People in Vietnam’s largest city will be able to leave their homes on Friday after three months of strict coronavirus restrictions.

Vietnam will lift the lockdown in its largest city on Friday, ending nearly three months of restrictions on movement to curb a coronavirus surge.
People in Ho Chi Minh City, a metropolis of 10 million, will be able to leave their homes, restaurants can serve take-away meals and other essential businesses can open, the city said on its website on Thursday.

Very nice. Now granted, I am still going to wear a facemask, and I am now vaccinated, but this afternoon my wife and I are going out for a ride.
(Sorry I know many in the States may not understand, but it has been three months!)
Woo-hoo.
I sorta-kinda understand. I’m looking at how over the top dizzy-wild the police have gotten for one of your regional neighbors; Australia. I see Cops (in formation!!!) chasing mask free individuals for the horrible crime of not wearing a mask or walking around outside.
It’s like a bad movie, only worse, because it’s real.
I’m gettin a little nervous, because I know that sort of over kill approach appeals to those now operating the American president.
Ok just got back.
It is about halfway back to normal. There are still a (lot) of stores closed, but then again a lot are open as normal. Feels like usual, even though there are a lot of places still not open yet. Lots of restaurants not open again, yet.
Actually saw one Westerner, walking. :)
We will see whether the open status remains, although I (think) so because the number of vaccinated with at least one shot in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is pretty high now (the rest of the country still needs a lot of vaccines yet, but most of the contagion initially was in this city and surrounding cities.
So nice to be out and about, once again...
What was the deciding factor (or number(s) .. ) that prompted the release ?
Was the lockdown really necessary in the first place ?
Corona virus was INVENTED to install mail in ballots in America's Presidential election for the specific purpose of getting rid of President Trump via cheating.
You, and the entire world should know that by now.
BTW just one detail worth mentioning, because it seems significant in any discussion of Asia vs America and Covid.
EVERYONE here is wearing a mask.
Everyone. We will see if that changes, and when.
Good for you. Thailand has been in the process of opening up now for a while. As a result, my little beach town has been inundated with holiday makers from Bangkok every weekend for the past month. Gridlocked traffic and the whole 9 yards.
Rumor has it that they’re going to allow vaccinated people to come in without quarantine starting on November 1st. (Of course, I’ll believe that when I see it)
Looking forward to seeing VN open up their borders as there are plenty of places I want to see there as well.
Happy to hear that cba. Maybe the wife’s folks can get back to semi normal. I just read your post to her and she wants me to get off the puter so she can send an email.
Thanks again.
8. Lockdowns do not prevent the spread of disease. There is little to no evidence lockdowns have any impact on limiting “Covid deaths”. If you compare regions that locked down to regions that did not, you can see no pattern at all.

Yes but I think they have changed, what is going to happen from here on.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) was originally heading for a wipe-out.
Now that has changed. A lot. There is still, and will likely continue to be, a significant number of cases here. But there are a LOT of people who have been vaccinated now. It was fortunate that the early cases were primarily in Saigon, so Vietnam could concentrate their efforts on the city.
I think there will be a significant second uptick starting in two weeks, but it will be (much) less severe. It will be mostly among the recently vaccinated, and very closely represent the proportion of the population who are (still) vulnerable after being vaccinated.
So there will be relatively fewer fatalities. Not sure however what the proportion of people who get sick will be though, since the vaccine from Astra Zeneca is a large part of the vaccinations used here.
But there will be a significant decrease in the number of fatalities, I think, from here.
Probably / maybe. Hopefully.
You are quite welcome.
