On April 19, 2021, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski suggested in a text to Chicago’s mayor that the parents of two children recently killed in Chicago’s gang activity had “failed those kids.” Kempczinski’s text became public in November 2021, prompting widespread accusations of racism and calls for his resignation. Kempczinski confessed to his white privilege and apologized profusely for holding parents responsible for the fate of their children. Governor Jay Inslee says unvaccinated Washingtonians are domestic terrorists. It’s a ridiculous insult that shows just how simple-minded our governor is when facing anyone who doesn’t bend to his will. Are you an unvaccinated Christian, Muslim, or Jew, resistant to get the COVID vaccine? Inslee says you’re carrying “a time bomb” in your backpack. Does your doctor warn against this vaccine because of your private medical history that Inslee doesn’t understand? You’re a terrorist. No matter the context, Inslee thinks you’re as dangerous as a criminal and he has no regrets. It’s the latest divisive comment from the power-hungry governor...

While armed services often crave “gold-plated” weapon systems, Kaiser’s cheap jeep carriers showed how simple, affordable and numerous platforms well-suited to operational requirements can prove to be of greater value. The Casablanca class’ finest hour came in the Battle of Samar, when sixteen CVEs and their escorts covering the amphibious landing at Leyte Gulf single-handedly took on a Japanese battlefleet consisting of four battleships and nineteen cruisers and destroyers. In a frantic few hours, the carriers’ combined air wings and self-sacrificing destroyer escorts managed to sink three cruisers and persuade Admiral Takeo Kurita to withdraw. “Mass-production” isn’t a term one...

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Suffolk DA Rachael Rollins as the new U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts. Rachael Rollins’ confirmation as U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts could come with a political price as President Biden’s latest liability. Faster than you can say “nolle prosequi,” Sen. Ted Cruz made it clear that the Suffolk district attorney would be the GOP’s Exhibit A for “left-wing prosecutors” who look the other way while criminals get off scot-free in “Joe Biden’s America.” Vice President Kamala Harris needed to break a 50-50 tie — twice, actually — in the U.S. Senate to save Rollins, as all Republican...

CHICAGO — Former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett was convicted Thursday on charges he staged an anti-gay, racist attack on himself nearly three years ago and then lied to Chicago police about it. In the courtroom as the verdict was read, Smollett stood and faced the jury, showing no visible reaction. He and his family later left the courthouse without comment. The jury found the 39-year-old guilty on five counts of disorderly conduct — for each separate time he was charged with lying to police in the days immediately after the alleged attack. He was acquitted on a sixth count, of...

MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd declared Thursday on “MTP Daily” that former President Donald Trump and “his loyalists,” who he claimed had “hijacked and radicalized a part” of the GOP, were attempting to undermine democracy. “If it’s Thursday, President Biden tries to lead a global effort to revive democracy,” he said. Can the U.S. be a beacon for democracy abroad unless he first confronts the efforts to undermine it right here at home? We’ve said it before, and we’re going to say it again, the biggest story in American politics is and will continue to be this homegrown effort to undermine...
