In our dystopian future, everyone will be accused of racism. Even the robots. Wilbert Wilson and Tex Ortiz broke into a house in Queens, New York. The career criminals pried open the back door with a crowbar at night, and took four women and a baby hostage. Wilson had done prison time 5 times. Ortiz had been arrested 8 times before, including on charges of sex abuse and assault. But even though he had robbed people at gunpoint 2 years ago, he was back on the loose. And both of them were armed and inside the house in Queens. The...

Source: Jennifer Van Laar/RedStateDuring a Democratic debate in 2020, the candidates were asked if their health care plans would cover "undocumented immigrants." Each raised his or her hand, including front-runner Joe Biden. From that stage, the message went forth: If the Democrats win this election, then it is amnesty for all and open borders in America. The message was reinforced by repeated Democratic praise for sanctuary cities, by calls to "abolish ICE" and end deportations, by pledges to stop work on Donald Trump's wall, if not to tear it down. Message sent to Mexico, Central America and the Third World:...

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Metrorail ridership has plummeted roughly 90 percent, with an average daily ridership of 77,000 people in 2021. While Metro ridership has slowly decreased over the last decade, it did jump in 2019 to 626,000 average daily riders before it experienced its largest decline in 2020 due to the pandemic, with only 177,000 average daily riders, according to Metro data. The lack of riders brewed significant drops in revenue. WMATA’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2022 notes it may have to close up to twenty-two stations next year and cut some bus routes if additional...

The Senate smoked out House Bill 1212, the “stand your ground” bill and proceeded to pass it by a vote of 21-14 on Monday. HB 1212 was introduced by Sen. John Wiik, R-Big Stone City, who said the bill gets rid of many other use of force statutes for clarity’s sake and introduces the possibility for “reasonable force.” The bill says a person is justified in using force or deadly force so long as that person has reason to believe that it is necessary to prevent imminent harm.

There is a glimmer of hope for stronger federal laws to reduce gun violence, but many states are working actively against it. That puts everyone in every state in greater peril. Organizations working to reduce gun violence are optimistic about getting a bill requiring universal background checks on gun sales through Congress this session. The bill, reintroduced on March 2, would expand background checks to cover private sales at gun shows and over the internet. Among the leading backers of the bill, which is hardly controversial among the vast majority of Americans, are U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and U.S....

The battle between insurgent progressives in Nevada and the Harry Reid machine began building in 2016. NOT LONG AFTER Judith Whitmer won her election on Saturday to become chair of the Nevada Democratic Party, she got an email from the party’s executive director, Alana Mounce. The message from Mounce began with a note of congratulations, before getting to her main point. She was quitting. So was every other employee. And so were all the consultants. And the staff would be taking severance checks with them, thank you very much. On March 6, a coalition of progressive candidates backed by the...

(AN IMPORTANT ARTICLE) The sun rises now over the Caribbean. Sounds of waves driven by briskly. Grey above portends rain and higher danger for those inside the Darien Gap pushing on a literal do or die mission into Panama. Six days on average. More than 40 miles of snakes, bugs, deadly climbing, bandits, communist Guerrillas, robbery, rape, and casual murder. They say every pretty women who goes in comes out raped. If she survives. The hundreds we saw enter yesterday were hardly ill-prepared for a day trip in Yosemite. Some wore sandals for the rocky climbs and slippery trails. My...

Now that race and ethnic (or sexual) identities are being emphasized by media, the academy, and the entertainment industry as the most important possible thing to know about a person – a suicidal practice in in a diverse democracy – the inevitable corollary is appearing. Products are being offered to the public based on the racial, ethic, or even sexual identity group of the owners of the company that produced them. Congressional Democrats are a runaway train with a drunk-on-power conductor in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. No matter how much evidence pours in that the economy doesn't need $1.9 trillion more in debt spending, the Pelosi locomotive keeps crashing down the track toward the financial cliff. Generations will have to pay for the joyride. One of the worst features of the bill is the "blue-state bailout." Twenty-one Republican governors and one Democrat are protesting the "biased" formula for allocating some $400 billion to the states. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster complained that the bill "punishes" states that did the right thing...

I will never forget my first lesson in politics. It came early in life and involved California teachers unions. I attended public school, K-12, in Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) located in affluent South Orange County. It’s a district known for high graduation rates and sought-after schools. In first grade, I caught daily sightings of teachers protesting their grievances with supposed low pay. How could this be, especially in ritzy South Orange County? It seemed inconceivable to me. But what did I know then? I was simply a “brainwashed” daughter of Republican voters. It turns out, however, CUSD teachers are paid handsome...

“Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you” (James 4:10). God graciously bestows every spiritual blessing on the humble. Those who are scripturally humble will recognize their unworthiness when they come before God. They will be like the prophet Isaiah who, in seeing God, cursed himself: “Woe is me, for I am ruined [damned]! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts” (Isa. 6:5). Whenever you see who God really is—infinitely holy, sovereign, mighty, majestic,...
