China Converts Car Ferries For Amphibious Assault

China is adapting commercial car ferries into vessels capable of carrying and launching amphibious assault craft into the water. This will fill a crucial gap in China’s capability to carry out an invasion of Taiwan.

The program was turned up by a brilliant piece of open source intelligence by Conor Kennedy, who published his findings at the Jamestown Foundation’s global security website.

As Kennedy notes, China’s lack of amphibious assault ships has led some to question whether threats against Taiwan should be taken seriously. He looked instead at China’s fleet of Roll-On, Roll-Off (RO-RO) ships. This type of vessel was originally developed by the British military during WWII, when the Dunkirk evacuation highlighted the difficulty of getting vehicles rapidly on and off ships. Now RO-RO ships are used commercially worldwide, as drive-on car ferries and as an efficient way of transporting trucks.

Suggest they also consider commercial aircraft converted into troop carriers which can either conduct airborne drops or land as a genuine commercial flight full of commandos. Taiwan won’t know until the troops are out the door or already on the runway.

People will surprise what a combatant that wants to win can jury rig.

They also have a lot of cargo ships owned by patriotic Chinese nationals too.

That’s really not understanding of the true situation. There are plenty of Chinese who would call and tell Taiwan. They will know. And little planes like that are much easier for the anti-air missiles to hit. Just like the RoRos don’t have any defensive capability against even the smallest anti-ship missile.

Maybe the Chinese are planning to walk across the strait on the wreckage from all the sunken and downed craft.

Effectiveness of the tactic is one matter. That they’re trying it is another. They intend to take Taiwan. This is one secret program uncovered. How many others exist we aren’t aware of?

Possible order of conquest:
Taiwan, Philippines, Australia/New Zealand - achieve total control of South China Sea and international shipping; South Korea, Japan, Hawaii - achieve total control of Pacific Ocean; Canada, US - achieve new home of Han Chinese, see below:

I just think that when time’s up for the Republic of China (aka Taiwan), their military and elite will fold faster than the Afghans. Being an elite under the CCP is quite different than being the Taliban’s b!tch. For one thing you have full access to the world’s biggest trade routes. For another thing, they’ve gotta be getting wary of US incompetence and corruption.

If china takes Taiwan they take the world. Remember that 90% of the worlds computer chips are made in Taiwan. Some naive people think we could easily start producing chips here.

OH more globalist BS scare tactics. The USA could ramp up chip production in months. A great opportunity waiting for USA!!!

Why invade when a blockade would be more effective and cheaper?

Blockade takes too long.

Also, if they take Taiwan, the Chinese will be in control of 80%+ of the world’s first line semiconductor production between what they own, what’s already in China and Taiwan’s resources. Look at who TSMC makes chips for, for example.

Most of the rest of the world has much older, far less capable foundries that aren’t capable of producing the current standard 7nm chips.

US companies have not cracked 7nm production. Intel had to give up and contract out to TSMC in order to get 7nm chips made. Intel’s own knowhow is stuck on 10-14nm.

US companies have not cracked 7nm production yet.

The USA can make anything and do anything. It's only a question of a will to survive.

Intel tried to force develop 7nm. They failed, despite throwing billions of dollars at it. There’s only two companies that are capable of making 7nm chips in volume - TSMC and Samsung. Intel gave up and bought in foreign tech to help them develop their own 7nm tech, but that won’t be happening until next year.

IBM just announced making a 2nm chip, but it is not anywhere near the point where the thing can be made on a mass production basis - and IBM does not have volume fabs, they sold them off. They’re currently aligned with Intel as IBM has no fabs of any significance.

I wonder if losing a war against a stone age culture, cutting and running with our tail between our legs has emboldened China? Any chance that's possible? /s

When containers stop moving supply chains collapse. The ‘stuff’ is still ‘there’ but ‘there’ is not where the people are... Laz is right on this one.
