Intel tried to force develop 7nm. They failed, despite throwing billions of dollars at it. There’s only two companies that are capable of making 7nm chips in volume - TSMC and Samsung. Intel gave up and bought in foreign tech to help them develop their own 7nm tech, but that won’t be happening until next year.
IBM just announced making a 2nm chip, but it is not anywhere near the point where the thing can be made on a mass production basis - and IBM does not have volume fabs, they sold them off. They’re currently aligned with Intel as IBM has no fabs of any significance.
It can be done PERIOD.
