Ten hospitals around Southern California have had ICUs at or over capacity for 25 weeks or more. Three hospitals have had full ICUs for over a year. During the earliest days of the pandemic, calls to "flatten the curve" flooded social media from all corners, as health officials and politicians asked everyone to stay home and avoid spreading COVID-19. Those calls aimed to prevent more cases of the then-novel coronavirus, but beyond that, they aimed to keep hospital systems, healthcare workers and intensive care units from becoming overburdened with too many patients.... For some hospitals, ICUs began to slowly empty...

At the start of the pandemic, researchers began testing existing antivirals in people hospitalized with severe Covid-19. But many of those trials failed to show any benefit from the antivirals. In hindsight, the choice to work in hospitals was a mistake. Scientists now know that the best time to try to block the coronavirus is in the first few days of the disease, when the virus is replicating rapidly and the immune system has not yet mounted a defense. In a trial of hospitalized patients, however, molnupiravir seemed to have no effect on the disease. In April, the companies announced...

Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) in a Friday tweet called the “live-leaker” who sent the press details about the House Democratic Caucus’s meeting while it was happening a “schmuck” and “coward.” The California Democrat said that the member who was live-leaking information to Punchbowl News reporter Jake Sherman apparently likes the narrative that the House Democratic Caucus is in disarray. ...

Biden Didn’t Get 80 Million Votes – Not even close… I was noticing some analysis done on a thread about Ohio about reapportionment and nefarious dealings done by RINO DeWine because he hates Trump, and wanted to mess Congressman Jordan out of his seat during reapportionment. Comparisons were made at the county level between 2008 and 2020 showing there was an attempt to steal Ohio, but it failed because some counties’ Donk fraudsters were prevented from carrying it out where others did.

(CNN)The federal government picked up the cost of the unprecedented expansion of jobless benefits during the pandemic, but many states are still facing a hefty tab for their share of the program -- and tough decisions about how to cover the bill. To avoid hiking taxes on employers, some states have opted to use billions of federal dollars they received in two congressional rescue packages to replenish their unemployment trust funds or repay the federal loans they took out. But others must decide whether to dip into the federal funds, hike taxes on employers or cut future benefits -- as...

There was a time not very long ago when political parties never would have entertained the idea of jamming through any massive, generational reform without some form of buy-in from the other party. Today, Democrats argue that the filibuster’s imaginary threat of “minority rule” has compelled them to use (really, abuse) the budgetary reconciliation process to jam through their entire agenda in the most expensive bill in American history. In the days before the Affordable Care Act fight forever changed the Senate, nearly every major post-war reform bill easily passed the 60-vote threshold: The Civil Rights Act got 73 votes...

The United States Postal Service projects that it will have a $160 billion loss over the coming decade, so it needs to boost revenue and cut costs. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy thinks he has the answer: offer slower service. That's right, DeJoy's blueprint for making the USPS solvent includes cutting costs by slowing mail delivery for millions of Americans coupled with hoped-for increased revenues from postage rate hikes, CBS News reported. However, critics have been quick to point out that this will likely discourage people from using the Post Office. What's happening? Starting Friday, DeJoy said, the postal service will...

'This is a hill worth dying on,' says the best-selling thriller writer Robert Harris, defending his right to create a character of any colour or gender, whatever the woke warriors may say. 'We have to have the artistic freedom to imagine and write about other sexes, other times. I think that is very important. Are you saying a woman can’t write a book in which there’s a male character? It’s ludicrous.'
