Curtin University research has found tiny amounts of gold can be trapped inside pyrite, commonly known as ‘fool’s gold’, which would make it much more valuable than its name suggests. This study, published in the journal Geology in collaboration with the University of Western Australia and the China University of Geoscience, provides an in-depth analysis to better understand the mineralogical location of the trapped gold in pyrite, which may lead to more environmentally friendly gold extraction methods. Lead researcher Dr. Denis Fougerouse from Curtin’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences said this new type of “invisible” gold has not previously...

Welcome in the Club: Francis Calls Saint Paul "Rigid", "Traditionalist"“Like Paul we are called to be free from the hypocrisies of the external, to be free from a religious observance that makes us rigid and inflexible, free from ambiguous links with power [sic!], and the fear of being misunderstood and attacked,” Francis said in his Saints Peter and Paul homily (June 29).He loves to oppose form and content - as if they could be separated. Probably due to a certain senile rigidity, Francis went again on his rigidity trip insisting that Saint “Paul was freed from the religious zeal that...

A lawyer for two brothers who founded a South African Bitcoin investment firm has told the BBC they categorically deny any involvement in a "heist". Africrypt, founded by Raees and Ameer Cajee, "absconded" with Bitcoin then valued at about £2.6bn ($3.6bn), according to a complaint to police. A law firm - Hanekom Attorneys - made the complaint in April on behalf of a group of investors. But there is uncertainty over exactly how much crypto-currency is missing. On its now inactive website, Africrypt described itself as "an investment firm exclusively focused on crypto-currency and blockchain technology". The company, founded in...

Artist’s impression of a neutron star-black hole merger event. (Carl Knox/OzGrav/Swinburne University) For the first time, scientists have unambiguously confirmed the collision of a black hole and a neutron star: The fateful moment two extreme objects come together in an event so immensely powerful, its ripples across the cosmos can still be discerned a billion years later. Amazingly enough, this astronomical discovery has now been made not once, but twice, as an international collaboration of thousands of scientists reports. In a new study confirming this world-first observation, researchers detail the detection of gravitational waves resulting from two separate and distinct...

Violent anti-Semitic eruptions in Europe following the outburst of hostilities between the Gaza-based Hamas terrorists and Israel have become common and repeated occurrences. The European governments have done little to prevent the largely Muslim and some local anti-Semites from initiating violence against European Jews. It is particularly true of the German government and its leader, Angela Merkel. Chancellor Merkel invited over a million migrants into Germany, mostly Muslims from the Middle East and Africa. Their inculcated hatred for Israel and Jews has resulted in the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, Holocaust memorials, and attacks on synagogues. To assuage Jewish concerns,...
