Matt Zeller, an Army veteran and former CIA analyst, was distracted for a very understandable reason during a live appearance on The Week with MSNBC’s Joshua Johnson to discuss the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan: he was waiting for news about several family members and friends who had not yet been able to leave the country. As Johnson introduced him at the beginning of the segment, Zeller could be seen glancing downwards. He would later explain that he had been checking his phone for news of his loved ones.... And I’m trying to get them out,” he continued. “This is personal...

Former President Donald Trump sent a statement to his followers calling on President Joe Biden to 'resign in disgrace' on Sunday amid the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US troops. 'It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he has allowed to happen to Afghanistan, along with the tremendous surge in COVID, the Border catastrophe, the destruction of energy independence, and our crippled economy,' Trump said in an email. He continued perpetuating his claim that Biden won the presidency via election fraud, concluding the email: 'It shouldn't be a big deal, because he...

It's the unexpected topping your summer pizza has been missing.P> People have strong opinions when it comes to pizza toppings. There are the toppings that most Americans generally deem acceptable, barring dietary restrictions: pepperoni, mushrooms, extra cheese. And then there are those that a not-so-silent majority tend to relegate to the no-fly list, like pineapple. But regardless of your stance on pineapple's place on pizza, there's no denying that pizza provides an exciting opportunity to experiment with what's in season, and in the summer months, that means corn. This time of year, corn is a real heavy hitter. It's easy...

China is adapting commercial car ferries into vessels capable of carrying and launching amphibious assault craft into the water. This will fill a crucial gap in China’s capability to carry out an invasion of Taiwan. The program was turned up by a brilliant piece of open source intelligence by Conor Kennedy, who published his findings at the Jamestown Foundation’s global security website. As Kennedy notes, China’s lack of amphibious assault ships has led some to question whether threats against Taiwan should be taken seriously. He looked instead at China’s fleet of Roll-On, Roll-Off (RO-RO) ships. This type of vessel was originally developed...

At least five people have been killed at Kabul airport as hundreds of people were trying to force their way onto planes out of Afghanistan, Reuters reported Monday, citing witnesses... It was not clear whether the deaths were caused by gunshots or a stampede, Reuters reported. "The crowd was out of control," the official told Reuters by phone. "The firing was only done to defuse the chaos."...

The spokesman also called on the Taliban to ensure the complete security and health of diplomats and diplomatic facilities, given the insurgent group’s takeover of Herat. Khatibzadeh also...

What does the Afghanistan Crisis mean to YOUR LIFE? The events of the last 72 hours have been breathtaking in their speed and their seriousness. In the rapid advance of the Taliban, ten thousand Americans and hundreds of thousands of Afghan civilian allies have been trapped in the country, with no chance of escape. Women will be raped; men will be beheaded or tortured....unless we pay the Taliban billions in...

Ignore those pictures of the Afghan army, that our military senior leader geniuses spent 20 years and zillions of dollars on, disintegrating in the face of a pack of glorified mountain banditos from the Seventh Century – the real story is that, finally, America’s fighting men and women are fully aware of the urgency of accepting and validating the trans experience. And it's even better if said trans people are BIPOC. Plus differently abled.

Anti-sex abuse movement Time's Up has been accused of acting as a mouthpiece for outgoing New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and removing a post about a sexual assault survivor who was a vocal Cuomo critic on his orders. The allegations come days after attorney Roberta Kaplan resigned as chairwoman of Time's Up, telling the board that her work there was 'no longer compatible' with her job as a private lawyer. One former staffer said of the organization: 'It was patriarchy in a dress.' Workers at Times's up said they were blasted by bosses after sharing New York State Senator Alessandra...

The prevailing doom and gloom analysis of Russia tends to ignore the enormous progress the country and society have made in the past 30 years. The greatest paradox of Putin’s regime lies in the fact that despite deteriorating politics, the cultural and social tectonics went in the opposite direction from the political regime. Simply put, Russia has never in the last 100 years been as westernised and modernised as it is now. It is true that without rampant corruption and with more prudent handling of oil and gas revenues, Russians could live infinitely better than they are living now. But...

“The situation in Afghanistan may lead to DoS [Department of State] allowing Afghan SIV applicants to be moved to temporary housing locations while still being vetted for parolee status,” the document reads. “We want to have capacity to get up to several thousand immediately, and want to be prepared for potential of tens of thousands,” Pentagon Spox John Kirby tells me. “Bliss & McCoy have capability right now – what’s advantageous is w/ a bit of work, could increase in short order.” The move is a reversal from the Biden administration’s previous policy. On July 8th, President Biden told me...

They admit it wasn’t the greatest idea, but insist they did everything they could to make sure the shark was fine.

President Biden was ripped Sunday for taking a break at Camp David while Afghanistan was overrun by the Taliban — after he withdrew US troops stationed in the country for the past 20 years. “Why is Joe Biden on vacation?” GOP Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio raged on “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox. “I don’t think he’s taken one question from the press this entire weekend, so this is a frightening situation.” Other GOP lawmakers echoed the concern on social media. “Why is Joe Biden in hiding?” Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas tweeted. “He should immediately address the nation and...
