AUSTIN — More than a quarter of absentee ballots mailed to Dallas County election officials as of Thursday for March 1′s party primary have been rejected, according to Dallas County Election Administrator Michael Scarpello’s office. The reason those ballots were rejected was not specified, and The Dallas Morning News is seeking clarification. March 1′s primary is the first balloting the state is conducting since the controversial election law Senate Bill 1 took effect. Across the state, election officials have...

Top officials at a U.S. federal cybersecurity agency are urging a judge not to authorize at this time the release of a report that analyzes Dominion Voting Systems equipment in Georgia, arguing doing so could assist hackers trying to “undermine election security.” The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) was recently provided an unredacted copy of the report, which was prepared by J. Alex Halderman, director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society. The report discusses “potential vulnerabilities in Dominion ImageCast X ballot marking devices,” or electronic voting devices, according to the government. While CISA supports public disclosure...

The Russian military said today it caught a US submarine in its far-east waters and drove it out with 'appropriate means' after the vessel ignored a Russian request to leave, Interfax news agency has reported. The encounter came as Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden held a high-stakes phone call, as a tense world watched and worried that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could begin as soon as Wednesday. Biden warned his Kremlin counterpart that the United States 'will respond decisively and impose swift and severe costs on Russia' should it invade Ukraine.

An abnormal number of dogs in the Billings area have recently died mysteriously, possibly from overdosing on the ingredients found in Tylenol, say local investigators. There is not an evident link between the hot dog stuffed with pills and the cases of ill and sick dogs in Yellowstone County, Smith emphasized. She could only disclose so much because the investigation is active, but said the public and pet owners should be “hyper-aware.” Megan Bianco posted a picture on Facebook of what appears to be a hot dog stuffed with pills. Bianco and a co-worker found the item in the backyard...

SAN FRANCISCO - The California Supreme Court has denied a potential bid for freedom by Leslie Van Houten, a Charles Manson follower serving a life sentence for her role in the murder of a Los Angeles grocer and his wife in 1969. The high court on Wednesday refused to hear Van Houten’s appeal of a lower court ruling last December that denied her petition for a review. That petition had challenged what it deemed as denial of due process by Gov. Gavin Newsom in reversing a 2020 parole board recommendation. The petition also said Newsom had refused to provide documents...

As the inflation that the president predicted would be “only temporary” six-months ago reached a 40-year high, NBC anchor Lester Holt was chastized by Biden as “a wise guy” for bringing the issue up in a recent interview. “It’s disrespectful to throw my past words in my face, especially when the statement I made is incontrovertibly true,” Biden insisted. “Look, here’s the deal. Everything is temporary. Nothing goes on forever. The worst case of inflation in world history took place in Germany during the 1920s. That came to an end when their currency became worthless and a new Mark was...

VIDEOI have never seen a person so enamored of one word as Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly is of the word "RESOURCES." He repeats it over and over and over again as if it is some sort of mantra excuse for not being able to do a damn thing about the trucker protests in his city. As a result, the people most angry about him are not the protestors but the Ottawa liberals who want him fired for doing nothing while he keeps reciting the "resources" mantra. Here is a compilation of the many many times Sloly invokes his magic word...

“The old joke is that nuclear fusion is 30 years away and always will be,” quips Greg De Temmerman, managing director of Paris-based energy think tank Zenon Research. In fact, the joke has become so hackneyed over the decades it has been banned by editors at the Economist. “But more seriously, many things are happening right now in the field,” De Temmerman adds. Jokes aside, they are. Earlier this month, China’s Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) reactor eclipsed previous records by sustaining a high plasma temperature for minutes (1,056 seconds). It reached two milestones: a one-million-ampere current and a 1,000-second...

A new study confirms the health benefits of moderate calorie restrictions in humans—and identifies a key protein that could be harnessed to extend health in humans. Dixit started by analyzing the thymus, a gland that sits above the heart and produces T cells, a type of white blood cell and an essential part of the immune system. The thymus ages at a faster rate than other organs. By the time healthy adults reach the age of 40, said Dixit, 70% of the thymus is already fatty and nonfunctional. And as it ages, the thymus produces fewer T cells. They found...
