable for human rights abuses while, at the same time, push them to release more...

Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time Matthew 9:1-8 Friends, in today’s Gospel, the Lord heals a paralytic after first forgiving his sins. Jesus’ initial words to this paralyzed man are, "Your sins are forgiven." Why does God forgive our sins? Because he wants us alive, he wants us moving, he wants us in action, realizing what we can be. Jesus comes to liberate us for deeper life, to open a new future to us. Sin is a refusal to live according to God’s purposes and desires. Our obsession with past sins paralyzes us. God is opposed to this obsession with the...

Something is very wrong with the supposedly right-of-center media outlets and commentators treating the Jan. 6 committee like something other than the appalling Stalinesque show-trial that it is. In particular, the Washington Examiner and National Review both ran embarrassing, delusional op-eds about the hearings this week. The Examiner even ran an editorial declaring, “Trump proven unfit for power again.” Why is Trump “unfit for power”? Because of former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony on Tuesday. It was hailed by the corporate press as “explosive” and “damning,” featured on the front pages of the New York Times and the...

The Insufferable Arrogance of the Constantly Wrong The media, and the people who work in and around it, the Blue Checks™ of Twitter, have upped the ante over the past few years regarding how far they are willing to go to enforce various preferred narratives. Pick any major story of the past three years—e.g. Lab Leak, Jussie Smollett, Russiagate, Ukrainian Biolabs, Ivermectin, Hospitalizations From COVID v. With Covid, January 6th, ‘Transitory’ Inflation, and of course Hunter’s Laptop—and you will find absolutely hysterical narrative pushing up front followed by retractions, corrections, and outright denials as reality became undeniable. He says the public aren't buying it pointing to a recent survey where only 6% of respondents blamed Putin for high gas prices. I've transcribed some of it here: "Just think of the incidents where the propaganda was much more thorough and convincing to get the American people really riled up you know so quickly after World War Two that we had to send the kids off and many of them being killed you...

He said he initially tried to switch his flight using the airline's mobile service and website but was unable to do so. A Florida judge has temporarily blocked a ban on abortions after 15 weeks that was set to begin Friday. Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and abortion providers filed suit to stymie the law, arguing that it violated the state’s constitution. Leon County Judge John C. Cooper handed down his ruling from the bench after two days of arguments and said he would issue a written injunction. State officials are expected to fight the decision. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the 15-week abortion ban this past April, prior to the Supreme Court’s momentous reversal of Roe v. Wade last...

Your Excellency, after the psycho-pandemic, we now have the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Are we in “phase two” of one single project, or can we now consider the Covid farce to be over and concern ourselves with the increase in energy prices?...The prohibition of treatment, the discrediting of the effectiveness of drugs that have been in use for decades, the decision to hospitalize the elderly who became sick in nursing homes and the imposition of an experimental gene treatment that has been demonstrated not only to be ineffective but also harmful and often fatal – all thisconfirms for us that the pandemic...
