Rutgers Professor Britney CooperRutgers University associate professor Brittney Cooper said Ma’Khia Bryant, a black teenager whom a police officer fatally shot after the 16-year-old appeared to attack another with a knife, has been “adultified” because “she was a big girl,” making the remarks during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC. Cooper discussed the fatal police-involved shooting of Bryant, who is seen on camera wielding a knife, lunging at another girl. “Look, the arguments for our movement have never been that black people have to be perfect in order for them to deserve dignity, for us to have good policing, for us...

A mighty wind is powering this flag of identity, rending asunder all hope of unity, dividing citizen against citizen, making political alliances difficult if not impossible. We are fast becoming the Disunited Identities of America. American embassies may now fly the gay rainbow flag along with the American flag. What next? A Transgender Flag? A Black Transgender “Sex Worker” Flag? A “Palestinian” Flag? A special flag for American non-binaries and asexuals? How about separate flags for every possible ethnicity that American citizens represent? Better still, a special flag for the illegal/undocumented -- they’re here, too. I happen to like the...

Health experts are concerned after a study found the Sinovac Biotech (SVA.O) Covid-19 vaccine, which has accounted for some 80% of Brazil's program, is just 16% effective after one shot. Brazil’s Covid-19 vaccination program is being put at risk by people failing to show up for their second shot, with 1.5 million people missing appointments for the follow-up dose needed to maximize protection, according to the Health Ministry. Specialists say that is particularly concerning after a recent real-world study from Chile found that the Sinovac Biotech (SVA.O) Covid-19 vaccine, which has accounted for some 80% of Brazil's program, is just...

By the standards used against Donald Trump, he certainly has. At the end of President Trump's first term, congressional Democrats impeached and tried the president, and the one and only article of impeachment was for “incitement of insurrection.” The focus of this charge was a statement made by the president telling the January 6th rally attendees that, "if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore”, the operative word there being “fight.” Of course, the assumption was the definition of the word fight can only include physical violence. The House managers must have never heard...

There’s a moral and ethical case to be made for abortion, according to two experts writing for Salon.Earlier this month, Salon published a piece examining “Why the case against abortion is weak, ethically speaking.” Nathan Nobis, an associate professor of philosophy at Morehouse College, and Jonathan Dudley, a postdoctoral fellow in molecular genetic pathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, argued that abortion supporters should employ ethics to undercut the pro-life position. They went so far as to propose a few “ethical arguments” of their own – arguments rife with fallacies. That’s because the pro-life stance is a solid one: Life is precious,...

Don't rush to buy an electric vehicle. Can we show a little forethought and practicality? Has anyone thought about it? If all cars were electric ... and were caught up in a three hour traffic jam with dead batteries! Not to mention, that there is virtually no heating in an electric vehicle. And if you get stuck on the road all night, no battery, no heating !!! You can try calling 911 to bring women and children to safety! But they can not even come to help you since all roads are blocked! And when the roads become unblocked no...

Donald Trump has accused CNN of committing a 'campaign violation' after a technical director with the network admitted on camera that they stood in opposition to his presidency. The former president spoke to Sean Hannity of Fox News, and was asked what he thought of a sting carried out by Project Veritas, a conservative watchdog group. An undercover reporter met the CNN camera operative through a dating app, and then filmed him discussing the network's approach.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s campaign team wasted no time coming after Caitlyn Jenner as she entered the recall race to take his seat. A few hours after Jenner, a Republican, announced her candidacy, Newsom sent an email blast to his donors tying the celebrity and ex-Olympian to former President Trump and asking for funds. "Earlier this morning, Caitlyn Jenner announced she was running for Governor of California as part of this Republican recall attempt," the email read. "What’s more, she is working closely with Donald Trump’s former presidential campaign manager and the person behind his small-dollar fundraising success. "We're going...

Waters has her say about Republican tactics in Congress in a Los Angeles Times op-ed piece she wrote, titled “I’m Not New to This.” Congresswoman Maxine Waters has penned an editorial in which she maintains that critics are targeting her in a “blatant distortion of the truth.” Waters attended a peaceful rally Saturday in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota to show her support in the fight against police brutality. When asked what protesters should do if there wasn’t a conviction, she responded: “We got to stay on the street. And we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational.”...

Ghislaine Maxwell faced her trial judge in person for the first time Friday as lawyers squabbled over exactly when she should be tried on sex trafficking charges that allege that she procured teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse at his posh residences. Maxwell, a British socialite and one-time girlfriend of the financier, pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking conspiracy and an additional sex trafficking charge that were added in a rewritten indictment released last month by a Manhattan federal court grand jury. The new indictment stretched the timespan of the charges from three years to a decade. Wearing...

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stopped fining illegal aliens who refused to depart the United States, the agency revealed. In an announcement on Friday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated that the agency has stopped issuing fines to illegal aliens who refused to depart the U.S. despite previously stating that they would depart. Former President Trump, with the authority of the Immigration and Nationality Act, finally started requiring the federal government in 2018 to issue fines to illegal aliens who refused to depart the U.S. after the provision failed to be enforced for more than 20 years.

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) announced Friday that he would end new permits for hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) in 2024, and would ask state regulators to explore ways to end the extraction of oil entirely in the state by 2045. Newsom’s statement confirmed earlier reports about his decision to end fracking, which contradicted his claim last September that he could not end fracking in the state through executive action alone, and would need the legislature to pass a bill:

MSNBC's Joy Reid has argued that something must have 'scared' 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant before she lunged at another woman with a knife and was shot dead by a cop. Police were called to a chaotic scene at the foster home in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, and police officer Nicholas Reardon opened fire on Ma'Khia when she launched her knife attack. The events that took place before police arrived remain uncertain, but Ma'Khia's foster mother Angela Moore has said the teen had argued with two of her former foster children over an untidy bed.

The Department of Homeland Security is reportedly laying plans to increase the number of migrants released into the U.S. as the Biden administration struggles to cope with the ongoing surge at the border. Internal DHS communications show that expanding the number of migrants in the Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program is a priority, and the department is pushing to streamline the program, Fox News reported on Friday. The ATD program releases migrants who are present in the U.S. illegally as they await status hearings, monitoring them through such measures as periodic check-ins and GPS ankle bracelets.
