Unlike inflation, President Biden’s approval rating is nowhere near highs not seen in decades. A new CNN poll released Thursday finds that 58 percent disapprove of Biden’s performance in office — and 56 percent of that group say the president hasn’t accomplished anything in his first year of which they approve. Biden’s approval rating in the survey fell to 41 percent, down from 49 percent in early December and 53 percent in late April. The president’s disapproval rating, meanwhile, has spiked 7 percentage points from early December and 17 percentage points from early March. What’s more, those who dislike the...

Hillary Clinton is scheduled to speak to a gathering of top New York state Democrats next week — amid speculation that she could seek the White House again as President Joe Biden’s poll numbers continue to plunge. Clinton, who was heavily favored to win the 2016 presidential election before being upset by Donald Trump, is set to address the state Democratic Committee’s Nominating Convention on Feb. 17, a source familiar with the matter told The Post on Thursday. It’s unclear who, if anyone, Clinton will endorse during the event at the Sheraton New York Times Square hotel, which will kick...

The new tool would analyze stylistic differences in sentences to determine authorship, which researchers claim could combat disinformation. If you’ve spent any time online you’re well aware the internet is infested with bots and shit stirrers of all stripes pretending to be people they aren’t. Though bot proliferation, in particular, is difficult to measure, a 2020 report from cyber security firm Imperva found over a quarter, (37.2%) of all internet users weren’t human. That’s a lot. Mix that with everyone else operating under aliases and you start to realize that much of the modern internet, to some degree, is fake....

Thousands of unvaccinated New York City municipal workers are up against a deadline on Friday to get a COVID-19 shot or get fired, with Mayor Eric Adams apparently determined to carry out the terminations despite an outcry from union leaders. Fewer than 4,000 of the city's 370,000 workers were facing termination at the end of January as a result of the mandate, according to the mayor's office, which said it expected to have an updated number of affected city employees on Monday. Although that would represent less than 1% of the city's workforce, it would be one of the biggest...

James Webb Space Telescope Primary Mirror in Space Credit: NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center The James Webb Space Telescope is nearing completion of the first phase of the months-long process of aligning the observatory’s primary mirror using the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) instrument. The team’s challenge was twofold: confirm that NIRCam was ready to collect light from celestial objects, and then identify starlight from the same star in each of the 18 primary mirror segments. The result is an image mosaic of 18 randomly organized dots of starlight, the product of Webb’s unaligned mirror segments all reflecting light from the...

Lupercalia was an ancient pagan festival held each year in Rome on February 15. Although Valentine’s Day shares its name with a martyred Christian saint, some historians believe the holiday is actually an offshoot of Lupercalia. Unlike Valentine’s Day, however, Lupercalia was a bloody, violent and sexually charged celebration awash with animal sacrifice, random matchmaking and coupling in the hopes of warding off evil spirits and infertility. Romulus and Remus No one knows the exact origin of Lupercalia, but it has been traced back as far as the 6th century B.C. According to Roman legend, the ancient King Amulius ordered...

Economists polled by Refinitiv expected the index to improve to 67.5. “‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’” (Matthew 5:3). Poverty of spirit means recognizing how truly deficient we are apart from God. It means seeing ourselves as we really are: spiritually lost, hopeless, and helpless. Without the gospel of Jesus Christ, everyone is spiritually impoverished, regardless of his or her material accomplishments, educational achievements, or even religious knowledge and church activities. The “poor in spirit” are people who have recognized their spiritual destitution and their total inability to save themselves—their complete dependence on God. They know their only hope of salvation is to repent...
