The Bush campaign style is making a comeback. Democrats should be afraid. Very afraid. Among the messages emerging from Glenn Youngkin’s victory in the Virginia governor’s race last week is this: The era of angry, fire-breathing GOP candidates may be over, replaced by a campaign approach Democrats rarely seem to beat. Instead of a raging Donald Trump, Jim Jordan, or Marjorie Taylor Greene, there is the shrewd candidate with a keen eye for wedge issues, camouflaged by khakis and a calm demeanor. Think George Bush — senior and junior.

“‘“The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom”’” (Job 28:28). Being wise begins with knowing God. The fear of the Lord is the most basic idea related to wisdom and is the key to understanding it. The Book of Proverbs especially teaches us that the fear of the Lord is inextricably linked to wisdom: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Prov. 1:7). Knowledge, wisdom, instruction, and understanding are often used as synonyms in Proverbs. The link between fear of the Lord and wisdom is also evident in Proverbs 9:10: “The fear...

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on Sunday said congressional Democrats “blew the timing” on passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill and social spending package, suggesting that the timeline could have contributed to the party’s loss in Tuesday’s Virginia gubernatorial race. Kaine, who represents Virginia and previously served as governor of the Old Dominion, said Democrats on Capitol Hill should have passed the two bills in October instead of letting internal party disagreements delay the vote.

Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that former president Donald Trump was a “constant problem” for the Republican Party. Discussing the successful Virginia gubernatorial campaign of Glenn Youngkin (R), Anchor Dana Bash said, “One of the things he was able to do is keep his distance in a certain way from the former president, Donald Trump. The midterms coming up are quite different. Trump is already very involved, planning on hitting the campaign trail. Are you worried that that will hurt Republicans

American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten, whose organization advocated for mask mandates in pubic schools, apologized after she was caught with her mask down at the 2021 SOMOS conference in Puerto Rico. Weigarten faced criticism after Adriana Aviles, a New York City parent and former City Council candidate, posted a photo of the teacher’s union boss sitting maskless on a panel with other guests, including New York City Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter. “Gotta love when school leaders @rweingarten @DOEChancellor mingle with others in a packed room with no masks,” Aviles wrote, “yet I wonder if everyone needed proof...

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) said on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that spreading the lie that the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol was a false flag operation is “un-American.” Anchor Chris Wallace said, “We’ve always argued about policy. What strikes me as was different now but not just now but in recent years is that we argue over facts. We argue over the truth. Congresswoman Cheney, there is talk now that January 6 was a false flag operation. It was a case of liberals in the deep state setting up conservatives and Trump supporters. Is there...

A senior White House adviser said the Justice Department will set the amount of compensation if it deems that paying migrants separated from their families will save taxpayers money — payments that run as much as $450,000 or more. “If the DOJ determines that it saves the taxpayers money and it rights a wrong, then they will make the determination that is necessary and I would assume if they make a determination, they’ll come up with what they think is an adequate dollar amount,” Cedric Richmond said on “Fox News Sunday.” Richmond said the Justice Department is making its decision...

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he will help Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-AK) reelection efforts, even though former President Donald Trump endorsed a challenger against her. In June, Trump announced that he would be endorsing Murkowski challenger Alaska Commissioner of Administration Kelly Tshibaka. Scott said, “I think you’d be foolish not to want and accept Donald Trump’s endorsement, but you’re going to win not because somebody endorses you, but because you win because you’re making sure inflation gets stopped, that people get a job, making sure...

At dawn this date in 1550, two sons* of Jon Arason were beheaded at Skalholt, followed by the energetic sextegenerian prelate himself — cementing Lutheranism in Iceland. As bishop of the northern diocese of Holar and one of the most powerful pols in Iceland, Arason did what he could to maintain papal authority when the Danish King Christian III began pushing Protestantism. Arason was a practical guy; remote from any prospect of aid, he was content to maintain a cordial balance between his diocese and the southern one of Skalholt. (The two sees were political rivals of long standing; Skalholt’s...

Something to keep in mind about January 6 is when the Soothsayer came to warn Caesar about the Ides of March, he wasn’t warning about a conspiracy theory. He was warning about a conspiracy in fact. Last week, Fox Nation aired “Patriot Purge,” Tucker Carlson’s three-part series on the January 6 protest in Washington, D.C. No sooner had the program been announced than the regime media went nuts. The former conservative Anne Applebaum, writing for The Atlantic, said it was a “sinister” piece of anti-American propaganda. NPR described it as an “off the rails” “conspiracy theory.” CNN said that it...
